Personal Description:
I am an honours graduate of computer science and electronics. I spent 17 years in corporate management before becoming self employed as, among other things, a freelance lecturer. I am a professional life coach and tutor for enjoyment.

Please note, I will generally add a call out fee to the tuition fee shown, which goes some way to covering petrol and time in getting to you and home again. This is usually 6 or less - I can confirm the final figure with you when I know approximately where you are.

Teaching Experience:

I taught freelance for Bedford College for 4 years, and have been tutoring for 9 years. I have qualifications in adult teaching, and my coaching qualification also helps a lot.

Tutoring Approach:

Effective tutoring is a wonderful opportunity because I can tailor what I do very specifically for the student I'm working with, and that's as much about their personality and stress levels as it is about the material we're working with. I believe in teaching understanding rather than isolated rules, it builds confidence and security and does not rely on memory. My sessions are as relaxed and fun-filled as I can possibly make them without sacrificing the learning task before us.

Personal Description:
I am an 21 year old third year medical student at Peninsula medical school.

Obviously, my main interest lies with medical science, but I am hugely passionate about biology and chemistry - chemistry in particular - and enjoy sharing this with others through teaching.

Outside of academia, I enjoy dinghy sailing, surfing, fencing, and play the bass guitar.

At A level I gained three A* grades in biology, chemistry, and general studies and an A in maths. I also have an A grade in AS English language.

Unfortunately, due to university, I am unable to offer tuition during term time and am restricted to holidays. For this reason I am probably more suited to those wishing to get a head start before they return to school, who are struggling with the syllabus or who simply wish to learn! I am flexible with prices.

I am a mature individual with a keen sense of humour and love the challenge that comes with tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored a year 11 boy GCSE maths and combined science for one year (grades yet to be released);
Mentored a year 7/8 in school with reading and writing skills;
Experience in coaching 10-17 year olds in dinghy sailing, both practical and theory.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to instil a passion - or at the very least an interest - in the subject, by teaching both within and outside the syllabus to pass on the (sometimes) more interesting but ignored areas. Aside from this, I have a relaxed manner so that it doesn't feel too much like school to the tutee. If there is an area they wish to know about that I am unsure on, I will endeavour to learn about if before the next session so that they have a certain degree of input on what they learn whilst still covering the syllabus. I will ask the tutee lots of questions, as I have found this method very useful with it requiring you to think on your feet and explain answers coherently.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old qualified teacher, who is enthusiatic about all areas of the curriculum and supporting children in their learning journey.
I have a particular interest in languages and Literacy, and enjoy a rewarding job as a classroom teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in the classroom for seven years. I have had a variety of posts, teaching many children from different backgrounds and with different learning styles.
I have experience teaching children from five to eleven, and I also work with children up to Year eight in my current post.
I am the Learning Support Co-ordinator at my place of work as well as Year One class teacher, which enables me to have a greater insight into different learning and teaching styles, and support the learning of a diverse range of children.

Tutoring Approach:

I will direct each session towards a clear learning objective, and plan various activities to support and consolidate this. I believe that every child has uniques learning styles, and I will endeavour to plan sessions to appeal to these. Children learn best when they are fully enaged, and I will plan sessions to appeal to any strengths or particular interests of each child.
I will build a good working relationship with each student, as children work best when they are comfortable in a situation.
I hope that the pupils I support will have great enjoyment and success as a result of receiving tuition from me.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experience secondary school Mathematics teacher who has taught for several years in top schools in Oxford and Central London. I have acted as Head of Department where I redesigned the curriculum taking the best mathematics teaching concepts from around the world(Singapore, The Netherlands, etc). From this research I understood that it is one mindset knowing Mathematics, it is another mindset to be able to explain mathematical concepts in an understandable way to gain better progression in the subject.

I am available to give one to one Mathematics and Physics tutorials to those wishing to expand their skills and their understanding in these subjects. These tutorials can include all levels: KS3, GCSE, AS and A levels. My tutorials can be in person or delivered through Skype. I'm happy to take any student from to those struggling to pick up the basic concepts to those high flying through the course and wish to take their mathematics a stage further.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my Masters of Computer Science at Oxford University, I continued to study for a further year to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for 11 to 18 year old in Mathematics. Since then I have been teaching Mathematics at a specialist secondary school for those with special educational needs, most common of which being dyslexia.

In my last set of tutees, the majority of my students obtained two grades higher than they performed six months previously - taking one person doing Physics went from a D at AS level to a final grade of B at A level.

Tutoring Approach:

Many teachers see tutoring as teaching, but with only one student in the classroom. This idea misses the advantages one to one tutoring has. One to one tutoring allows a substantial dept of understanding to be gained which is difficult to achieve in the classroom. This is achieved in tutorials by giving the tutee the space to learn and the time to learn. Space to learn means the tutor asking frequent questions tailored to the individual that are short, clear and non-leading. Time to learn, gives the tutee time to think and calculate answers to such questions.

Personal Description:
I enjoy trying new things and experiences. In the past I have represented various institutions in Football, Rugby, American Football and Baseball. I have presented and produced over 24 hours of radio shows on student radio. I have done many of the UK's longer walks and trails including the Dales Way and the Coast-to-Coast. I have hiked through the mountains of Texas and rafted down the Colorado River. I can even pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

I am constantly learning new things, even new methods of factorising. You can never view yourself as complete.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and took up a post in a 11-18 state comprehensive. Here I taught Science at Key Stage 3 and specialised in Physics at Key Stages 4 and 5. After I moved to the south coast I spent 6 months supplying at various schools in Hampshire. This opened my eyes to the full range of skills a good educator should have. I honestly feel my teaching skills were vastly enriched by teaching in a variety of environments in many different subjects.
From March 2011 I was hired by a prestigious tutoring agency based in Oxford to work for a wealthy client and their two sons in the Middle East. This consisted of after-school tutoring 5 evenings a week in a variety of subjects.
Now back in the UK I teach in an Engineering Academy run to train Network Rail Apprentices. I tutor in the evenings from 11+ entrance exam students to those sitting their A2 exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I truly believe that every child is born a genius, with the ability to grasp everything that is put in front of them. From that point on, society, parents, and peers all put barriers in our minds. It is my goal to see that these barriers are destroyed. Learning is done by the student rather than teaching done by the teacher. A teacher can teach a dog to whistle, it doesn't meant the dog will learn.

A tutor is merely a resource. Just like a book, or an expensive laptop. Achieving the optimal results requires a holistic approach to education. I tend to work heavily with educational psychology theory and pinpoint the exact pieces of the puzzle far beneath the surface that allow the bigger picture to be seen. I teach my tutees to look at examinations in a way they may have never seen them before, allowing them to reduce the anxiety and be truly confident in themselves.

The content of subject matter often comes second to learning technique. How people learn differs between individuals. There can never be one set way to solve a problem so I offer various routes and pin point techniques that can be beneficial.

Personal Description:
I am a private maths tutor, although I teach other subjects too. I am very passionate about the maths, in fact I have studied it at degree level for that reason. I hope to potentially be a maths teacher in future, as I can think of nothing better than sharing the skills that I have learnt throughout my life in education with others and watching my students flourish when they realize the joy of learning. Teaching is a very rewarding and respectable job and if done properly it can mold the lives of many young people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for a tution center part time for a couple of years now, which is open during school term time. I teach up to GCSE level there, focusing on maths, science and English. I also work privately helping those of all ages and abilities, including adult learners as well as children of a very young age.

Although I claim to help up to an A-Level maths standard, I have the ability and experience to help those at university struggling with foundation maths courses, or statistic related modules within most university courses.

Other subjects I teach privately include the social sciences, such as psychology and sociology. However as mentioned maths is my forte.

I have also taken part in a mentoring programme called paired reading, where I helped children in high school who were not reading at their aspired level, reach new heights, which consequently lead to them doing better in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student should feel comfortable with their teacher. Although you have to take a firm approach at times particularly when handling groups or younger children. If a child is apprehensive towards their teacher, they will be reluctant to ask for help, and therefore their hesitation will result in them not reaching their potential. I believe a person can achieve anything if they dedicate the right amount of time to it. More importantly if they show interest in it. As a tutor it is my job to help my students unlock their potential. To show them the real life application of what they are learning and how to apply their new found knowledge.

Personal Description:
I like to be busy! I feel it is important to maintain a work-life balance, which, although admittedly was a steep learning curve in my NQT year, I have managed to achieve and perfect in my subsequent four years in teaching. I have five pets - three rats and two tortoises, which sometimes feels like a job in itself, although I adore them and wouldn't give them up in a second. I enjoy keeping fit and healthy and particularly enjoy running, cycling and fitness classes. Occasionally, I take part in events such as marathons, half marathons and cycle rides and raised 1000 for charity a few years ago by running three half-marathons in three subsequent months. I am also part of a local amateur theatre group and usually take part in one or two shows a year. These have included Little Shop of Horrors, Gigi, Sleeping Beauty and A Christmas Carol, amongst others. This has given me an enthusiasm for drama which I have explored through yearly key stage Christmas productions and assemblies at my last school, where I taught for 5 years. Finally, on my weekends off, I enjoy watching movies and reading on an occasional "duvet day."

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a primary school teacher in early 2006 and began supply teaching in Reading, where I had studied for my Education Degree. In May 2006, I began working in a one-form entry primary school in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, where I taught for 5 years and additionally led 5 curriculum areas in the school. During my time in this school, I planned and taught all National Curriculum subjects to children with a range of abilities and needs, including children who were "gifted and talented", children with autism and Downs syndrome, and children working below national expectations. A classroom with children working at a range of levels and with different interests and learning styles makes for challenging teaching, but allowed me to develop and hone a creative and flexible approach to teaching. I was observed regularly as part of continuing professional development, and in observations by my last two Headteachers, was graded as "excellent".
I am currently working as a Lower School Leader, teaching Reception and leading the Early Years and Key Stage One. It is a busy job with lots of challenge but lots of fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring for two years and have a few children I see regularly. I am keen to take on more, particularly in the school holidays. My teaching apporach is very flexible. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and at different rates, so this is reflected in my teaching. I cater to a range of learning styles, and ensure that my lessons are fun, yet suitably challenging. I feel it is important to keep learning fun for children of all ages, to motivate them to want to learn and to empower them to take ownership of their own learning. I feel teaching should be more than just a series of worksheets, and for children to really understand and take on new concepts, they need a range of approaches to enable them to explore their subject matter. For example, lessons may include work on a laptop, written work, games, experiments/investigations, role-play & drama and more.

Personal Description:
I am an A* achiever, who studied at the King's School and at Hills Road Sixth Form, Cambridge. I have a passion for Mathematics and a lot of experience with Sciences also.
I teach Maths and Sciences as a full time tutor so I spend a lot of time preparing lessons and materials to help the learner. I have a vast bank of resources and aids for all age groups which are all my own and adapted through my experience.
I went to King's School, Ely and I went to Hills Road Sixth Form College, where I studied Maths, French and German with Grades of A*AA.

I have a great interest in Maths and I teach it to a very high accuracy and standard. I am very friendly and have many skills and techniques in teaching which make learning interesting, easy and most importantly, fun!

I was also part of the Army Cadet Force and taught many lessons to both younger and older cadets. I am a great leader and role model to any student.

I am fluent in English and German and can teach in both of these languages if necessary.

Unlike other tutors who tutor as a hobby or part time, I fully dedicate myself to the learner and spend more time and effort planning and preparing the lessons and all of the resources, handouts and homework.

Teaching Experience:

I taught in Cambridge as a Maths Intervention Tutor, where I taught over 30 students in small groups to help improve their levels.
I have privately taught Maths to over 20 GCSE students, 3 A-Level students, 1 QTS student and 1 student the American GRE Test, all of which have exceeded their expectations and are 100% happy with the quality and price of the service I provided.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach people how I have been taught, and in a nice, friendly manner. I have been inspired by many of my teachers throughout my life and I feel that if you like a teacher, then you will like the subject. I am a very likeable person and I teach therefore in a friendly way and I make sure the learner fully understands how we arrive to the answer.

I have studied how people learn and to ensure the learner understands fully, I explain things in more than one way to suit the learning style because each person is individual and learns differently.
I show the learner a variety of different methods to obtain the correct answer and I have many great ways to help them remember things like formulae. I strive to make each lesson memorable to reinforce the knowledge.
I also provide a free workbook that we will write formalised notes in after each topic has been gone over to make sure the knowledge is being comprehended in all angles of learning.

On our first lesson we will look at a syllabus check-list and use a Traffic-Light System to find which areas need improving or working on.
Together, we will do many examples of each question, using different methods to make sure of full understanding.
I create my own lessons and materials and configure them to how the learner would best understand, using Anagrams, Mnemonics, Rhymes and Memorable Ideas and more, as well as the use of PowerPoints and Games.
One of the most important things we would do together nearer exam times would be to study the exam Past Papers, exam skills and exam techniques. Doing past papers is really vital to get used to the exam layout and how to achieve the maximum marks for each question.

I can teach all topics in Primary and Secondary Maths.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Niall and I'm currently working for a reputable, local, financial institution in Swindon. I graduated in 2010 in Economics at the University of Reading. My passion to teach started when I noticed younger family members were struggling at school, mainly in Maths. I tutored them all through KS1 - KS3 and GCSE level where they gained exceptionally high grades.

Teaching Experience:

Taught Maths to students aged 11-18 at a secondary school whilst in my second year at university.
Taught Maths and English to students in Turkey at a primary school and secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

Studying and revising shouldn't be a chore and I believe I can bring to life my subjects, even economics (nicknamed the "dull science"). Everyone learns differently and there are many methods to ensure the student is on the right learning curve.

Personal Description:
I am a 3rd year medical student studying at imperial college london. I have obtained academic distinction in both 1st and 2nd year examination, therefore I believe I have an effective method of learning with which I can help the students.

I am very passionate about teaching as I believe with the right method, students would be able to reach their potential. Different students have different ways of optimised learning, it is both challenging and rewarding to explore the best way of learning for them, and that's where the fun of teaching lies for me.

Having experienced GCSE/Alevel and now in university, I feel that there are various learning habits developed during my GCSE/Alevel years which if not corrected, could hinder an effective learning later on in university; namely, the rigid way of cramming hard facts and not truly absorbing the essence of it. Therefore, I feel strongly about guiding the students onto the correct learning habits which could benefit them not just for exam in the short term, but for life-long learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have experiences tutoring lower-year students during GCSE and Alevel.
I am also tutoring year 1 & 2 medical students on background science and clinical medicine.
I have also participated as a tutor in teaching days organised by imperial college medical school directed at GCSE & A level students with the aim of introducing them to medicine and human physiology.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a focused teaching approach where key learning points should be emphasized, students would be taught independent problem-solving, that is, applying learnt principles to a variety of different problems. Memorising methods are important for learning hard facts, but helping the students to truly understand and explore the principles is the central focus.
Even though the essence of teaching is the same, there's differences in how we should approach different subjects.

mathematics:
There's two key points to learning maths; a thorough understanding of key principles, and a flexible mind when approaching mathematical problems. The students should be shown how the principles are derived within reasonably simple-level scope, as not understanding how and why the principles are derived could lead to rigid way of mathematical thinking, which then leads to the students unable to solve those problems with a twist to them. A flexible mind not only comes with adequate understanding of the key teaching points, but also comes with guided practice. I would encourage the students to tackle a variety of mathematical problem based on the principle, with an increasing degree of difficulty, as it is important to teach the students not to be afraid of difficult and challenging questions. With a systematic approach, difficult problems becomes self-evidently easy.

Science (biology, chemistry, physics)
For GCSE/A-LEVEL, because of the learning is relatively basic in comparison to the higher education, there's many new concepts introduced which could be hard to get their head around to. Especially when it is often the case that a conclusion is given to the students as a hard fact for them to memorise, but nothing is explained in term of how such conclusion is reached. In such case, I am aiming to explain the basis behind various mechanism in the simplest language with plenty of analogies so to allow the students to have the whole picture, this I find actually improve on their long-term memory of the hard facts.
Real-life application is another way of encouraging their interest in the subject, as well as their desire to learn more about the natural mechanics that governs our biological, physical and chemical system, by making the link, and seeing the application, can they truly appreciate the relevance of learning science.

Mandarin
When it comes to teaching language, the key is to provide a native environment, and encourage as much communication and practice with them as possible. Since a large amount of the work lies on memorisation, it could be quite dull for the student, therefore, I am using a variety of teaching tools (graphical, presentation, discussion, games and role-play) to makes it interesting and fun for the students, it would also help to establish a sense of acheivement quite early on in language learning.

Personal Description:
As a scientist I have had extensive experience of teaching in an academic and lab environment, alongside interactive science at festivals and museums. I have always enjoyed teaching and I am passionate about igniting curiosity about science in those whom I teach. I have worked on a professional and voluntary basis with children from primary school age all the way up to Masters degree level.

Science can be a daunting subject and I appreciate the need to build confidence by tailoring explanations to different levels of understanding, and different types of personality.

My own scientific knowledge comes from understanding a topic rather than parrot-fashion memorising, I believe this is the best long-term learning method and therefore I will use this approach where possible with my students by building up from the basics.

I am very supportive of questions as working in the scientific field has taught me that there are no stupid questions and I think that learning is more efficient when a student enjoys what they are being taught. I also like to incorporate every day examples as I believe this can make science topics come alive and become relevant to an individual.

Teaching Experience:

- Private Tuition (2013): Last summer I tutored two year 10 students in GCSE level chemistry, both of which had a notable increase in their grades. One student after only 1 month of tuition made the remarkable achievement of an increase in grades from 34% to 64%.
- Work Experience Weeks (2005-current): I have supervised 16 A-level/undergraduate students for a work experience week. This involves tours of the labs, explanation of the science behind certain experiments and how drug development works (with written materials), as well as supervision of experiments.
- MSc Workshop (2011-2014): I created materials and helped run a workshop in Protein Modelling for the UCL MSc Drug Design course.
- Cancer Research UK (2011): Made a video and helped the Science Communication team create an interactive game to help the public understand how drugs bind into proteins.
- Volunteer Usher at Cheltenham Science Festival (2008-current): In groups I have helped supervised school classes doing experiments such as making a hot air balloon from tissue paper, drawing organs on a t-shirt (primary school), extracting DNA from a strawberry, making paper model DNA and using chemistry modelling equipment (secondary school)
- Cardiff Science Week (2004-2007): Supervised students with various science exhibits such as fishing for insects from a pond (primary school) and making a cell from a balloon and popping it to look at the inside of the cell (secondary school).
- Science Writing (2008-current): Writing articles at Cheltenham Science Festival, for London Science Museum and the Royal Society (for non-scientists and Children) has greatly improved by ability to write materials for tutoring. I have a portfolio if you are interested in this work.

Tutoring Approach:

As well as the approach I discussed above I also provide and create my own teaching materials with visual and interactive aids. I prefer to familiarise myself with the school syllabus so I can tailor my tutoring to the pupil's needs.

For any older pupils I can also offer advice on careers as well as help with CVs/applications to university.

I can also on request do small fun "kitchen" experiments to inspire interest and excitement in science.

Personal Description:
My name is John, I'm 23 years old. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2013 an I hold a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics. I have 4 A Level qualifications, in Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A* grade level, and in Biology and Chemistry at B grade level. I have 10 GCSE qualifications, all at A* or A grade, including Mathematics, English and Sciences.

I have recently moved to Rugby from Manchester. My current role is as a Transport Planner for Sainsbury's Logistics division.

Previously, I have worked for the Financial Operations department of Sainsbury's. I worked in the Retail Takings team as the Cash-In-Transit Account Controller. I was responsible for all cash deliveries and collections from our 1000+ stores, whilst also overseeing refurbishments and new store openings.

I am available most evenings from 4pm onwards, depending on my work and sporting commitments. I am also available every other weekend.

Teaching Experience:

I am extremely proud of my previous tutees. My personal highlight was tutoring an 18 year old who had failed his GCSE Mathematics exam on 6 previous occasions. Following some very hard work with me, the young man obtained the C grade that he required to take his place at University. I am comfortable tutoring students looking for a C grade, or higher achievers pushing for the A-A* grade.

I have excellent tutoring skills, having often helped other students at university with their mathematics modules with great success. I was also credited during my A Levels for how I brought other students on with their studies, especially in the very challenging area of Mathematics.

I have tutored children of various ages. My expertise is in A Level and GCSE level tuition. I am very focussed on exams, ensuring expected grades are met and beyond. However I also like to heighten understanding of the subject wherever possible, whilst keeping exam focus. I have received excellent feedback from parents for my open style and my ability to engage youngsters who do not see Mathematics as a priority.

I have always been proficient in helping my peers throughout my time studying, often picking up lower achieving peers and helping them achieve their potential. I have always been keen to not fall into the trap of 'doing the work for them' whilst helping peers, which is all too common in this situation and gets no one anywhere. I have always received excellent feedback on my more 'teacher like' approach.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic about tutoring. I have a passion to pass on knowledge to others and help them reach their potential. I find that students can relate to me and get along with me as I am young and can talk to them about their experiences as it wasn't that long ago that I went through it all. This creates a good working, studious atmosphere to the tuition.

My approach is one which gets the student thinking as much as possible. I try to teach technique to answer questions whilst giving a backbone of knowledge which can then be used in further work. Clearly in mathematics, question practise is key and I will provide lots of examples whilst keeping students interested. I think summarising is key, and I always will insist on detailed note taking.

My main frustration with students these days is how they try to attempt questions and calculations without consulting notes they have made in previous classes or sessions. I try to advise the approach of considering each inividual problem and thinking carefully how any knowledge previously gained can be applied. In this way students are always thinking and re-processing information which will prove fruitful when it comes to examinations.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying medicine at Imperial College London and also have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science from Aston University.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for four years and have spent 6 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. For the past two years I have worked part time at a tuition centre teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London studying for a BSc in Natural Sciences. It is my intention to go on to become a secondary science teacher next year.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent 4 months working part time in a secondary school, teaching all ages and ability levels Science. I have a strong grasp of the National Curriculum because of this. In my time there I worked very closely with the year 11 classes (GCSE year), making sure they fully understood some of the more complex information.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach will depend entirely upon your needs. Once a firm knowledge base has been established, I like to focus on practice exam questions. I think these are incredibly important as it helps you get used to putting down all that information on paper. I can also teach you good exam technique to make sure you excel.
