John - Leeds tutor

Information About John:

Personal Description:

I am John, a (male) private tutor with a degree in mathematics and many years of experience of providing excellent tuition services. I provide students with lessons tailored to their individual learning styles and to suit their specific needs, whether that be a thorough understanding of background knowledge, help with subject areas and topics they find particularly difficult, or last-minute exam tips. I will discuss with each student their personal learning goals and preferred approach, and adapt my teaching to suit, thus ensuring that each student gets quality teaching focused on their particular requirements and preferences.
I am passionate about mathematics. I love to teach and I do so with energy and enthusiasm - we work hard in lessons, but we have fun as well. I have also been trained in counselling skills, so students can be confident of an understanding and sympathetic teacher.

I am conversant with the syllabuses of all the major exam boards
I teach at all levels, from Primary to A-level to first-year degree or adult numeracy. All are welcome.

I prefer to teach in the dedicated area in my own home as we can then be sure of a quiet and comfortable working environment, with a wealth of resources readily to hand.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for over 10 years, and have coached many students of all ages, through exams at various levels, from primary school to degree level, with especial focus on Maths and Further Maths A-level. Feedback has been enthusiastic, and I am very happy to have been of help to so many students.

I have worked in high school and for the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust; I currently work part-time in Student Support Services at the University of Leeds.

Tutoring Approach:

I strive to provide a friendly and welcoming environment where you can feel confident that you will receive sympathetic and understanding guidance, whatever your ability level.
You will be totally in charge - I am here to serve you. Everyone has different requirements and a different learning style, and I am happy to adapt as necessary. Having a tutor is not like being at school: if you have tried and failed to understand a point several times already, it is my job to patiently find a way to approach it that works for you. If there's something you don't understand due to a lack of background knowledge, of course I am happy to go back as far as is necessary to ensure that you are comfortable and confident.
If you agree, I like to start each lesson with a brief warm-up of practice calculations or algebra, suited to your level, and I will generally set homework to consolidate learning, either in the lesson or emailed to you shortly afterwards - I consider this to be very important.

I keep detailed records on each student and on each lesson, to ensure that nothing is missed.
I am always happy to be contacted between lessons by phone or email, in case you need help with a particular question or subject area.

Sessions are charged on a sliding scale according the student`s ability to pay. The figure given is only an example.. I believe that everyone should have access to excellent teaching regardless of race, religion, disability, gender, or wealth. The first introductory lesson is always FREE.
