Sarah - Brighton tutor

Information About Sarah:

Personal Description:

I am currently studying a Masters in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex, a course I have been working towards for almost a decade. Since graduating I have worked in and around education both in the UK and abroad. I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds, ages and cultures and learning from them. I would consider myself to be hard-working, overly-enthusiastic and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

I have a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching Award) and over 2 years TEFL experience. Initially, I volunteered teaching English at the Refugee Council in London. I then worked abroad, in Bolivia, where I home tutored several students in French and English.

While in Bolivia I volunteered with a local educational NGO, Charity Bolivia, and became their English teacher. I helped children to complete their homework on a daily basis and learnt how to work with young children. During my time in Bolivia I learnt to speak Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a learner-centred approach, always eager for the first session to be an opportunity for the student and tutor to get to know one another and what they hope to gain from the tutoring. According to each individual student I work to tailor the timetable and each lesson to fit them. Being aware of different learning styles I try to adapt to the student's particular style and interests as much as is possible. I also try to make every lesson fun through a creative and varied use of materials.
