I am a fully qualified Geography Teacher with a BSc (2i) Honours Degree and PGCE in Geography with Geology from Birmingham University in Edgbaston and I specialise in Physical Geography at Advanced Level. I believe one to one tutoring can make all the difference for some pupils particularly when it comes to training in exam technique; dealing with individual topic difficulties; practising papers and building confidence in ones own abilities so encouraging independent learning. There are plenty of resources to aid learning out there in this day and age but often it is hard to find the wood from the trees and learning to focus and find the best for the individual is not always easy. I believe it is crucial to assess the individual student needs and learning styles in the first instance and then build the lessons from there. With a high first class degree in Physics from the University of York, for over three years now I have given tuition in Mathematics and Physics for all qualifications up to and including A Level as well as the Sciences to GCSE.

Teaching Experience:

After various school placements, including teaching in St Aidan's Harrogate (ranked among the highest achieving comprehensive schools in the country), I have helped a multitude of pupils ranging from as young as 8 through to mature students. I have experience of teaching AQA, Edexcel and OCR board syllabuses including IGCSE as well as Pre-U. I am happy to offer tuition for all other syllabuses as well, for example WJEC, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and for free-standing maths qualifications.
Additionally, I offer tuition to adults wanting to improve their maths understanding and skills, for example to help with their career or to pass QTS skills tests etc.
Students and parents have offered positive feedback from the results attained after my tuition including a great improvement in their grade and confidence. For example, a student's grade in A Level Physics improved from originally an E to an A after my tuition, while others attend their preferred schools after help with revision for their entrance exams.
I have helped several students with Asperger Syndrome, those with dyslexia and students who are home-schooled or had to move school due to behavioural difficulties or medical conditions. Additionally, I have had training for and taught students who did not live with their biological parents.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I can relate to students in a calm and patient manner and I have enjoyed helping them through difficulties with their subjects. I endeavour to find and solve the problems students have in their understanding to give them a firmer grasp of the topic, with the benefits from this being increased confidence and improved results.

My name is John, I'm 23 years old. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2013 and I hold a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics. Teaching Experience:

I am extremely proud of my previous tutees. My personal highlight was tutoring an 18 year old who had failed his GCSE Mathematics exam on 6 previous occasions. Following some very hard work with me, the young man obtained the C grade that he required to take his place at University. I am comfortable tutoring students looking for a C grade, or higher achievers pushing for the A-A* grade.

I have always received excellent feedback on my more 'teacher like' approach.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic about tutoring. I have a passion to pass on knowledge to others and help them reach their potential. I find that students can relate to me and get along with me as I am young and can talk to them about their experiences as it wasn't that long ago that I went through it all. This creates a good working, studious atmosphere to the tuition.

My approach is one which gets the student thinking as much as possible. I try to teach technique to answer questions whilst giving a backbone of knowledge which can then be used in further work. Clearly in mathematics, question practise is key and I will provide lots of examples whilst keeping students interested. I think summarising is key, and I always will insist on detailed note taking.

My main frustration with students these days is how they try to attempt questions and calculations without consulting notes they have made in previous classes or sessions. I try to advise the approach of considering each inividual problem and thinking carefully how any knowledge previously gained can be applied. In this way students are always thinking and re-processing information which will prove fruitful when it comes to examinations.
