Personal Description:
See what some of my previous students have to say about me:

Samuel has a quiet and unassuming manner which worked well with our lively teenage son who had previously been a little disinterested in Maths. Our son commented:- "that he had understood more from Samuel in three months than during his entire GCSE course at full time school ".
I commend Samuel highly. He is honest, friendly, reliable, quiet and exceptionally well qualified. He has a very good understanding of a child's needs and personality. Our son's result speaks for itself.
(John Jeffrey, Wallingford)

In my son's own words - "I wish all my teachers at school would take the same approach, I am able to understand & grasp his teaching methods clearly."
(Etrily Williams, Didcot)

You were patient and calm in all your dealings with Lucy.
Thank you for your help and best wishes for the future.
(Rhonda Telford, Wootton)

We are absolutely delighted with the work Samuel has done with our daughter. She has gained enormous confidence through his patience and wonderfully clear instruction. Never an academic high flier, she has moved on leaps and bounds through his help. We have had outside help before, but none with the success she has achieved with Samuel. We have the highest confidence in him and would recommend him to any friend.
(Dr Bart van Es, Oxford)

I found Samuel to be pleasant, patient and thorough and my son was pleased to find that he was able to discuss some topics in which he was particularly interested, at a greater depth than was actually required for the exams, during the lessons. I am pleased to say that my son achieved A grades in Physics, Chemistry and Biology on the higher tier papers this summer, following his revision sessions with Samuel.
(Lynda Mayne, Blewbury)

Samuel's tuition helped me to understand and achieve a good grade in a subject that I found difficult. He was easy to talk to and willing to go over and over concepts until I understood. Without Samuel's help, I would not have achieved the grade I did.
(Georgia Manning, Didcot)

I think that Samuel helped me significantly in my physics work, having the chance to work one on one with someone that clearly understands the subject to a great depth is far better than the class room environment.
(Elliot Gasper, Harwell)

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, with six years' experience of teaching at secondary school. I also have over six years' experience of one-to-one teaching. I have helped students of all levels of ability prepare for their exams. Get in touch to discuss how I can help you too.

Tutoring Approach:

It can be easy to get lost in a class. Private tuition, though, is all about you. What you need, what you find confusing, what you want to learn.

Come to a session with an area you want to go over, a topic you don't understand or just some homework that you don't get. I promise you that no question will ever be too stupid, no matter how many times you think you have asked it before. We will go over it until we find a way that makes sense to you.

When you don't understand a topic, it is usually because there are some gaps in your knowledge further back - especially in subjects like maths and science. I will help you to find those gaps and fill them in. This often means that topics that used to be just a confusing mass of rules and equations suddenly start to make sense.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Personal Description:
I am available to give one to one Mathematics and Physics tutorials to those wishing to expand their skills and their understanding in these subjects. These tutorials can include all levels: KS3, GCSE, AS and A levels. My tutorials can be in person or delivered through Skype. I'm happy to take any student from to those struggling to pick up the basic concepts to those high flying through the course and wish to take their mathematics a stage further.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my Masters of Computer Science at Oxford University, I continued to study for a further year to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for 11 to 18 year old in Mathematics. Since then I have been teaching Mathematics at a specialist secondary school for those with special educational needs, most common of which being dyslexia.

In my last set of tutees, the majority of my students obtained two grades higher than they performed six months previously - taking one person doing Physics from a D at AS level to a B.

Tutoring Approach:

Many teachers see tutoring as teaching, but with only one student in the classroom. This idea misses the advantages one to one tutoring has. One to one tutoring allows a substantial dept of understanding to be gained which is difficult to achieve in the classroom. This is achieved in tutorials by giving the tutee the space to learn and the time to learn. Space to learn means the tutor asking frequent questions tailored to the individual that are short, clear and non-leading. Time to learn, gives the tutee time to think and calculate answers to such questions.

Personal Description:
I am a private maths tutor, although I teach other subjects too. I am very passionate about the maths, in fact I have studied it at degree level for that reason. I hope to potentially be a maths teacher in future, as I can think of nothing better than sharing the skills that I have learnt throughout my life in education with others and watching my students flourish when they realize the joy of learning. Teaching is a very rewarding and respectable job and if done properly it can mold the lives of many young people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for a tution center part time for a couple of years now, which is open during school term time. I teach up to GCSE level there, focusing on maths, science and English. I also work privately helping those of all ages and abilities, including adult learners as well as children of a very young age.

Although I claim to help up to an A-Level maths standard, I have the ability and experience to help those at university struggling with foundation maths courses, or statistic related modules within most university courses.

Other subjects I teach privately include the social sciences, such as psychology and sociology. However as mentioned maths is my forte.

I have also taken part in a mentoring programme called paired reading, where I helped children in high school who were not reading at their aspired level, reach new heights, which consequently lead to them doing better in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student should feel comfortable with their teacher. Although you have to take a firm approach at times particularly when handling groups or younger children. If a child is apprehensive towards their teacher, they will be reluctant to ask for help, and therefore their hesitation will result in them not reaching their potential. I believe a person can achieve anything if they dedicate the right amount of time to it. More importantly if they show interest in it. As a tutor it is my job to help my students unlock their potential. To show them the real life application of what they are learning and how to apply their new found knowledge.

Personal Description:
I'm a 23-year-old graduate of the University of Cambridge, having recently completed my studies and earning a First-Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) with a Merit at the Masters course in Mathematics. Have lived in Leeds for a while, moving to Edinburgh to work on a PhD at the end of the Summer. Am keen on sharing my knowledge and experience with the next generation.

Teaching Experience:

Have spent two separate periods of two weeks volunteering at a local high school and assisting in Maths lessons. Worked with students of all ages and abilities from Years 7 through to 13, and gave presentations about my work at University.

Tutored one student between November 2012 and April 2013 with positive feedback. A reference is not yet available. I have worked in the past with several students during lessons, and also spent one hour with a student that helped life her GCSE maths grade from B to A. In addition have prepared several fully-worked and explained answers to questions posted online (links available on request).

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that the student is guided through the subject as clearly as possible, with a lot of questions asked of the student when appropriate, that hopefully will allow him/her to think through the topic for themselves. In addition I aim to provide a clear understanding of why the topic being studied is important/ where it allows us to end up, and so on.

Personal Description:
I completed my degree in chemistry in 1993 and began my PhD in physical chemistry the following year. Following completion of my PhD I continued to work in academic research in physical and materials chemistry until 2002 when I changed career to work in industry. I initially started off as a chemist in an analytical laboratory before working my way into senior management in the automotive, chemical and oil industries. My areas of industrial expertise also cover quality, enviromental and health and safety auditing and management.
I have recently taken time out from industry to work with my husband at an outdoor education centre in the south east. I coach cycling, kayaking and canoeing and am also heavily involved in the running of this centre. I also do consultancy work for various organisations including the Health and Safety Executive.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching chemistry, physics and mathematics up to and including degree level and I have also supervised students at university up to and including PhD level in chemistry.
I have experience of tutoring maths, physics and chemistry up to A-level as a private tutor. I enjoy being a tutor and find it very rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in helping the student to understand fully what they are learning not just reciting information from memory. Not all students can recall everything they are told to memorise but understanding how something works or what causes something to happen is more readily remembered. Breaking down difficult subjects into more easily understood concepts in a progressive manner makes learning less stressful and more readily absorbed.
Everyone learns at different rates hence I am flexible with bookings and the amount of time required to cover what needs to be learned.
I am happy to travel to Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury, Thanet, Ashford and Sittingbourne and areas in between.
I don't tutor at my own home as I have a large dog and, although he welcomes visitors, he is a huge distraction!
I am currently taking booking for summer revision from June 2014 and for next academic year.

Personal Description:
I am Science Teacher in the Bromley area, who is currently teaching GCSE Double Award Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics units 1 and 2) in a local school. I also teach KS3 for all three subjects and so am able to provide any extra tuition for any of these subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I completed a PGCE in secondary eduction, graduating in 2010. During my training year I worked in two differing schools in Liverpool - one was a really tough, inner-city school with lots of behavioural problems, and the other a Catholic school which offered a mix of academic course and vocational qualifications.

Upon graduating I worked in an all-girls school in Liverpool. The school has an outstanding academic reputation in the area - scoring 99% 5 A*-C including English and Maths. I completed part of my NQT induction year at the school.

Following on from a successful start, I decided to move down south to get a different perspective of teaching in a different area. I started at a local school in Bromley and have since completed my PGCE course and have gained considerable experience in the classroom. I have also recently been observed by Ofsted who were impressed with my teaching style.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a range of different ways to help tutor a pupil. I understand that people learn in different ways, and so in the first few sessions will try and discover which way the student learns best and so will then adapt my practice to suit them. In the class room I use models, demonstrations, set my own challenging questions, use examination style questions (and break them up into manageable sized chunks).

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic individual with a strong academic background and good teaching experience. I have a 1st class degree in Biology from the University of Leeds (for which I graduated first in my year). After working in the field of conservation and media I went on to complete a PhD in Environmental Anthropology at UCL.

I have a genuine passion for teaching and find it extremely rewarding inspiring students to reach their potential.

Please note that at the moment I am only available for intensive catchup/revision sessions during the summer holidays (July/August 2014) I also do one off sessions in interview training, particularly for those applying to universities.

Teaching Experience:

After finishing 'A' levels I worked as a lab technician at Villier's High School in Southall, where I was often asked to demonstrate practicals to GCSE students. As an undergraduate in Leeds I mentored GCSE students who were struggling academically. During my PhD I taught undergraduate courses on Human Ecology. I have always managed to successfully engage the students with the course material, and have been commended by students and other staff members for my teaching abilities.

Recently I have worked as a teaching assistant for the Department of Anthropology at UCL. I also worked for the Information Services Department training postgraduates and staff in using different computer software packages. I have just finished a short-term contract working as an associate lecturer at Oxford Brookes University. I am currently tutoring two GCSE students in maths and combined science and one in 'A' level biology.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a strong communicator and have a flare for teaching complex ideas in a simple concise way. I like to make learning as fun as possible and try to link real world examples to the material at hand. I am good at quickly identifying a student's strengths and weaknesses; enabling me to instill confidence in strength areas while addressing any gaps that may be present. I realize each student is different and I respond sensitively to each individual's needs concerning pace and learning style, at the same time making sure all the material is covered.

Personal Description:
I am 26 and currently living and teaching in London. I went University in Cardiff and am originally from Bristol. My hobbies include reading, going to the gym and travelling. I have always had a passion for teaching and working with children and I believe that providing the right education at an early age can be a very powerful tool, giving children the best platform to make the most out of life.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching in a London primary school, specialising in years 3 & 4. I achieved the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education, before going on to study for a BA Honors degree in Educational Studies and Early Years. For the past eight years I have worked alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum. During this time I have gained valuable experience in a variety of settings, working with children from 0 - 11 years, as well as those with special educational needs. I also have experience as a nanny and in home tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I am hard working and results driven and thrive when given responsibility and presented with new challenges. I am always looking for innovative ways of doing things and fun new learning techniques. I will bring the determination, passion, commitment and empathy needed to help children excel themselves in a way that makes them look forward to learning.
The primary years of a child's education provide the academic foundation that shapes children's basic knowledge, skill and understanding while implementing positive attitudes towards their learning experience. I believe this to be the most important stage in a child's development and one of the reasons why I love to teach this age range.

Personal Description:
I am a 17 year old girl who is currently studying her AS Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and French.
I have completed my GCSE`s and gained 2Astar`s, 7A`s and 3B`s and I am predicted 4A`s in my AS Levels.
I enjoy socialising with friends and family alike but also have a passion for learning and hope to go further into the field of Chemistry, such as Chemical Engineering, Forensic Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

I hope to see some of you soon!

Teaching Experience:

I have never tutored before but I often help younger members in my family with advice and help on their work and school worries, by sharing my personal experiences and I aim to get them to achieve their full potential and to find a pathway which they have a passion for at an early age.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutors and students should always have good communication and the way to do that is to build a solid foundation between each other by listening and aiding in a proactive way, rather than forcing a student to learn something.
I understand that all students learn in different ways and believe that I am versatile enough to adapt to their ways and try a range of activities with them to help them grasp their full ability.
