Joseph - Oxford tutor

Information About Joseph:

Personal Description:

I have recently completed a MPhys Physics with Astrophysics course at the Univeristy of Manchester for which I attained first class honours. I have just began a DPhil at Oxford looking at applying physical science methods to biology and Medicine

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my undergraduate degree I tutored other students both formally and informally. I recently returned from Colombia where I volunteered teaching maths to children between the ages of 4-14.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found that the best way to learn in mathematics and the physical sciences is to explain the underlying concept/science then collaboratively work through problems. Engaging the student to attempt the problems themselves with hints and reaffirmation of the necessary science/mathematical methods allows them to retain more information. This is essential in these subjects where one has to constantly build upon a knowledge base. Creating an atmosphere in which the student feels at liberty to voice when they require additional help is essential in certain areas to building a good working environment.
