Niall - Cambridge tutor
Information About Niall:
Personal Description:
I am 25 years old and have recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh where I studied Mathematical Physics. I have an advanced and broad understanding of maths and Physics up to degree level and enjoy conveying ideas and concepts of a scientific nature to those of all levels of experience. I will soon start my second Masters degree in Mathematics at Cambridge university with the hope of continuing on to do a PhD. I hope supplement my income during my studies thorough tutoring.
Teaching Experience:
During my degree I worked with both groups of people and individuals. I often had to solve problems on a blackboard infrount of tutorial groups and also worked together on tutorial problems with other students. On occasion we would be required to research a certain topic in great depth, assimilate the information, then give condensed talks on the subject. This would be done in a manner that, whilst not dumbing the material down, would be easily understood by non experts. I also spent a great deal of time over the years helping my friends revise for there exams.
Tutoring Approach:
I have only recently completed my Masters degree and have been in continuous education for a long time. I remember what it is like to be taught and by what methods I learnt the most effectively. I believe that the theory side of any scientific subject, particularly when mathematics is involved, is best taught in the following way: The theory should be explaining and why it is of significance, example applications of the theory should be worked through with the student and finally the student should set about solving problems set by the tutor with the new information at there disposal. This final stage would probably take the form of homework which would be marked so that potential misunderstandings can be identified and explained.
