| Personal Description: I have had a passion for physics since Year 9 at school, deciding then I wanted to study to degree level. Once completing my masters degree I worked in industry for 3 years doign blue sky research for BAE SYSTEMS. I decided that, whilst the intellectual rewards were great, I wanted to work more closely with people which prompted my move into teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught physics for four years at a high achieving private school in Coventry. I have experience teaching a range of abilities: from straight A students to students struggling on the D/E borderline. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe students progress best when they are confident to give problem solving a go. As a tutor I will go through the theory with tutees but my prime focus will always be how we apply that theory in practice. I expect tutees to be willing to make mistakes whilst working on problems with me so I can see where the flaws in their understanding are and help them correct them. I will also expect tutees to submit work for me to look at outside of our sessions so I can assess their progress. |

| Personal Description: Presently I work part-time as a legal adviser with Citizen's Advice Bureau and will begin training as a solicitor in 2010, having graduated with a 2.1 LLB law degree. I have strong communication skills and interpersonal skills, which give me the ability to relate well to others. I turned to tutoring due to my interest in law, alongside the opportunity to offer valuable support to students as I find it rewarding. |
Teaching Experience: I have over six years experience in teaching law and have taught the full spectrum of A-level law to small groups of students and on a one-to-one basis. After having graduated I have gained experience in teaching degree level students and providing valuable support with course work and exams. I have been praised by previous students I have taught for helping enhance their marks by over two grades. |
Tutoring Approach: I deliver clear subject knowledge of legal principles in plain English with a unique approach, which focuses on exactly what the student needs to do to gain high marks in the exam. Ultimately, the key to success in A-Level law is exam technique. Therefore, my teaching methods are related to useful exam tips together with comprehensive assistance in answering exam questions. Previous students have described me as a excellent tutor in helping with their understanding of law and exam technique. |

| Personal Description: I am 19 years old. I am friendly, lively, outgoing but also listen carefully and I'm very hard working. I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate studying at University College London in Central London in joint honours French and Russian. I have tutored successfully for the last three years. I have got a wide range of GCSEs and 5 Alevels. Before university I studied at Skipton Girls' and so had to sit the entrance exams. I am approachable and try to make whichever subject I tutor fun and enjoyable as I found my studies! I really enjoy working and also learning with my tutees as everyone has their own ideas to express. |
Teaching Experience: I tutored during sixth form years to year 10s and year 11s. My major successes were to enable students working at a grade D level to finally achieve As in their final literature exams. When I came to university I again entered into tutoring. I have worked with primary school children teaching maths and english at KS2 level and also basic reading and writing strategies. Further to this I worked in Holland Park School in Notting Hill with a group of Year 11s tutoring English Literature at GCSE level. I find tutoring exciting and extremely rewarding when I see points have finally been grasped and the student can now communicate what they had locked up in their minds. As I did very essay based subjects and still continue on this track I can help with basic ideas of essay structuring and approach to exams. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe learning is a very individual thing and I listen to what the student finds the hardest and supply ideas of how to tackle these problems. I prefer a laid back style to tutoring as I feel learning should be enjoyable. However I always get the work and my plans for the session done. I like to have some fun and create a healthy relationship with the people I tutor. When the student does not want me there or I do not want to go to work the learning process is heavil impeded and progress cannot be made. Our aims and goals are the same it is just finding the right path there! |

| Personal Description: I am 25 years old, approachable and very patient. I like to keep fit by playing sports such as football and badminton. I enjoy going to the cinema with friends. |
Teaching Experience: I graduated in 2005 from The University of Birmingham, obtaining BSci in Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics. I'm a Professionally Qualified Teacher (QTS), teaching Mathematics in Secondary's and tutoring students from Primary (KS2) up to A-Level. I also have experience of tutoring Literacy to Primary school children. My teaching experiences have given me the expertise to teach a variety of children; I feel comfortable teaching pupils who have mild special educational needs (SEN) or who are gifted and talented (G&T). |
Tutoring Approach: I have produced my own schemes of work that are tailored to suit the needs of individuals based on their ability and not their age. I feel that this approach to teaching mathematics not only encourages a child to strive to achieve higher, but also keeps them challenged and engaged. I run small group sessions, encouraging team work and creative thinking. I try to base my teaching around "real-life" context so that children find topics easier to understand. Homework is set every lesson lasting approximately one hour. I would finally like to add that my approach is based around ensuring pupils understand the core concepts of mathematics, hence short term "quick-fixes" are avoided. Taking a medium to long-term approach to support your Childs needs always provides better results in the long term. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask. :) |

| Personal Description: I moved to Sheffield from Bristol in 2002 to begin my undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield. I am currently nearly halfway through a PhD in contemporary literature. I live in Nether Edge and would need to discuss travel arrangements for students living outside the S7, S10 and S11 areas. |
Teaching Experience: My main area of teaching experience has been at the University, where I taught first-year undergraduates a wide range of texts from Renaissance drama to contemporary poetry in the autumn term 08/09. I have also particpated in a teaching practice course run by faculty members in the Department of English Literature, as well as a conference at the University of York on teaching literature and a peer mentoring scheme in conjunction with other postgraduates in the Department. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a flexible, student-centred approach to one-on-one tutoring. I only offer tutoring in the subject that I am qualified in to higher degree level, and I can also provide information on studying English at University, including UCAS personal statement and interview advice. Communication between the tutor and the student is essential for a succesful relationship. Before an initial meeting, I would like to know which texts the student is currently working on and their expectations from the tutoring relationship. Private tuition does not guarantee exam grades and my primary aim in offering tuition is to help in fostering an understanding and appreciation of literature that should lead to increased enthusiasm for the subject! |

Teaching Experience: I have taught students whilst at university on nautical subjects. I was Team Captain and Treasurer in my Riding Club at university as well as a member of my university's Sub Aqua Club, both of which involved me leading and teaching groups in their respective area of learning, as well as training further in each subject at the same time.
