Personal Description:

Hello! Having achieved an undergraduate degree in Physics and Computer Science, in which I achieved a 2:1, for nearly two years I have taught at a private academy in Liverpool in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Reasoning, focusing on exam preparation. I completed TEFL course to teach English as a Foreign Language in January.

I enjoy tutoring because I am a I genuinely love to help people understand new ideas and give them the tools and confidence to learn new topics and pass exams. I have so much passion for my subjects that I can motivate and enthuse my students, even the ones who are struggling. I am a Mensa member and always have been a keen student myself, which helps me to inspire my students and give them insight into the learning process itself and therefore enhances their own ability to achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

From March 2009 - Dec 2011 I was a Tutor at Liverpool Academy 1nternational. I taught children from just 8 years old to 18 years in the subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and English, preparing A-Level, AS-Level and GCSE students for their exams, and also preparing children for Year 6 Key Stage 2 exams and 11+ Entrance exams into selective schools. I have personally passed 11+ entrance exams (to Wimbledon High School GDST, with a scholarship) so I am experienced in the Maths, English and Reasoning required for these tests. I have taught children with a range of achievement levels and learning styles from struggling nine year olds needing to understand number bonds, to helping B-grade GCSE pupils achieve that Maths A*.

I also taught English as a Foreign Language to both adults and teenagers, at levels from lower intermediate upwards. I have prepared students for these EFL exams: Cambridge First Certificate in English, Cambridge PET and the IELTS exams. I am most experienced with students of an intermediate level, that is, B1 and B2 on the European scale. I will also begin a professional Trinity TESOL course in January.

Privately I have tutored a diverse range of topics including coaching a primary school teacher in Maths for the QTS skills tests, an applicant for the Civil Service Fasttrack Entrance Exams, teaching Science for an Access course and the physics for a Deep Sea Diving exam (eg Pressure Laws), as I am flexible enough to apply my knowledge to many situations. I have also tutored friends in university Physics modules including Quantum Physics, Electromagnetism and Waves and Optics, and also Maths modules including Vector Differential Equations.

Tutoring Approach:

I love teaching so I am very patient, friendly and encouraging. I feel people learn best when they feel safe and reassured so I provide a welcoming teaching environment. I know that a proper understanding of the material is crucial so I break down complex ideas clearly and come up with explanations that not only helps topics to be grasped but also completely understood so that a subject can be mastered.

Everyone has their own way of learning and their own needs so I tailor my approach to suit each student to ensure a fun and accessible learning experience. I constantly research new resources, ideas and helpful new approaches to teaching. I am very familiar with a wide range of advanced study theory including accelerated learning techniques, multiple intelligence theory, Visual/Auditory/Kinaesthetic and Reflective/Pragmatic/Theoretical/Active learning styles etc so I have a very wide knowledge of practical ways to aid learning.
