I will always begin by discussing my tutee's individual requirements and areas of the syllabus they would like to focus on. Students may ask to recap concepts and theories that aren't fully understood, however in my experience most require help with exam technique, and how to translate their knowledge into a high grade answer. I therefore place a great emphasis on guiding students through the process of answering past paper questions, across all topic areas. In our sessions I will help with essay structure, illustrate how to use higher order analytical and evaluation skills, and crucially, how to apply an answer to information in a case study, or how to bring in real world examples.

Over the years I have taught an increasing proportion of students online, so that currently about 90% of my tutoring is done this way. I use Skype/Google Meet/Zoom and Google Docs, which students can also access. This makes the sessions as interactive as meeting face to face, and it also means I can tutor students from anywhere in the world (I have taught people in South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Spain, France, Serbia, Russia, Montenegro and Bermuda). I have a passion for creative writing and literature, and have taught ESL, Business, and General English along with English for Academic Purposes, IELTS and Cambridge exam preparation. I also teach focused reading, writing, listening and speaking communication skills classes, as well as pronunciation and creative writing classes. I am Erina, a native Japanese teacher regularly tutoring adult learners via online Skype lessons. My home town is Tokyo, where I was teaching Japanese. I've been teaching Japanese for 6 years for beginners and lower intermediate (JLPT N5 to N4). I can also offer conversation practice for upper intermediate to advance levels. I'm very patient and enthusiastic teacher who tailors each lesson for the individual depending on the students interests and goals.

I mainly use a text book called Genki in my lessons which covers reading, writing, speaking and listening. The most difficult areas of Japanese language learning tends to be reading and writing, but I would like focus more towards listening and speaking. Although you need to know the Japanese alphabets of Hiragana and Katakana to be able to understand accurate pronunciations, isn't it more fun and motivated if you would be able to pick up some Japanese thorough movie, anime and songs you like!

I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester researching materials for applications to nuclear fusion. I am deeply passionate about my subject, although I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea! I try my hardest to help my students increase their confidence, enjoyment of the subject and, of course, their grades.

My students have had great successes: my first student climbed 2 and 3 grades in their English GCSEs, passing them and allowing them to move on to sixth form without resits; another student achieved 8s in both English GCSEs, way higher than expected, and climbed grades over time in Maths; whilst another student also passed GCSE English Literature first time, with a Grade 4, well above his initial starting grade when we began tutoring.

My secondary school experience includes time as a full-time Cover Supervisor (March - July 2017), full-time Learning Support Assistant including sole teaching of KS3 SEN Literacy classes (September 2017 to July 2018), as well as supply LSA, Cover Supervisor and Exam Invigilator work.
