Personal Description:
I'm a recent University of Glasgow Biochemistry and MSc International Project Management graduate. I'm a French national and have been living in the UK for 14 years. I'm a lovely person, very dynamic and love the one to one of tutoring. It makes me really happy to help someone achieve something they have worked so hard for.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately now for 7 years and have seen my students come to grow in confidence, in understanding and in knowledge of their chosen topics. I saw a girl who I tutored for 7 months go from getting an 'Unclassified grade' in her Biology AS Level to a B in her A2. I have never seen a student of mine's grades stay the same post-tutoring and I am very proud of that.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach tutoring different ways depending on who the student is. I ask them questions about themselves, hobbies, favourite subjects etc; and then using that to better understand how they learn, I talk to them about their private learning and revision and the method of approach to that and to exams. And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and consider myself both easy going and approachable, whilst being firm and demanding enough to get the best out of any potential student. I graduated with a 2:1 in Biochemistry (with a year in industry) from the University York. Following from my undergraduate degree I obtained an MRes with distinction in Molecular Plant Biology and Biotechnology at Imperial College London. This was followed by a further MRes with distinction in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London. I am currently undertaking an Engineering doctorate at University College London, where my research area focuses on the production of algal biomass. The work falls within the fields of Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, and I have recently obtained research grants to pursue my work.

Teaching Experience:

At university I would often take part in student led tutorials and workshops, allowing me to hone my teaching and listening skills. I currently demonstrate in undergraduate laboratory classes and lead seminar discussions within my department. This university teaching experience is coupled with considerable prior activity in tutoring both friends, family and students of all ages in scientific subject areas, with high levels of success. I am currently tutoring key stage 3, and GCSE biology, chemistry and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an informal teaching style and seek to understand the particular educational requirements of each individual tutee. To this end I will endeavor to promote educational development through note taking, written exercises, case studies, question and discussion periods, as well as with independent study. When the time comes for formal examinations the learning focus will shift to past paper practice and improving general examination technique. I have a firm belief in always being approachable for any type of question, great or small and l like to foster an inquisitive relationship with my tutee.

Personal Description:
My name is Ed. I recently graduated from Durham University with 1st class honours in Maths and Physics. I achieved straight A result with six A-levels including Maths, Further Maths, German, Physics, Chemistry and Chinese. I am an experienced tutor and have previously tutored students from a variety of schools and institutions. I am very patient and my primary focus is to help you achieve your goals and objectives.

I currently work in the finance industry. I also work as a private tutor for a top tutoring company in central London. I am flexible and can travel to you. I am available in the evenings on weekdays and anytime on the weekends.

Please contact me for further enquiries. I can provide you references upon request.

Teaching Experience:

Private Tutor at Bonas Macfarlane, London, July 2010 - Present
I tutor a variety of subjects at different levels from primary schools to A-levels. I teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, German and Chinese. I also offer service on giving academic advice as well as interview techniques for entering into top schools and universities in the UK.

University Marker, Department of Mathematics, Durham University, October 2009 - May 2010
I mentored second year Maths undergraduates at Durham University. I have learned to work through the arguments and thought processes of others and give constructive feedback.

Sixth Form Tutor, Framwellgate Sixth Form College, Durham, October 2006 - June 2009
I tutored Maths (GCSE, A-Level), Chemistry (GCSE, A-level), German (GCSE, A-Level) and Chinese (GCSE, A-Level) at Durham Framwellgate Sixth Form College for three years. I helped all of my tutees achieve more than what they were initially targeting to achieve. I also learned to prepare teaching materials and adopt various teaching methods.

Teaching Assistant, Student Associate Scheme, Middlesbrough, June to July 2008
Co-operated between the Training and Developing Agency (TDA) and the target schools in the Northeast, I worked alongside experienced teachers to gain classroom teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is simple and effective. The general framework is to go through general concepts that are fundamental to student's understanding on the subject through the use of simple examples. I will then reinforce the message and encourage students to work on more specific and challenging problems. Confidence is key and it is vital that my tutees are constantly motivated and encouraged in order to self-develop both at an academic and personal level.

I also strive to make lessons as interactive as I can. I understand the different learning needs of different students. I will always be flexible and will do my best to help you succeed.

Personal Description:
I am a private tutor and University Lecturer at the University of Salford where I teach full time on the Physiotherapy undergraduate degree course. I have seventeen years of experience of teaching within Higher Education covering subjects such as biology, physical education, science, psychology, anatomy, physiology, research methods, study skills, and assignment writing. I completed my PhD in 2009 at the University of Central Lancashire where I undertook research in Rheumatology.

Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 10 years at hospitals in my local area, achieving Senior I grade. During this time I assumed the role of Clinical Educator for students of Physiotherapy thus beginning my teaching career. While working within the NHS I was also the Physiotherapist to the England Women's football team for three years. This was a unique and memorable experience and I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union.

I am an internationally published author, having written and edited seven books which have been translated into ten languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing, study skills and health studies.

As part of my teaching I am have been an external examiner at the Universities of East London and Bradford on their undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions and modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy.

I began working as a private tutor four years ago. This role gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers an incredible amount of job satisfaction.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for several years now, and I am now an assessor and marker for A levels and one of the earliest members of the Tutors Association. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. Please note that if you are a student at the University of Salford i will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.

Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.

As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutees home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.

In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age.

I usually teach on a one to one basis for all age groups and am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A' level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning.
The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.

Additional Information

While I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.

I am also able to offer the additional educational services:

• literature searching
• proof reading
• essay planning
• essay structuring

As I work full time I will require notice to complete any of these tasks and I am unable to write complete assignments as this would be unethical.

Thanks very much for viewing my profile.

Personal Description:
My name is Julia and I am 22 years old. I have just started the fourth year of my MSci Astrophysics degree at University College London.

I completed 5 A-Levels (Maths, French, Physics, Chemistry and General Studies) at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls in Birmingham, receiving 3 A grades (Physics, French, General Studies) and 2 B grades (Maths, Chemistry). I have a keen interest in the languages as well as the sciences, and at GCSE I received 9 A* grades and 4 A grades, so am able to teach a very wide spectrum of subjects confidently. Feel free to message me if you need a particular subject that I haven't mentioned - I've probably studied it at some level!

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience tutoring for both Physics and French GCSEs whilst I was at secondary school, and in the last 4 years I have taught nearly 20 different students aged from 7 to 18 years in a wide range of subjects.

Primary Years;
Humanities (History, Geography, RS)
French & Spanish
Maths
Science
English
11+ Entrance Exams

Secondary;
Maths
English
Combined Science
Separate Sciences

(I have also taught these extensively at GCSE level)

A-Level;
Maths
Physics

I also hold a current CRB check which I would be happy to provide for you.

I am looking for students to teach ideally at the weekends but Wednesdays and Fridays are also available. I also have great babysitting experience as I was a nanny for three very young girls for a year, so if you need a combination of a babysitter and someone who can help with homework, then that's me!

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to encourage more people, girls in particular, to take an interest in the sciences and study them at a higher level, and after my degree I plan to begin Teacher Training and hopefully teach the Sciences at secondary school level. I am a relaxed, bubbly tutor whose main aim is to get students genuinely interested in their studies - I find that this is really important for continued academic success and is the reason I'm so passionate about becoming a science teacher.

Parents of my students consistently describe me as responsible and approachable, and are constantly recommending me to their friends. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions - I pride myself on being friendly and flexible with my availability. Please also note the prices listed on my profile are slightly negotiable - if you live nearby or can commit to more than one lesson a week I'd be more than happy to discuss a slight reduction with you.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experience secondary school Mathematics teacher who has taught for several years in top schools in Oxford and Central London. I have acted as Head of Department where I redesigned the curriculum taking the best mathematics teaching concepts from around the world(Singapore, The Netherlands, etc). From this research I understood that it is one mindset knowing Mathematics, it is another mindset to be able to explain mathematical concepts in an understandable way to gain better progression in the subject.

I am available to give one to one Mathematics and Physics tutorials to those wishing to expand their skills and their understanding in these subjects. These tutorials can include all levels: KS3, GCSE, AS and A levels. My tutorials can be in person or delivered through Skype. I'm happy to take any student from to those struggling to pick up the basic concepts to those high flying through the course and wish to take their mathematics a stage further.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my Masters of Computer Science at Oxford University, I continued to study for a further year to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for 11 to 18 year old in Mathematics. Since then I have been teaching Mathematics at a specialist secondary school for those with special educational needs, most common of which being dyslexia.

In my last set of tutees, the majority of my students obtained two grades higher than they performed six months previously - taking one person doing Physics went from a D at AS level to a final grade of B at A level.

Tutoring Approach:

Many teachers see tutoring as teaching, but with only one student in the classroom. This idea misses the advantages one to one tutoring has. One to one tutoring allows a substantial dept of understanding to be gained which is difficult to achieve in the classroom. This is achieved in tutorials by giving the tutee the space to learn and the time to learn. Space to learn means the tutor asking frequent questions tailored to the individual that are short, clear and non-leading. Time to learn, gives the tutee time to think and calculate answers to such questions.

Personal Description:
I enjoy trying new things and experiences. In the past I have represented various institutions in Football, Rugby, American Football and Baseball. I have presented and produced over 24 hours of radio shows on student radio. I have done many of the UK's longer walks and trails including the Dales Way and the Coast-to-Coast. I have hiked through the mountains of Texas and rafted down the Colorado River. I can even pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

I am constantly learning new things, even new methods of factorising. You can never view yourself as complete.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and took up a post in a 11-18 state comprehensive. Here I taught Science at Key Stage 3 and specialised in Physics at Key Stages 4 and 5. After I moved to the south coast I spent 6 months supplying at various schools in Hampshire. This opened my eyes to the full range of skills a good educator should have. I honestly feel my teaching skills were vastly enriched by teaching in a variety of environments in many different subjects.
From March 2011 I was hired by a prestigious tutoring agency based in Oxford to work for a wealthy client and their two sons in the Middle East. This consisted of after-school tutoring 5 evenings a week in a variety of subjects.
Now back in the UK I teach in an Engineering Academy run to train Network Rail Apprentices. I tutor in the evenings from 11+ entrance exam students to those sitting their A2 exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I truly believe that every child is born a genius, with the ability to grasp everything that is put in front of them. From that point on, society, parents, and peers all put barriers in our minds. It is my goal to see that these barriers are destroyed. Learning is done by the student rather than teaching done by the teacher. A teacher can teach a dog to whistle, it doesn't meant the dog will learn.

A tutor is merely a resource. Just like a book, or an expensive laptop. Achieving the optimal results requires a holistic approach to education. I tend to work heavily with educational psychology theory and pinpoint the exact pieces of the puzzle far beneath the surface that allow the bigger picture to be seen. I teach my tutees to look at examinations in a way they may have never seen them before, allowing them to reduce the anxiety and be truly confident in themselves.

The content of subject matter often comes second to learning technique. How people learn differs between individuals. There can never be one set way to solve a problem so I offer various routes and pin point techniques that can be beneficial.

Personal Description:
I am a biological and medicinal chemistry graduate from the University of Exeter, a top-ten university. My degree focuses upon the design and synthesis of drugs and their interaction within biological systems. As such, I have an in-depth knowledge of biochemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. Currently, I am studying for my PhD in biochemistry.

I can explain topics within biology and chemistry simply and am willing to help with anything from understanding topics to coursework. At College, I studied the International Baccalaureate, using both A-level and IB textbooks. Due to this, I can teach both IB and A-level students.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching AQA A-level chemistry and GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

Very relaxed and easy going. I would give lessons on the syllabus and try to get the student to participate in them by answering questions. We could then revise topics together to make sure everything is learnt and there are no problems in understanding. This would culminate in looking at past papers and going through model answers.

Personal Description:
I am a private maths tutor, although I teach other subjects too. I am very passionate about the maths, in fact I have studied it at degree level for that reason. I hope to potentially be a maths teacher in future, as I can think of nothing better than sharing the skills that I have learnt throughout my life in education with others and watching my students flourish when they realize the joy of learning. Teaching is a very rewarding and respectable job and if done properly it can mold the lives of many young people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for a tution center part time for a couple of years now, which is open during school term time. I teach up to GCSE level there, focusing on maths, science and English. I also work privately helping those of all ages and abilities, including adult learners as well as children of a very young age.

Although I claim to help up to an A-Level maths standard, I have the ability and experience to help those at university struggling with foundation maths courses, or statistic related modules within most university courses.

Other subjects I teach privately include the social sciences, such as psychology and sociology. However as mentioned maths is my forte.

I have also taken part in a mentoring programme called paired reading, where I helped children in high school who were not reading at their aspired level, reach new heights, which consequently lead to them doing better in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student should feel comfortable with their teacher. Although you have to take a firm approach at times particularly when handling groups or younger children. If a child is apprehensive towards their teacher, they will be reluctant to ask for help, and therefore their hesitation will result in them not reaching their potential. I believe a person can achieve anything if they dedicate the right amount of time to it. More importantly if they show interest in it. As a tutor it is my job to help my students unlock their potential. To show them the real life application of what they are learning and how to apply their new found knowledge.

Personal Description:
I graduated from University of Leeds as Masters in Bio-science in 2011. I have worked as a research technician (Faculty of biological sciences at University of Leeds) since my graduation. I have been tutoring on weekends while I was working as a research technician, as I love helping students with their grades. I have demonstrated undergraduates in the laboratory and helped them understand science from a pracical point of view. I have decided to dedicate myself as a private tutor for sometime from beginning of march. Every student needs certain kind of guidance which is different from other fellow student in his/her class. Understanding the nature of the student and helping them with their difficulties is what I do. I am a very patient girl and very good with adoloscents with their behaviour. From my experinece of tutoring and having a brother who is appearing for A level this year, I have gathered that teenagers are more comfortable taking help from tutors than parents.

Teaching Experience:

I have earlier taught students of age group 11-16 and helped them gain confidence in their weak subjects.
I was a research technician at University of Leeds so I had to demonstrate and teach them how to do things.
I love science and have higher education in field of biological science,so I am efficient and capable to teach kids the basics of science.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel tutoring is all about understanding the way the student grasps the concepts and implements. I prefer the fun-way of learning and remembering things. In this way the student remembers the basics and never forgets rather than practicing without understanding main concept. I feel once you make the student comfortable and make them realize how they should approach particular subjects, the student develops his own skills of learning. Its all about interacting with the student and finding a way so as how to make a student get intersted in particular subject. The moment the student is interested in the subject, its just matter of time that they start learning and help themselves.

Personal Description:
I am a 3rd year medical student studying at imperial college london. I have obtained academic distinction in both 1st and 2nd year examination, therefore I believe I have an effective method of learning with which I can help the students.

I am very passionate about teaching as I believe with the right method, students would be able to reach their potential. Different students have different ways of optimised learning, it is both challenging and rewarding to explore the best way of learning for them, and that's where the fun of teaching lies for me.

Having experienced GCSE/Alevel and now in university, I feel that there are various learning habits developed during my GCSE/Alevel years which if not corrected, could hinder an effective learning later on in university; namely, the rigid way of cramming hard facts and not truly absorbing the essence of it. Therefore, I feel strongly about guiding the students onto the correct learning habits which could benefit them not just for exam in the short term, but for life-long learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have experiences tutoring lower-year students during GCSE and Alevel.
I am also tutoring year 1 & 2 medical students on background science and clinical medicine.
I have also participated as a tutor in teaching days organised by imperial college medical school directed at GCSE & A level students with the aim of introducing them to medicine and human physiology.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a focused teaching approach where key learning points should be emphasized, students would be taught independent problem-solving, that is, applying learnt principles to a variety of different problems. Memorising methods are important for learning hard facts, but helping the students to truly understand and explore the principles is the central focus.
Even though the essence of teaching is the same, there's differences in how we should approach different subjects.

mathematics:
There's two key points to learning maths; a thorough understanding of key principles, and a flexible mind when approaching mathematical problems. The students should be shown how the principles are derived within reasonably simple-level scope, as not understanding how and why the principles are derived could lead to rigid way of mathematical thinking, which then leads to the students unable to solve those problems with a twist to them. A flexible mind not only comes with adequate understanding of the key teaching points, but also comes with guided practice. I would encourage the students to tackle a variety of mathematical problem based on the principle, with an increasing degree of difficulty, as it is important to teach the students not to be afraid of difficult and challenging questions. With a systematic approach, difficult problems becomes self-evidently easy.

Science (biology, chemistry, physics)
For GCSE/A-LEVEL, because of the learning is relatively basic in comparison to the higher education, there's many new concepts introduced which could be hard to get their head around to. Especially when it is often the case that a conclusion is given to the students as a hard fact for them to memorise, but nothing is explained in term of how such conclusion is reached. In such case, I am aiming to explain the basis behind various mechanism in the simplest language with plenty of analogies so to allow the students to have the whole picture, this I find actually improve on their long-term memory of the hard facts.
Real-life application is another way of encouraging their interest in the subject, as well as their desire to learn more about the natural mechanics that governs our biological, physical and chemical system, by making the link, and seeing the application, can they truly appreciate the relevance of learning science.

Mandarin
When it comes to teaching language, the key is to provide a native environment, and encourage as much communication and practice with them as possible. Since a large amount of the work lies on memorisation, it could be quite dull for the student, therefore, I am using a variety of teaching tools (graphical, presentation, discussion, games and role-play) to makes it interesting and fun for the students, it would also help to establish a sense of acheivement quite early on in language learning.

I have been tutoring in the UK for 1.5 years now & during this time have carved a niche among my students for being approachable & having a sound understanding of the subjects & helping them in all possible ways.I am a very patient & child friendly person.
As a Tutor I have helped students from Primary to GCSE level with Maths & Science preparing for a competitive exam & have made permanent & good relations with my clients.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring Approach
I feel that having a good foundation to any subject is the way to go thus this would usually where I begin. If a student has a good understanding of the basics in any subject, more complicated details will seem much easier; like building blocks. After this, a focus on the weaker areas would then be applied to reinforce the student's understanding.

To begin, I start with revision techniques, worksheets and make new, very detailed, class/revision notes with my students. After developing a solid understanding, I begin with exam questions . Every lesson I give them homework. Essentially, what I offer are school lessons that are more detailed and focused than what they receive in school. Through these methods, I am able to thoroughly assess a student's abilities, increase them and hopefully up their grades.
My innovative pedagogies and teaching style and teacher friendly approach makes the concepts easy and passion and love for teaching
has made me popular among my students

Personal Description:
My name is Ryan and I am currently in my fourth year of undergraduate medical training at Barts Medical School. I have also just completed an educational degree based around medicine. I am very passionate about teaching and I hope this translates into my lessons.

My general area of interest is in the sciences, in particular biology. I have A-grades in biology, chemistry, and maths at A-level and A* in all sciences at GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught extensively throughout this year in a variety of formats including one-to-one sessions, lecturing, and class teaching. I have spent this year studying the science and psychology behind teaching and learning and I can therefore back-up my teaching techniques with extensive evidence. I have helped struggling students on the course to improve and achieve their aims.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take an interactive approach to tutoring with the student engaged at all times - This method aims to reduce 'spoon-feeding' information as much as possible and ensures active understanding of the taught material. This also has the benefit of being more fun for the student and is a much more powerful method of learning.

Creating an atmosphere where the student feels comfortable to ask questions and converse is very important to me .

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate from University College London studying BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering and I am aiming to start an MSc in Power Systems Engineering in the next year. I have always had a great fondness of maths and the sciences and have based my study choices on that fondness. I developed my love of these subjects while studying at a private school (Bancroft's School) in Woodford Green where I also partook in the large range of extracurricular activities (incl. sports teams, drama and Combined Cadet Force). It is these activities that, I feel, have given me the ability to work efficiently and improved my interpersonal skills. At university, I have also been part of the hockey society and where I captained a team and was part of the overall committee. My general passion of maths and science is one of which I hope to share with most I meet.

Teaching Experience:

I have had several years experience tutoring, most have been while I was at school, where I taught my colleagues through out the years. My name was then passed on to their parents who employed me to teach younger siblings and to their family friends.
During my senior years in the CCF, it was required that the younger years would need to be taught the relevant materials. These were generally classes of about 15 teenagers and lessons occurring each week and tests of my own devising to be given at the end of the term.

Tutoring Approach:

I personally believe that the key to retaining knowledge is to fully grasp the concepts and being able to relate the idea to a real life situation. In one on one tutoring it is ideal to gain a positive rapport between student and teacher where openness will allow for direct targeting of areas of difficulty. When issues are raised, they can be tackled accordingly to help alleviate any doubt and increase overall confidence. An amicable relationship must be maintained so as to keep the student happy and smiling. I believe if you are in a good mood and at ease it will be much easier to learn. Finally, PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE. Once the concepts have been learnt, the more you go over examples, the more familiar you are with it. My hope is that the student starts to dream about the solution to questions!

Personal Description:
I am a Chemical Engineering graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge. I am a full-time tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring in 2006. My students have been of a variety of levels and backgrounds, ranging from Key Stage 3 Foundation level students to GCSE, A-level, and university students.

Here are some of the things my students have to say about me:

"Stas is an excellent tutor, I am studying Mechanical Engineering and his knowledge of Maths, Mechanics and Thermo Dynamics is extensive. He explained things in a clear and precise way and was always well prepared for the sessions. He was also punctual and reliable; it was a pleasure to learn from him."
Jack, Liverpool University

"I am currently studying Chemical Engineering, and Stas tutored me for Process Engineering, his teaching was nothing but the best, i understood the course in no time. He explains everything from the basics, something i wanted. Honestly, I will recommend him any day! He is a brilliant tutor."
Zahra, Manchester University

"Stas is an enthusiastic and patient Maths tutor. He has provided me with some very good examples, and has been a great help."
Jim, Manchester Metropolitan University, MA Bioinformatics

"Stas is a great tutor. I feel much more confident with Maths now then I did when we first started. It is evident in my grades that Stas has helped me improve in Maths. He is very good at explaining the material that I don't understand; he uses different scenarios to help explain them which enables me to apply Maths to real life situations. I enjoyed our tuition sessions, as Stas made Maths fun!"
Sehr, Manchester, A-level Maths

"This has been our first experience of using a tutor and it has been very good, thanks to Stas. Not only is he very reliable, but my son has enjoyed the sessions and learnt a great deal in terms of problem solving with his maths, Further Maths and Physics. Stas has also been able to help with some more complex Chemistry work. So far, they have worked through the more challenging sections of the Further Maths syllabus and past papers. Most importantly, my son finds their sessions extremely useful and Stas inspirational to work with."
Tamlyn, London

"My son, Alex was having problem with Biology, so far he had only few lessons with Stas but there's been a huge improvement in his grade already. We have been so impressed with Stas's teaching techniques, that we are taking on extra lessons in Maths and Physics with Stas. Stas is the most genuine teacher I've come across, there is no nonsense with him. I can see that Stas truly enjoys teaching and more importantly my son finds learning from Stas is so enjoyable."
Mel, Cheshire

"Stas has been extremely helpful. He has helped me with my math problems even though I am a mature Masters student. Stas was very patient with me and took the time to fully understand my math learning needs and difficulties. He took the time to understand the methods I had been previously taught but did not fully understand. He analyzed what my difficulties and issues were regarding math basics. Stas is a very professional and an effective teacher. I would highly recommend Stas to anyone who requires a math tutor."

Tutoring Approach:

Different people have different problems, so it would be somewhat inflexible to have a completely "catch-all" approach to how to teach people.

However, I tend to prefer a teaching style where the student is as active as possible. I usually acheive this by trying to get the student to reason through problems themselves, while helping them along the way. In my experience, this also helps me see where there are gaps in the student's knowledge, and helps me understand their thought process. (It is imperative to understand where the student is in their understanding.) It also helps approach a very common problem with students, which is fear, or lack of confidence - being encouraged to think through ideas and problems which they find difficult in a safe and non-judgmental environment can help them develop a better attitude to their subject.

I also try to offer connections with, and examples from, everyday life. I generally draw and use diagrams as much as possible, or even use props, as I find it to be the most expressive way of teaching.

I am also very enthusiastic about Science and Maths. I often find that this ends up rubbing off on some of my students!

Personal Description:
I am currently studying medicine at Imperial College London and also have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science from Aston University.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for four years and have spent 6 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. For the past two years I have worked part time at a tuition centre teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.
