Personal Description:
Unlike most tutors, I am a qualified and successful Physics teacher.

I am an experienced and fully qualified secondary school teacher in Science with a specialism in Physics. I have vast experience of tutoring from year 7 up to A-level and unlike other tutors I am also a qualified teacher who is currently teaching in the classroom. This allows me to be up-to-date with curriculum changes, coursework requirements and thorough knowledge of areas which students struggle with in all aspects of Science. I am also a six form school tutor which means that I understand the requirements for entry into six form and the UCAS process.

I am originally from Wales and have been living in North London for 14 years. I consider myself to be friendly and conscientious. Education is an important tool and I enjoy working with children and seeing them be the best that they can be.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a secondary school Physics teacher with 6+ years experience. I am also responsible for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at my school. Both of my parents were teachers and tutors (Head of Department in Science and SENCO) whilst I was growing up. Therefore teaching and education have always been an important part of my life.
I am a teacher and have taught 11-19 year old students in three comprehensive mixed schools in various boroughs in London including Hillingdon Borough, Camden and Haringey.
I am currently tutoring a number of students to achieve their best in AS Physics (AQA/EDEXCEL/OCR board) and teaching A-level OCR Physics at school. I have vast experience teaching KS3 Science and KS4 every board.

Tutoring Approach:

Each child is different, so I like to design a plan after first finding out where the problems arise. Every child is different and I find that you cannot treat every child in the same way. I follow the syllabuses and specification, as these are my main tools as well as past exam papers........practice makes perfect!

I have vast amounts of experience working with young people and adults from a range of backgrounds and with a range of abilities. I understand the anxieties and challenges involved in being a learner; as well as teaching I too am a student, studying for a Degree in Counselling, so realise how important it is to give learners support, clear guidance and help them create a structure for their learning. - Birkbeck, University of London. Here I was a Psychology lecturer for open access adult courses including Foundations of Modern Psychology and Psychological issues in Adolescence. For the later I was solely responsible for developing the syllabus and all resources as well as the delivery and assessment of written work. Again, I am on sabbatical from this post.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching and tutoring style is entirely learner-focused. I aim to empower learners to identity their own strengths and areas for development, but supporting them in this process. I prepare materials that will meet their needs, with an eye always on the syllabus and the skills needed in order to pass any assessment (exams or coursework).

An effective, warm, co-operative and empathetic working relationship is what I seek to establish from the start of the tutoring process. Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of English with many years of study, research and training in some of the world's top universities. My qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in English Literature and the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in English, including Media Studies and Drama. My Initial Teacher Training covered all aspects of English and all abilities in the 11-18 age range. My interests, of benefit to many students especially at university level, include Critical Theory, Classical Literature, and African Literature. I have guided many students doing research and proof-read their dissertations. I have also taken the official training for one-to-one tutors rolled out by the government to complement classroom teaching. Teaching Experience:

My first teaching appointment came in 1988 in Cameroon where I taught English and African Literature, becoming an 'A' Level examiner for the Cameroon GCE examination board in 1990. I later took the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) leading to the PGCE, finishing my last year as Education Student of the Year in my university and receiving a national commendation for the quality of my work. I have since taught in different schools in Kent and Medway, preparing students for exams such as Functional Skills, IELTS, GCSE, 'A' Level, IB and AEA. I have also given one-to-one tuition to looked-after teenagers under a government scheme as well as taught in a secure unit for which, in addition to enhanced disclosure CRBs, I was vetted over a six month period. My first long-term (over 3 months) supply position involved teaching GCSE English, 'A' Level English Literature, and the IB. Most of my teaching has been in selective (grammar) schools. I have also given English lessons in my local community as part of an outreach programme organised for speakers of other languages by my church where I teach Bible Studies also.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to establish the needs of the students and carefully review all available assessment records. If the student is preparing for a special exam such as the GCSE, I would start by ensuring that the student is aware of the full requirements of the exam and establish a clear plan to cover these. Alongside any such programme, I believe strongly in incorporating the fundamentals of English grammar which are sometimes overlooked in formal teaching settings. I like to build a good rapport with the student so that they are comfortable revealing possible areas of weakness that we could turn into strengths.

APPROACH TO TUITION

Tailoring tuition to suit the student
The advantage of one-to-one tuition is that I can assess what specific needs a student has, and organise my lessons around those needs. Some students need essay technique help some have a specific set of topics they want to go over others might need an entire course taught to them as they have left school or are being home educated.

Knowing the syllabus
All GCSEs and A Levels follow a national syllabus, and I know them all very well. In my first lesson with any student I will make sure they are aware of the overall requirements of the syllabus, on a topic-by-topic basis. I will always stick to what the student needs to know to pass that particular syllabus I do not needlessly make students learn things they do not need to know.

Digital handouts
In my years of tuition, I have built up a cloud-based digital archive of hundreds of handouts. Say a student is learning about arguments for the existence of God for RS A Level - I have handouts very clearly outlining the Ontological, Teleological and Cosmological arguments and all relevant criticisms. These handouts are a great extra help alongside my teaching.

I graduated from MSc Financial Computing at UCL with a distinction and did my bachelor degree in Mathematics (Upper Second Class) at UCL.

Having spent my childhood in Luxembourg, I am fluent in 4 languages (German, French, English and Luxembourgish) and semi-fluent in Swedish. My father is French and my mother is German - thus I am at a native level in both French and German.

Thus I have been tutoring up to 6 students at a time in Mathematics, German and French.

Since I have a strong background in music, having played the piano since the age of 3 and having won several international piano competitions as well as considering a career as a concert pianist, I have also tutored several students in Piano.

All of my students enjoy my teaching style, as it is less formal and thus more relaxed. It has made all of my students motivated as, from my overall experience, the last thing a kid or teenager wants to do outside of school is a lesson that reminds them of school. To make lessons more fun, I am using several apps and websites that enable for a better interactivity within the lessons and allow me to track the progress through some of the apps later on and showcase it to the student's parents. From my experience, this way of teaching enables them to be open to a bigger intake of knowledge and results in faster and more detailed learning.

I studied Theology at both Leeds Trinity College and Durham University, where I achieved a First Class Honours degree and later Merit. After doing regular guest teaching and classroom assistance, I took the PTLLS Level 4 at the Advance Training Academy and began tutoring in 2014. Since then I have taught people from Cramlington, Durham, Dunston, Gateshead, and Sunderland (to name just a few examples). Each of my students has steadily increased their grades, achieving A*-C.

My aim is to provide first quality tuition in Religious Studies and Philosophy and to help people become more confident in these subjects. I am an individual who is committed to making education a lasting experience rather than a lecture to be endured. My experiences have taught me that each student has the potential to grow and change. To that end I take on students of all dispositions, from the confident and capable to nervous and struggling type.

I am based in the North East of England and offer face-to-face tuition to anyone in this region. However, I offer online tuition to people from other regions (Skype, phone or email).

My experience is threefold:
Classroom assistance: I did classroom work at Gateshead Volunteering and Opportunities Centre and New College Durham (2013). My duties involved: helping struggling students with classroom activities, helping them to express themselves and dealing with classroom behavioural issues. When working with students, I was noted for being approachable, compassionate, kind and patient.
Guest teaching: I gave regular guest lessons in Theology and Religious studies at Leeds Trinity University College, Jesmond Methodist Church, Gosforth High School and the Royal Grammar School (2011-14). My lessons were recognised as well-prepared, thought-provoking, and thorough.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition:
Face-to-face: tuition is conducted at the student's home. It is always good practice to have an adult around the house. Face-to-face tuition is available to any student within reasonable travelling distance of Newcastle City Centre.
Online: tuition is conducted via phone, Skype and email (depending on the client preference). Online tuition is available to any student in the UK.

Each lesson is tailored to individual needs. The preliminary meeting will focus on your learning needs, and from this we will establish your goals for the tuition and the process for helping you to meet them. We will discuss how we can make the sessions play to your individual learning styles and strengths.

In lessons, we usually focus on two specific areas:
Extra teaching: we will usually have a discussion on a particular topic.
You will be given a detailed hand-out, some discussion questions, and (if necessary) a brief background on the important key thinkers.
Essay-writing: I will provide an essay-writing formula, which we will then
apply to past-paper questions, which will support you to write essays based on past exam papers. As part of the service, I will review the answer and provide detailed feedback to support further learning.

I am a Canadian studying abroad here in Glasgow and therefore do not have GCSEs or A levels, but I have the equivalent levels from Canadian institutions with top marks. I have several years of teaching experience in different settings and with different age groups. I've taught English as a Second Language in a camp setting which ran lessons similar to classroom lessons every morning. I had to design my own approaches to various topics which gave me a lot of practice in making studying and learning interesting and easier for children who were less interested or struggling. I also tutored on a private basis for primary school-aged children through the medium of French and English in reading and writing skills as well as the general subjects at that age. Learning should be fun.
Aim is to help student learn how they understand instruction so that they are more confident in their own abilities and can perform better in the future.
Use past work to improve on future work.

Learning should be fun and I strive to make the tutoring experience less about school work and more about understanding the ways in which what is being taught is of interest to the student. Finding ways to improve the student's understanding and learning experience sometimes means approaching the material in a different way than is being taught in class. Teachers understand that not all student learn the same way but cannot always deliver their teaching in all these ways. By helping the student understand the material first and then explaining the method the teacher used to explain it first allows the student to reach their full potential, understand the material, and go back to class with a better chance following the teacher's instruction.

All of this is done in a light-mannered way that does not make the child feel as though tutoring is a punishment for not understanding in class, but rather, a (sometimes lengthy) temporary situation until the student becomes more confident about his or her own skills!

Using the student's own work is an important tool for helping them recognize their own areas of difficulty and should be used again as mock exams to help the student see tangible proof of their improvements. The best understanding of any subject comes from watching it being done/having it explained, doing it oneself, and then teaching it in turn.

I would like the tutee to feel comfortable during a session and I take a friendly approach, I do not intend to gain a friendship with the tutee but I find a fair, balanced and equal relationship is best for both the tutor and the tutee and for the best development and progress.
I will sit with the tutee and support them with a learning plan, targeting what areas they need most work with small tests at the end of a topic in order to make sure that they have fully grasped the knowledge, if they have not then I will take time to go over this again. I develop my teaching technique to each learner, if one is better with sheets and learning by the book I shall help them that way, if one learns with physical examples then I shall make sure that each learner is equipped with all they need to gain the relevant knowledge.

I feel that I would be a great tutor and I can connect with children for three reasons:

1. I'm not really old and I have siblings, so I know how to engage and make learning fun so they don't feel intimidated by a teacher appearance
2. I have managed to develop my own learning skills to suit my abilities and I work closely with each tutee to use their skills to improve their education. If they have learning difficulties, I show them how to use them to their advantage and find ways of learning that suits them.
3. I'm not perfect. I teach children that everyone is different and that being yourself is most important. I would never compare one student to another.

Having said this, I will aim to provide the best service of education I can, along with squeezing every ounce of potential out of each tutee so that they can ultimately reach or exceed their own goals and expectations so that they have the ability to get the best opportunities and have the best education possible.

I have competited in the world of karate for over 35 years Nationaly and internationaly. I hold the title of world champion for 2015 in Japan, chitose.

Teaching Experience:

I have more then 25 years experience of teaching children and adults of all abilities both in groups and individually. In addition to karate sessions I offer self-defence courses, which can be tailored, to a specific duration and target group, such as women and so on.
I'm a saiko shihan (International karate master) in the KWF (Karate World Federation) in Japan and the chief instructor KWF GB. I teach and travel around the world to teach and give Grading examination. Through these affiliations and my position I am authorised to offer grading nationally and internationally to beginners and black belt levels.

Teaching Experience:

During my PhD and while working as a researcher I developed and delivered short, practical workshops to a wide audience, from primary school children through secondary school at GCSE and A-Level, and to the general community at outreach days. Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, holding a PGCE from the University of Cambrige and Qualified Teacher Status. I have 3 years of teaching experience, including at two top grammar schools (The Tiffin Girls' School and Chelmsford County High School for Girls). I have taught Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation across all Key Stages, and have extensive experience of preparing students for public examinations. My most recent cohort of students achieved 78% at A* and 100% at grades A* - B at GCSE; 100% of my A Level students achieved grades A* - B. I am a firm believer in ensuring that the basics of language learning are strong, with a focus on grammatical knowledge and understanding. I understand that students have different barriers to learning and aims and ambitions they wish to realise, and I ensure to take these into consideration when preparing lessons and learning activities.
When learning Latin and Greek, recall of accidence, syntax and vocabulary is crucial to ensure that reading Classical texts, the aim of learning ancient languages, comes naturally. I am very patient and understand from my own learning of Classical languages that everyone has their own particular areas of difficulty; I aim to help students through understanding tricky constructions and reading challenging texts with patience, humour and dedication. For students entering public examinations, past paper practice is key and I ensure that students are as well prepared as they can be. For Oxbridge applicants, interview practice and contemplating issues surrounding the subject, along with experience of reading classical texts under pressure in a test or interview environment, is important to ensure that they shine during the interview process.
Regardless of the level that the student is working at, be it beginning learning Latin or Greek, sitting their Classical Civilisation A Level or preparing for an Oxbridge interview, I am a firm believer in drawing out the full potential of all my tutees and aim to help students achieve their very best.
