I am a fully qualified and experienced teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. I have taught in a school near Wakefield for 8 years and have been a private tutor for five years. I am a very enthusiastic and approachable teacher. I can offer languages teaching in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese. I offer teaching at all levels; primary languages, with a view to possibly taking GCSE examinations early, Key stage 3, GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A2 levels and adult languages classes. I also cover the new GCSE and A-level specifications for exams in 2018. I have experience in all areas of languages teaching and I throughly enjoy teaching languages!

I also work for 3 distance learning schools, as a tutor for French and Spanish. I am Lead Tutor for one school and also carrying out consultancy work for the new A-level exam. I teach students from all over the world which is a real honour.

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take the language of their choice. Therefore, I am happy to offer to help students take a GCSE or A level in a language which may not be available in their school. I can help with assessments and speaking tests in addition to a high standard of tuition to learn the language at the desired level and beyond.

I am currently learning Chinese as it has always interested me and as a teacher, I know that I need to remember what it is like to be a language learner!

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE and QTS qualification in Modern Languages and as part of my studies, I taught in two schools in North Yorkshire. I have been a teacher in a Specialist Language College near Wakefield for 8 years and a private tutor for 2 years. As a teacher in a Specialist Language College, I have taught KS3 and GCSE languages in addition to working in the community, teaching languages at local Primary Schools and carrying out Adult language classes.

For my private tuition, I have taught many A-level students in addition to primary students, GCSE students and adult learners. I have found this to be very interesting to see how people learn in different ways and develop their confidence in learning a new language or gaining extra support for language learning.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I always check to see what level each student is at in the first lesson. All lessons are tailored to the students' needs so you can get the most out of learning a language. I recommend useful resources and I am happy to lend books and DVDs from the extensive range of resources I have built up as a result of tutees' wishes. I have an excellent knowledge of the national curriculum and exam specifications of all the boards and I keep up-to-date with the many changes which may occur in education.

I look at all language skills although I may focus on one or two particular areas if this is what the tutee needs (such as listening and speaking if exams were not to be taken). I use ICT in my lessons and use many different websites and encourage students to use these at home and I help with grammar, even if it is the basics, as an understanding of this is essential to learning a language successfully!

I set homework tasks each week for students and I also offer a 'mid lesson service', where students can Skype or Phone so that I can check on progress or answer any questions. A quick chat in the target language is fine too! This service is free. I am also happy to answer any texts on the language- that is what I'm here for!

I am an experienced industrial chemist, having postdoctoral experience with Avecia and GSK. I then retrained as a teacher and have taught at all levels from school to University. My experience covers A-levels and Advanced Higher. I have six years teaching experience, which includes 3 years at FE colleges, 1 year at University and 2 years at secondary school. As a home tutor and online tutor I have two years experience. Some of my students needed A's to enter Medicine or veterinary medicine. With my help they pulled their grades up to get this. Other students just wanted to pass and sometimes they surprised themselves by getting B's. I have taught dyslexic students as they were struggling with traditional teaching at school or college. Personal Description:
I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. I also have two qualifications from Ulster University in Peer Mentoring and Counselling.

I have strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills and self-motivator. Teaching Experience:

In the Diploma of Education and Qualification, I have been trained how to teach and how to deliver lectures in Arabic and English and also how to prepare lesson plan. I have experience of teaching university students in Syria as I was a lecturer at Aleppo University from 2002 to 2013. I enjoy teaching and lecturing and love my profession as I am particularly interested in communicating with individuals and groups. My colleagues and supervisors all say that I am a natural communicator and this, coupled with my knowledge of the field, leads me to think that I would make a good teacher. My mother tongue language is Arabic, yet my knowledge of written and spoken English is very good as well. Tutoring Approach:

It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. For example, the instructor's teaching style must address the learning style of the learner, the learner must be motivated, and the setting must provide resources and values that strongly support the teaching of the language. However, if the strands are not woven together effectively, the instructional loom is likely to produce something small, weak, ragged, and pale--not recognizable as a tapestry at all.

Graduate medical student and professional biology, mathematics, UKCAT and medical admissions tutor with 9+ years tutoring experience.

I have a first class BSc (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh in Developmental and Cell Biology, and I have worked teaching science and tutoring individuals since I was an undergraduate student. I have experience tutoring individuals aged 14 to 30 of all levels and abilities in both group and 1-to-1 settings, and I cover material ranging from National 3-5/GCSE level up to undergraduate senior honours. I am fully up-to-date on the SQA Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), and have experience tutoring CfE biology, human biology and mathematics at all levels, and chemistry and physics to National 5/GCSE.

In addition to these traditional tutoring services, I also run UKCAT tutoring over the summer months (June - August) for prospective UK medical and dental students. As a graduate medical student myself, I know the unique and daunting challenge these entrance exams pose to prospective medical and dental students of all ages and abilities, however from personal experience I know that they can be overcome through structured study and practice just like any other exam. I re-sit the UKCAT myself every year in order to keep up to date with changes and trends, most recently scoring an average of 815 in July 2016. As of April 2017 I have tutored 23 students through the UKCAT and medical or dental admissions process, and of those 100% gained at least 1 interview for medicine or dentistry and 96% were able to secure an offer. I also offer ongoing support for prospective medical and dental students throughout the application process if desired, including advice on entry, interview preparation and personal statement guidance and support at no extra cost.

I am a supervisor in zoology at Cambridge, for which I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences, and have worked as a tutor for all grade levels. I love animals and nature, and write fiction in my spare time. I come from a big family and am used to spending time with children and adults of all ages.

Teaching Experience:

My first formal tutoring job was during my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, where I worked as a peer tutor for biology, physics, and chemistry modules I had taken for my course. Working with peers was an excellent way to build communication skills to best explain complex concepts in a variety of scientific fields. My interests are not limited to science, however- I completed a minor degree in English and earned a certificate in Spanish as a part of my undergraduate education. I had the chance to tutor these subjects (in addition to maths and sciences) as a tutor for Varsity Tutors, a tutoring company in America. I worked for Varsity Tutors for about two years, tutoring students in person near my family home in Chicago for one year and online during the first year of my PhD. I am presently a PhD student in Cambridge, and I began supervising Cambridge students in the fall of 2016. I supervised two modules, both in Evolution and Behavior, and had the wonderful experience of teaching several groups of students for three terms (two courses and revision supervisions prior to exams). Building a connection with these students and watching them develop as scholars and as people was incredibly rewarding. I feel lucky to have taught them, and they nominated me for a Cambridge University Students' Union (CUSU) student-led teaching award. CUSU received about 600 nominations for the student-led teaching awards, and I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor with the Bureau of Study Counsel at Harvard, Varsity Tutors, and as a supervisor at Cambridge, I have found that one of the most important aspects of my role as a tutor is to connect personally with students to tailor my lessons to their learning styles and interests while bolstering their self-confidence. I have received some touching messages from parents of my students reiterating this fact (the students that stick out in my memory are a 14-year-old student I tutored in Advanced Placement Psychology who had become disheartened due to an ineffective teacher, and an 18-year-old basketball-focused student I tutored in English who developed his interest in writing and was considering studying poetry at university). I think that empowering the student to master the material is a very important part of being an effective tutor.
