Vanessa - Bath tutor
Information About Vanessa:
Personal Description:
I am a cheerful, out-going, married mother of three and I currently work part-time at a Language School in Bath teaching English as a Foreign Language to multi-national students of all age ranges. I am very professional in my approach to my work, and I am also organised and reliable. I thoroughly enjoy my job and I am dedicated to really making a difference with each students' grasp and use of the English Language.
On a personal level, I have a happy, busy family and when I have the time my interests are health and fitness - notably swimming, pilates and interior design.
Teaching Experience:
I initially worked for many years at Oxford University Press in the Educational Division, particularly publising children's fiction and non-fiction books and books for schools. I then left Oxford to live in Muscat, Oman where I trained and taught English as a Foreign Language to the Omani special forces, NVQ Business English to young Omani women, and English to Bedoin Orphans and local school groups. My classes were arranged through the British Council overseas, for whom I worked for two years, and though an additional language centre, The National Training Institute, for whom I worked for one year.
I then left Muscat to get married and have my family and I have lived in the UK ever since. I intitally worked in London for a Business Language School, teaching visiting professionals Business English. Four years ago I moved to Bath where I joined International House teaching English as a Foreign Language on a part-time basis. This is my current position. In addition to teaching, I have also undertaken a part-time contract with Oxford University Press, and I also accept work as a copy writer and copy editor.
Tutoring Approach:
I adopt a fresh, fun and lively approach to my teaching and classes are tailored to meet individual needs. English grammar and usage is presented in a stimulating and interactive way, and students are encouraged to participate on many levels. Skills lessons make use of the students own interests and experiences and, my aims are to bring the wider world into my teaching with current affairs, general knowledge, discussions and opinions. Classes are planned to motivate each adult or child to work in a way that brings individual results, and to nurture a lasting interest in the subject area.
