Celine - Glasgow tutor

Information About Celine:

Personal Description:

I am a friendly, outgoing postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. I am a native German speaker, but have studied in Paris (2001/2002, France) and Glasgow (2002/present). My subject specialisations cover a broad range of topics; from human geography to business and management, from politics to international relations and modern history. Furthermore, being bi-national German and French, I am fluent in both languages, as well as in English.

Teaching Experience:

One year of experience, mostly with university students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am mostly adept in conversational classes when it comes to languages. If you want to freshen up your German or French, you're at the right address. I frequently talk to my family abroad and am up to date on the latest language developments. I can equally help students prepare for exams and tests (written and oral), as well as with essays, presentations, reports and other work. My work as a French/English/German translator for over 7 years has further enhanced my language experience.

In terms of Geography, Business and Politics/International Relations, I studied Geography, Politics and Economics in Paris (Distinction) and have done my undergraduate (joint honours with Business and Management, 2.1) as well as as a postgraduate in Human Geography with Merit at the University of Glasgow. I am furthermore currently very successfully doing a Master of Letters in War Studies, which requires political, organisational and strategic analysis of 19th and 20th century history. I can help anyone that is struggling with anything across the board regarding analyses of any kind, be they human, historical, geopolitical, military, social and many more, or would simply like to know more about any of them.

However, my particular strong point lies in improving anyone's writing skills, especially to an academic standard. I frequently take students from lower C's and D's to upper B's or even A's by helping them to understand, learn and apply the essentials of structuring written work. This does not require an in-depth knowledge of any particular subject, within which the respective work is to be submitted (although I do pick up on inconsistencies in the content), as it aims at heightening awareness of the basic building blocks of a good report/essay/dissertation, which form the framework within which a solid analysis of any topic can take place.

I am a firm believer in 'learning by doing', getting students of all ages to gain pride and satisfaction from their work. Hence, I put great emphasis on not just making people aware of the different approaches to any given problem/topic/question, but actively teach them how to go about solving them. This has proved to be very successful.
