Matt - Warwick tutor
Information About Matt:
Personal Description:
I am a Product Development Engineer with Jaguar Land Rover. I am currently working in the electrical engineering department, focusing on the interior and exterior lighting of vehicles. Previous to this, I studied Electronic Systems Engineering at The University of Manchester in order to achieve an MEng.
I have been a competitive swimmer from a young age; I represented the City of York for a number of years, and have also swum for the University of Manchester team. I have also been a member of the University of Manchester American Football team and I am now a member of the Warwick Water Polo Club. I have been awarded the ASA/UKCC Level 1 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics, which qualifies me to teach swimming. During the University holidays I assisted a teacher in my local primary school, where I led numerous activities with different groups of children. I can play the guitar and have a great love of music. I also participated in dodgeball and indoor rock climbing during my time at University.
The prices stated are not fixed and I would be more than willing to negotiate. I will mainly be available on weeknights.
Teaching Experience:
My main source of teaching experience comes from helping out at my local primary school with a year 1 class. I also gained experience when in order to achieve the level 1 swimming teacher qualification I was responsible for a group of 4-8 children in the water for eight 30 minute sessions which I planned myself. I also worked in the Disney store as a Christmas temp.
In addition to this, during my third year at university I lead a student-volunteering project that aimed to improve the outdoor facilities of a local primary school. Whilst working with the children, I planned and ran lessons within the school and managed the other students within the group.
Tutoring Approach:
In initial meetings with the tutee I would provide them with a few example questions which I would help them through to see what level they were currently at. I would look at each tutee separately and try to decide how they prefer to be taught, I think that the main advantage of private tutoring is the ability to adapt teaching techniques to a specific personality. I would always try to make sessions interesting and fun, providing inventive ways to aid learning that a school would never be able to achieve with large classes.
