Debra - Kilburn tutor
Information About Debra:
Personal Description:
I have been drawing and painting for over 30 years, having studied art at University, and then continued to create and experiment with different mediums and complete further studies to develop my skills. I have also completed many portrait commissions as well as public mosaic projects. Recently I spent time in Italy on an Arts Residency which culminated in an exhibition.
During this process of developing my own skills, I have become passionate about teaching my love of art to others. I also learnt to teach EFL and have experience teaching in classes as well as one to one tuition for adults and children.
Currently, I am teaching art to Adults in Adult FE Colleges, but have also run many workshops for children of all ages and experience (after school clubs, summer schemes, as well as private tuition) I enjoy the mixture of ages that I teach so that it keeps me fresh and full of ideas. With adult teaching, I am always seeking ways how to simplify teaching methodology, and with children to keep it fun and exciting and relevant to their own interests.

Tutoring Approach:
Intially, we discuss some important learning goals, and find out what your expectations are, whether it be to take up a new hobby or enable your child to get through exams.
Lessons will involve practical hands on exercises, as well as demonstrations by myself (art), useful handouts with overviews of the lesson and some homework for the next class (ie keeping up a sketchbook with specific tasks). I can also use art/craft projects to develop(non-native) children's English skills.
Art lessons take place at my studio in Mill Hill, which is a perfect environment rather than your or my dining table! It is well equipped with easels, sink, light, books and resources. There is a communal kitchen, sink and fridge.
Materials will be provided by the learner, however, I will be able to suggest what to purchase, and bring materials to experiement with if they are not readily available.
Most importantly, lessons will be tailored to your personal needs, or your childs. This is specifically important as you have chosen to have private tutoring - the time will be for you and will do my best to ensure that your goals are met.
