Information About Rory:
Personal Description:
I'm currently a student at the University of Sheffield, studying Russian and Czech with Philosophy. I am also enthusiastic about Biology and Physics. I am well equipped and well-rounded to tutor up to GCSE level in these subjects and I'll be very happy to put in the work to help you and/or your child succeed in achieving their academic goals. As a not too distant graduate from secondary school, I understand the pressure to pass exams and the specific techniques required to do so but I also understand the value of a more rounded education, which doesn't cater solely to the exam. I am happy and confident to help with the exam side and the more general approach, particularly in Russian.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked with teachers in my previous school by attending lessons of children up to GCSE age, assisting with teaching the class and helping children with individual issues.
More often though I have worked individually with children outside of the classroom, during teaching hours, to work through upcoming exam papers, to practise the exams with them and to help the children with any particular problems they have with the work on the curriculum. Many students find it helpful to have individual attention to supplement what they learn from the teacher and I am confident to provide this.
Tutoring Approach:
I am very much interested in tayloring my tutoring to the needs of the tutee, and would therefore be happy to meet the tutee first (free of charge) in order to decide together what the tutee would like to concentrate on and to decide the best method to achieve this. After this meeting the tutee and parents would be under no obligation to continue with the tutoring, but I believe it is definitley a helpful first step for the student and tutor.
