I am a native speaking qualified tutor with more than 10 years' language training experience. I worked for the University and secondary schools and I have been involved in one-to-one tuition for well over ten years. Furthermore, I have first hand experience of running businesses, which helps me better understand the needs and requirements of my business clients.

I have authored a Russian language textbook for Elementary and Pre-Intermediate levels - "The Story Sensation: for learners of the Russian language (and not only for Guadeloupians!)", available on Amazon, at Foyles and other major book-stores (you can check readers' reviews on Amazon).

Qualifications: MPhil in Linguistics, St Petersburg State University. MA in Political Economy of Russia, University College London (School of Slavonic and East European Studies). Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and the Institute of Directors, member of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce and International Association of Russian Language Teachers.

I mostly teach in the City of London, Canary Wharf and Mayfair as well as on-line (my current students are based in Luxembourg, Paris, and Moscow). However, we can discuss it, if you live outside these areas.

More than 10 years' experience of private tuition of foreign languages. I used to work for the University and secondary schools and I have been involved in one-to-one tuition for a number of years.

Tutoring Approach:

I can be of use for both children and adults and offer a number of courses, including Business Russian, conversational classes, assistance with grammar. ON-LINE language classes are now available.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.

Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.

I enjoy maths and helping other people to enjoy it too. I have always kept up my interest in maths by studying with the Open University and I particularly enjoy finding ways to use games and puzzles to create interest and understanding. I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.

I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for a year and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I can offer tuition up to AS level (C1, C2, S1). I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.

I have gained experience in teaching to both adults and younger students (secondary school and degree level), both in formal context (I taught in university degree courses and schools) and less formal (evening and leisure courses) as well as Italian for business (directly to companies for their employees).

Tutoring Approach:

I privilege the communicative approach as after all languages are made to communicate! This allows all lessons to be more relaxed and rewarding as small results can be achieved - and seen - every time. I have run absolute beginners intensive courses and my aim is to allow the student(s) to go home speaking from the first time, however little it might be. At the same time, I also tend not to forget about grammar as it is the structure of the language and gives a better insight and understanding, but even grammar doesn't necessarily need to be taught in a very conservative manner.

Since then, my enjoyment in tutoring has led me to be involved in two tutoring projects. This is both privately in my local area and also voluntarily, the latter being with my university and an organisation called Team Up ().

Tutoring Approach:

We would work through a main textbook (CGP range seems to work best) and I provide explanations in a clearer, more interactive manner to clarify understanding. I then set homework tasks based on what we have learnt. I can connect with all my students on a friendly level in this way, pausing to answer any questions, whilst ensuring progression and focus at all times. I have seen this approach work countless times in my experience. In some cases, students enjoy it so much they ask me to set them even more homework!

The purpose of a tutor is to assist students in learning the concepts covered in the students' learning material. I gained my degree in Aeronautical Engineering back in the late 70's, having chosen the subject mainly to continue with my love of applied maths. I worked for some years as an aerodynamicist before studying for my PGCE in Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Mathematics in the capacity of a supply teacher and that of a 1 To 1 Tutor for some years now. This has allowed me to continue to work whilst also taking a major role in the wider education of my children who are now themselves studying at university. I was a Governor of 2 schools in Wiltshire, involved with PTFA here in Lancashire and help to run Preston Pride Basketball Club. For 2 years I successfully tutored pupils in school at Fleetwood High and more recently I taught Catch-up GCSE mathematics to students at Cardinal Newman College, helping them to gain some very good results.

I try to make lessons enjoyable, believing that learning happens more easily when you are having fun. Hi, my name is Lauren and I am 23 years old. I am currently undertaking my clinical training as a third year medical student via the Graduate Entry Programme at Imperial College London. Prior to this I read Natural Sciences at University of Cambridge with an interest in a range of biological topics including biology of cells, physiology, pathology and history & ethics of medicine.

I have always been a hardworking and conscientious student but more importantly I have made an effort to adapt and improve my approach to learning to meet the increasing demands that school and university brings. I would love to use my experiences to help other students work towards and achieve their goals, and pass on the studying skills I have found so helpful.

During my time at Cambridge I found the small-group-based supervisions to be the best way to test my own understanding of a topic and a great opportunity to seek answers to questions that had not been raised during class. This is why I believe tutoring is one of the most effective ways for a student to enhance their own education. Furthermore having been a supervisee myself I understand the qualities that are sought in a tutor. The supervisors I most admired were those that were approachable, patient and knowledgeable; qualities I strive to embody in my own tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have many years of experience providing guidance, support and advice to students over a wide age range both in academic and extra-curricular settings.

During sixth form I was a senior student for the mathematics department tutoring students in year 7-9 at lunchtimes, in particular guiding them through assignments they had been unable to complete in class and taking the time to revisit topics they had found more challenging. I was also elected to be a prefect responsible for overseeing the welfare of a year 9 form throughout the academic year.

Whilst at Cambridge I took part in an e-monitoring scheme where I provided advice and guidance to a sixth form student applying to university from an access-targeted school. I also became a 'college parent' to three students in the year below whom I provided support to in their studies and general advice about university life.

More recently at Imperial I have volunteered with the 'Teddy Bear Hospital Scheme' helping to run interactive and fun workshops at local primary schools to educate children about the importance of health and challenge their fear of doctors. I also continue to help my five younger siblings with their homework and exam preparation, feeling a great sense of pride as I have watched each of them progress from primary to secondary school.

I am very excited to tutor students in the areas of mathematics and science, as well as help with university applications and entrance exams (UKCAT average = 790).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the best approach to tutoring is to work in partnership with the tutee in an environment that we both feel comfortable, ensuring an interactive and engaging session.

The teaching methods used will be adapted to every tutee, catering to the individual differences in learning approaches and pace. These could range from working through practice questions to test a tutee's knowledge, using diagrams to explain difficult concepts, to having an open and two-way discussion about a topic of interest. I would explore these specifics prior to and during the first session so that I could appreciate the needs of the tutee. In later sessions we can review the approach used and make changes if both the tutee and I feel this would be beneficial.

Whether a tutee is looking to understand the basics of topic they are struggling with or wanting to push themselves to excel in areas they are interested in I believe everyone can reach their potential and that is what I set out to do through my tutoring.
