Personal Description:

Teaching specialism: Drawing and Illustration

I graduated from the Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall, with a degree in Illustration in 2002. I then spent two and a half years working full- time for a greeting card company as an in-house Illustrator, as well as working on two children's picture books for Meadowside (part of the DC Thomson group) .

In 2005 I went on to gain a Masters degree in Children's Book Illustration from the
Cambridge School of Art and have illustrated several books for children including the
classic title 'The Prince and the Pauper' for Usborne Publishing.

I am currently working on 'The Owl and the Grandfather Clock' which
is my first book as Author and is due to be published by Boxer Books (London) next
year. The story was inspired by my strong interest in wildlife and conservation.
I live and work in Kincraig with my cat Melu and Labrador Lucy.

Teaching Experience:

Lecturer; Sept 2008- present

Arts residencies at various primary schools; Jan 2009- present. (Highland region)

Tutoring Approach:

Drawing is the essential foundation of the Illustrator and therefore I would initially take the student through a series of exercises that will help them to really look and learn to see differently. This direct observation and first-hand recording will enable each student to naturally develop a way of working that is totally personal to them and could ultimately lead to imaginative and inspired drawing and Illustration.

We are surrounded by such a unique environment; from the breathtaking, ever changing landscape to the wealth of wildlife- what riches right on our doorstep from which to draw inspiration!
