I'm a recent University of Glasgow Biochemistry and MSc International Project Management graduate. I'm a French national and have been living in the UK for 14 years. I have been tutoring privately now for 7 years and have seen my students come to grow in confidence, in understanding and in knowledge of their chosen topics. I saw a girl who I tutored for 7 months go from getting an 'Unclassified grade' in her Biology AS Level to a B in her A2. I have never seen a student of mine's grades stay the same post-tutoring and I am very proud of that.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach tutoring different ways depending on who the student is. I ask them questions about themselves, hobbies, favourite subjects etc; and then using that to better understand how they learn, I talk to them about their private learning and revision and the method of approach to that and to exams. And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning.

Personal Description:
I like to be busy! I feel it is important to maintain a work-life balance, which, although admittedly was a steep learning curve in my NQT year, I have managed to achieve and perfect in my subsequent four years in teaching. I have five pets - three rats and two tortoises, which sometimes feels like a job in itself, although I adore them and wouldn't give them up in a second. I enjoy keeping fit and healthy and particularly enjoy running, cycling and fitness classes. Occasionally, I take part in events such as marathons, half marathons and cycle rides and raised 1000 for charity a few years ago by running three half-marathons in three subsequent months. I am also part of a local amateur theatre group and usually take part in one or two shows a year. These have included Little Shop of Horrors, Gigi, Sleeping Beauty and A Christmas Carol, amongst others. This has given me an enthusiasm for drama which I have explored through yearly key stage Christmas productions and assemblies at my last school, where I taught for 5 years. Finally, on my weekends off, I enjoy watching movies and reading on an occasional "duvet day."

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a primary school teacher in early 2006 and began supply teaching in Reading, where I had studied for my Education Degree. In May 2006, I began working in a one-form entry primary school in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, where I taught for 5 years and additionally led 5 curriculum areas in the school. During my time in this school, I planned and taught all National Curriculum subjects to children with a range of abilities and needs, including children who were "gifted and talented", children with autism and Downs syndrome, and children working below national expectations. A classroom with children working at a range of levels and with different interests and learning styles makes for challenging teaching, but allowed me to develop and hone a creative and flexible approach to teaching. I was observed regularly as part of continuing professional development, and in observations by my last two Headteachers, was graded as "excellent".
I am currently working as a Lower School Leader, teaching Reception and leading the Early Years and Key Stage One. It is a busy job with lots of challenge but lots of fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring for two years and have a few children I see regularly. I am keen to take on more, particularly in the school holidays. My teaching apporach is very flexible. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and at different rates, so this is reflected in my teaching. Hello there, this is Clair here, I`m 24 and am currently undertaking a chemical research PHD in the field of materials chemistry at UCL. I graduated from my undergraduate Chemistry degree at UCL and prior to this I lived in Portsmouth having moved there from Malaysia when I was 13. This coming September I am in line to be secretary of the Chemical and Physical Society, UCL's oldest society.

Aside from Chemistry I am also like running, taking photographs, going to see art, films, music and learning more about the world around me e.g. economics, politics and sociology.

Teaching Experience:

In recent years I have been in junior schools working with children during their science practicals. I have also had regular work tutoring one to one and small groups of KS3-GCSE students and have also been called in to help particular A-level/BTEC science classes. My name is John, I'm 23 years old. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2013 and I hold a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics. Teaching Experience:

I am extremely proud of my previous tutees. My personal highlight was tutoring an 18 year old who had failed his GCSE Mathematics exam on 6 previous occasions. Following some very hard work with me, the young man obtained the C grade that he required to take his place at University. I am comfortable tutoring students looking for a C grade, or higher achievers pushing for the A-A* grade.

I have excellent tutoring skills, having often helped other students at university with their mathematics modules with great success. I was also credited during my A Levels for how I brought other students on with their studies, especially in the very challenging area of Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic about tutoring. I have a passion to pass on knowledge to others and help them reach their potential. I find that students can relate to me and get along with me as I am young and can talk to them about their experiences as it wasn't that long ago that I went through it all. This creates a good working, studious atmosphere to the tuition.

My approach is one which gets the student thinking as much as possible. I try to teach technique to answer questions whilst giving a backbone of knowledge which can then be used in further work. Clearly in mathematics, question practise is key and I will provide lots of examples whilst keeping students interested. I think summarising is key, and I always will insist on detailed note taking.

My main frustration with students these days is how they try to attempt questions and calculations without consulting notes they have made in previous classes or sessions. I try to advise the approach of considering each inividual problem and thinking carefully how any knowledge previously gained can be applied. In this way students are always thinking and re-processing information which will prove fruitful when it comes to examinations.
