Information About Jill:

Personal Description:

I am a working Senior Research Assistant in Health Design and Technology research, having previously specialised in Health, Social Care and Psychology. I am friendly and professional, and can provide relaxed, good quality tutoring to a range of ages. My main area of expertise is the application of research methods, therefore I am very well suited to and experienced in, dissertations and research modules. I have supervised many dissertations at Masters and Undergraduate level, including applied research projects in a range of subject areas and literature reviews.

If you are a student of Coventry University, I have more availability as that is the location of my day job, therefore I can provide tutoring on lunchtimes or immediately after work around campus.

Teaching Experience:

I have now tutored several students through UK Tutors. I also have responsibility for students and interns through my full time job. I can provide support in research projects and modules, and can also tailor English lessons in literature evaluation and essay writing.

Tutoring Approach:

I can tutor students either individually or in groups, and my focus is on encouraging students to think for themselves and generate their own learning progress through prompts and feedback following tuition. I have completed secondary and further education myself very recently, and work for a large University. I therefore understand both the structure and nature of the work required, and the problems faced by students who need some extra help. I believe that everyone is capable of achieving their academic goals, and those who find themselves struggling more often than not simply need things explaining differently, or their questions answered more comprehensively.

I am also more than happy to put together one-off sessions in an informal lecture format to give an overview of my subject areas as well as basic IT skills, critical thinking, research skills etc. Session fees are negotiable depending on your requirements, but start at 30/hour.

My approach to tutoring sessions will depend largely on the time available and the support required. For English literature, for example, I would typically approach different sections and themes within the text each session, and create a range of exercises to check understanding and explore the topic in more depth. For dissertations, I would respond to the stage at which the student is at the beginning of our time, and work with them for as long as they might need.
