Personal Description:
I completed Nuclear Power Engineering degree studies in 1990 after 6 years of training in Havana and Moscow. Between 1990 and 2004, I worked as a Biomedical researcher in the fields of Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Vaccine Development. This involves collaboration with many European and American research teams and working visits to leading Biomedical centres in UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Spain including several UK Royal Society Fellowships and a UK Wellcome Trust International Travelling Post-doctoral Fellowship at Glasgow University Division of Immunology/Microbiology, which can be followed up by publication in peer-review scientific journals. Since 2006, I have been teaching Mathematics at GCSE and A-levels in the UK and currently, I am teaching at these levels plus International Baccalaureate Level. I have been an external marker (Mathematics in English and Spanish languages) for the International Baccalaureate Organisation for the last two years. Born in Cuba, Spanish is my mother tongue, thus i am able to tutor at any level in these two subjects: Mathematics and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 4 years, I have had the opportunity to teach both in Scotland and England, thus I am familiar with mathematics teaching programmes in both locations. This include pupils at all stages of secondary education from 11-14 up to Advanced Highers/Advanced A-levels. It includes extensive tutoring practice with pupils preparing for GCSE(Standard Grade) and A(Higher) exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the role of a tutor is to encourage and guide pupils who are already interested to succeed in a particular topic. Thus, I would provide all the encouragement and academic support for them to achieve their top potential. In my experience over the years, I have observed over and over again, that pupils preparing for A/Higher levels exams show most difficulties linking contents taught in previous years(GCSE/Standard Grade) to the newer A/Higher level topics. Thus, I focus a good deal of attention to fill those gaps and develop both pupils' awareness of these connections and relevant knowledge and skills in such a way they are capable to perform independently achieving consistently a minimum of 70%-85% in practice papers prior to the actual exam date.

Personal Description:
I am a bright, energetic and affable person who has a deep passion for my subject. I have worked with children on various occasions and enjoy the challenge of inspiring their inquisitive minds.

Coming from a large family, I am at ease with people of all ages and I think children can engage with me as I am fun whilst still being disciplined enough to be a good authority figure.

Teaching Experience:

I have mentored and done individual/small group teaching at residential vacation schools as a student ambassador for my university. In such circumstances, I have taught across a broad range of subjects and to children of varying levels of ability so I am well accustomed to adapting to suit the needs of any student.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach will be tailored to each child but I believe strongly in engaging children by asking questions and leading them into discovering their own learning styles. In this way, I try to converse with children (rather than lecture) as I believe it is imperative they truly understand ideas, rather than nod and smile to pacify me/their parents/themselves!

Personal Description:
I am a Fine Art Graduate and practising artist living in Redland, Bristol willing to offer support, advice and tutoring to GCSE and A-Level ar students, whether it be preparing for the art exam or wanting some extra help with the big workload which is coursework.

I remember very well being overwhelmed by the amount of sketchbooks, critical appraisals and time which had to go into my coursework at school and making every bit count for those extra marks. After being through the mill with A-levels, a foundation course in art & design and a degree in fine art I will be able to offer some advice and help whether it be with practical techniques such as drawing or with critical analysis to try and help you figure out which direction your work is going.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously been a mentor to secondary level students (year 7) who had just started school, offering them support and a sympathetic ear within the school environment. This role was during my time at school and one which helped the students to intergrate into their new surroundings and voice any problems they had to someone other than a teacher.

I run my own part-time jewellery design business which has been established for over a year.

Tutoring Approach:

My main practice is heavily focused on drawing and I use methods such as printmaking and textiles to create my work. I have a strong background in drawing, particuarly life drawing, which I still enjoy doing.

I am also happy to discuss work and offer practical criticism as well as dealing with contentual issues relating to art work based on art theory and history. I have a current and up to date knowledge of the current art scene and reguarly take visits around the UK to keep myself in the loop.

Personal Description:
I work as a professional engineer and have been for the last 11 years. I have a BSc in engineering.

Maths is a vital part of Engineering and is used everyday to solve problem's such as areas, volumns, forces, stresses, it is the language of science and engineering. Most tutors brush up on their topics a few days before tutoring. Because I use maths everyday, I understand it fluently and should provide great tutoring knowledge.

Many kids feel that mathematics is an abstract and useless subject in life. With my experience I can give fine examples where the maths could be applied, and help change their attitude and views toward Maths.

Teaching Experience:

Over the years I haved worked around the UK with various companies large and small. In some of those offices we have taken on secondary school students at GCSE and A level standard for work experience. I was involved in mentoring some of these students with an introduction to engineering design, applying some basic mathematics, which is already taught at GCSE level, technical drawing, use of computer, basic research and management techniques.

Tutoring Approach:

It is assumed that the topics have been covered in school already and that the tutoring session is a means to advance the students understanding of the topics by further explaination and practise to enable them to perhaps enhance their potential grade.
Should you wish to form a small group for tutorials, I would be happy with that.

Should a study session be longer than 1 hour, I suggest 2x45 minutes, similar to a standard double lesson or lecture with a 10-15 minutes break in between.

Circular Motion, Gravitational Force, Centrifugal Force were some of the toughest topics in higher A-level physics. Can help out with tutorials.

Personal Description:
I studied Law in France (Aix en provence) and Sweden (Stockholm). I have 2 postgraduate diplomas and a qualification as a Conseiller Juridique in France. I decided to move to London in 1999 and I have worked in International Law Firms since then. The Law Firm I work for is in the City, near Liverpool Street. I am passionate about Art and regularly follow lectures at the Courtauld Institute of Art, I also enjoy learning other languages and practise sport.

Teaching Experience:

I have a BAFA certificate which is required to be able to supervise and animate a group of 12 children from age 3 to 15 in holiday camps. I have worked in that role every summer throughout my education in a holiday camps in the French Alps. During that time, teaching was a daily exercise, not so much on a particular topic or subject in an academic way, but through games, team sports, daily activities, fauna, flora.
During the last year at University, part of my postgraduate diploma was to present and teach a subject to 4th year students. The subjects taught were business law related (principally taxation).

Tutoring Approach:

I have not been a tutor in the UK and have only helped out some friends with French lessons in the past. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and thought of taking it further. I see teaching French as a language an opportunity to help someone get to grips with a very difficult language to learn in a pleasant and effective way, and also to discover the cultural diversity within the French speaking countries. Depending on the level, on the personality and personal interests of each student, I will endeavour to design the sessions so as to ensure that their aim is reached.

Personal Description:
I was educated a Portsmouth Grammar School and Cambridge University, obtaining a 2.i BA in Manufacturing Engineering. I have worked as an Avionics Engineer, FE lecturer and now I teach at Malvern College.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed 1 full year at Malvern College teaching Maths to 13-18 year olds. I worked for 1 year as an FE lecturer, teaching engineering subject to Army students. I have worked with Air Cadets for 3 years as an Officer. I have tutored a number of students privately, for Maths and Physics at different levels.

Tutoring Approach:

The point of individual private tutoring is the extent to which it is tailored to the individual student. I always seek to ensure that the student has a learning experience appropriate to their level and interests. In particular, I try to utilise real-life examples to make problems relevant where possible.
I enjoy enhancing the knowledge of young people, perhaps making them consider the topics being taught in a new light, or exposing them to areas beyond the exam syllabus. I do not enjoy the rigid 'box ticking' of exams - learning should be fun! However, most of my work is towards a particular exam with a student, and I can offer some tips on exam technique as well. When working towards a particular exam, as we so often do in life, I believe in practice practice practice. This usually means doing a lot of past papers, and I will work closely with a student through the syllabus in this way.
As I teach full time in Malvern, I will be availble for tutoring during the holidays only. This will inevitably lead to concentrated bursts of effort, most likely exam cramming!

Personal Description:
After I graduated from the Sheffield Hallam University in 2002 with LLB (Hons) Law I wanted to embark on a career that was going to provide me with the power and influence I yearned for, as a result, I joined a Restaurant as a Front-House Manager. However, I soon realised that the satisfaction and motivation I was seeking lay elsewhere.

In 2004, I moved on from the catering sector needing more contact with people and an opportunity to aid individuals in fulfilling their potential. Hence, I began teaching English for foreign students, Law at A level and Biology, Chemistry, English and History to GSCE students. I was inspired to teach by my own experiences at school.

Teaching Experience:

In 2004 I began teaching English to foreign students; Law to A level students; and Biology, Chemistry and History to GSCE students. I have found that conveying my own enthusiasm for the subject helped the students develop more confidence and a better understanding of it.

My ability to articulate concepts have proven to be key in helping students understand complex ideas and improve their grades. I am able to break down these ideas so the students can thoroughly understand and then apply to exam questions. The key to a successful grade is ample experience and understanding of past papers. I train and motivate students so they become very confident in completing past papers.

Tutoring Approach:

In my own experience I have found that conveying my own enthusiasm for the subject helped the students develop more confidence and a better understanding of it. I sought especially to find new ways of presenting ideas, to ensure that my class gained as much as they could.

My enthusiasm to work as a teacher stems from my desire to inspire and motivate others. I am extremely keen about making a positive difference to the lives of young people. I want to support them in establishing themselves and look forward to engaging with them and helping them achieve their goal.

I hope to captivate my students with my subjects and evoke a need or a desire within my students to partake in a future involving a life of learning and quests for information, truths, and facts. Throughout my time with them, I hope to expose them to an intriguing world of biology, chemistry and history, which I believe offers them one of many ways to look at the world. Additionally, I would like to be a role model to students by demonstrating the attributes of a good citizen, who embraces a devotion to his/her community, profession, family, and self.

As William Arthur Ward said "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." I always aim to be the latter!

Personal Description:
I have a BSc degree in Zoology from Newcastle University and have been teaching since 2001, most recently working as a supply teacher. I am well travelled and have lived in various parts of the world including the Far East, America and Greece. I have an 18 year old daughter studying music and still living at home so am in constant contact with young people. My passion is the environment and I am looking for a suitable property to convert to utilise renewable energy sources and become a carbon neutral household.

Teaching Experience:

I completed the GT programme at The Cornwallis School in Maidstone, Kent - attained QTS in April 2001 and continued working at Cornwallis until July 2007 when I moved back up to Northumberland.
I taught all three sciences to GCSE and A level Biology and had been KS3 co-ordinator for Science for a year before leaving Kent. Since moving north, I have worked as a supply teacher in middle and high schools, mostly as cover for long-term absence - I have again taught all the sciences including A level biology for both OCR and AQA exam boards.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel very strongly that the sciences should be exciting and stimulating - I am still enthralled by new findings and am constantly learning about my subject so tend to show enthusiasm in my approach. Students often ask why they need to study science to GCSE as it is irrelevant to their chosen career - my answer is to show them how simply sitting in a chair involves physics, chemistry and biology and that knowledge at all levels will equip them to deal with life experiences and teach them to think. I try to find strengths in their individual learning strategies and focus on the visual, auditory or kinesthetic depending on the pupil.
