Personal Description:
I am a 37 year old tutor based in Lewes. For the past fifteen years I have been teaching pupils of all ages and abilities in many different capacities and have an excellent success rate with my pupils.

I also work with children with MLD & behavioural challenges as with adults of all ages and nationalities.

Should you wish to use me, you would encounter a tutor easy to relate to and learn from in an enjoyable and easy environment. I believe a student who is at ease with their tutor is far more likely to progress no matter where they are starting from!

Some reviews from previous parents:

"Rob tutored our son for a few months in preparation for 11+ exams and has been amazing at it! Although we have now stopped the lessons due to moving country, we have seen great progress in our son's abilities. Rob has been very methodical and able to recognise our son's weak areas and work on them. He particularly helped our son in his creative writing tasks! We couldn't recommend Rob more. We would be reaching out to him again if we need to in the future." (Katia and her 10 yr old son Max Secondary Entrance Exams)

"Rob has been my tutor for AS AQA Drama Theory for nearly three months now and I am thrilled with the progress I have made thanks to our lessons. Rob is an encouraging and engaging teacher and his lessons have allowed me to improve from a grade C to consistent A's in a fraction of time. I cannot recommend him enough for anyone who is looking for a one to one tutor in order to boost their grades." (Kate, 18, A-Level Drama Resit)

"Excellent work in preparing my daughter for her 11+ entrance exam (English and Math). Knowledgeable, great in explaining and keeping her interested in the subjects. Great manner and dedication, always punctual and extreamely reliable. Would not wish for a different tutor in this important time for our daughter" (Davorin and his 10 yr old daughter Sana, City of London School entrance examinations)

"Rob tutored my daughter for GCSE English. She found these sessions hugely helpful and enjoyed them even. At the time of writing this she does not have her results but she she is certainly more confident than she ever has been. Rob was very reliable and punctual. I would whole heartily recommend him as an English tutor." (Deborah and her 16 yr old daughter Yael who struggled with dyslexia, GCSE English. Yael went up from a predicted D to a B)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe one to one private tuition requires a tutor who can adapt to the needs of the pupil. I would wish to meet the pupil initially to establish how they may best be assisted and what the pupil's key areas of concern are. Each mind, young or old, needs different approaches and I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs and requirements of every student.

My approach, in most cases would be to follow a curriculum, finding out where their difficulties lie within this curriculum and how it would be best to resolve them.

I tend to use past papers when it comes to exam based tuition as this is ultimately what they will be faced with come exam time! However, when I have a pupil for longer there is more scope for more imaginative teaching or simply assistance with difficult homework.

With each of my previous pupils I have needed and been able to assist them in a way that is individually appealing to them and I have never had a pupil who has not achieved their desired results.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and committed teacher and enjoy teaching all subjects, in particular maths and literacy. I strive to make learning interactive and fun for children and get a lot of satisfaction from helping children to achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher and work mainly with 7-11 year olds. Prior to qualifying I worked for several years as a teaching assistant, often working on a one-to-one basis with children. I have a good range of teaching methods which I use to help children develop their knowledge and learning skills. I am able to build strong relationships with children, encouraging and leading them to become confident, independent learners. In addition to primary teaching I also have experience of teaching GCSE maths and level 2 adult maths.

Tutoring Approach:

All children are individuals and learn in different ways. I would undertake an initial assessment for your child and tailor lessons accordingly. I will always look at what children can do and work with them to discover the gaps in their knowledge and any misconceptions they may have. I feel it is important to set achievable targets and build up children's confidence in their own abilities. Linking the teaching of literacy and maths to other subjects and real life situations makes learning more meaningful to children.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in German and Drama and I work in theatre and film as a freelance set and costume designer and also as a freelance translator (English and German).
I'm from London but lived in Germany for 4 years. I enjoy learning languages, cooking, reading, cycling, and going to the theatre and cinema. I am currently based in Bristol where I am studying for an MA.

Teaching Experience:

I enjoy teaching and have mentored students at various levels, mainly in German or English as a foreign language. I worked as an English teacher in Germany, teaching English as a foreign language to children and teenagers of all levels from 7-17 years old. I have up to date knowledge of the curriculum for GCSE German.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an open and student-based approach to tutoring - you decide what and how you want to learn. I provide guidance, advice and subject knowledge and offer feedback on how you can improve what you already know, as well as the way you learn, to help you learn more independently. I only teach subjects I'm passionate about and believe in enjoying yourself while learning.

Feel free to contact me for further information!

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old who is currently working at RWS translations group in Chalfont St Peter. I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2.1 BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian). I also studied Spanish up to 2nd year. I enjoy speaking different languages and try to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to others.

Teaching Experience:

My third year at University was spent abroad. I chose to teach in France for 7 months in two primary schools which I very much enjoyed. I loved to chat to the children and try to get them to see the importance of learning English. I also au-paired for three months in Italy during my Year Abroad, which involved private lessons with a 7 year old. I have also previously tutored French, which included exam preparation, focusing on problematic areas and improving confidence. I understand how difficult languages can be, I believe I can sympathise with the student. The lesson must be fun and the student needs to understand the importance of learning a language, in order to be enthusiastic about it.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe languages are crucial in education. Throughout university I took part in Routes into Languages, a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. This role involved planning taster classes for small groups, introducing a new language into their education and broadening their knowledge of the world and different cultures. I particularly enjoyed this role as I was enable to communicate the importance of languages and perhaps inspire some of the children to carry languages on past year 9.

Personal Description:
I am married with a daughter at university and a son at college. I am interested in many different things, from sports to wildlife. I think I am friendly and fun, and because I have tried learning foreign languages myself, am sympathetic towards my students needs!

Teaching Experience:

I have actually taught TEFL for about 10 years (and have been in the TEFL business for much longer, publishing books for TEFL). I have worked in Japan, Egypt and Spain and also taught at the IH Executive School in Piccadilly, London. Since 2009 I have specialised in teaching 1:1, all types of students, from young learners to senior business people.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find out what the student wants and needs and then to try to give it to them in a logical and effective way. I try to make the lessons varied, interesting and relevant. The aim is always to help the student get closer to achieving their language goals.

Personal Description:
My name is Alexander and I am a Physics, Maths and Theory of Knowledge teacher, until recently working in London at The Godolphin and Latymer School, a prestigious independent school. i recently successfully completed a full-time PhD in Cosmology at Queen Mary, University of London.
My current research is into Dark Energy and Dark Matter and the effect these have on the formation of structure within the universe.

I am also a published author.

Teaching Experience:

I have over fourteen years of teaching experience, in GCSE, iGCSE, A-level, International Baccalaureate Standard and Higher level Physics and also International Baccalaureate Theory of Knowledge. Consequently I have a substantial array of teaching resources, practice questions and answers and experience of seeing the difficulties of students and helping them better access concepts and solve problems in these disciplines. Additionally, my research is highly mathematical in nature and I am currently tutoring in calculus and other related courses for the mathematics undergraduates at Queen Mary, as well as astrophysics courses for the Physics undergraduates. As such I can also offer A-level and IB Maths tutoring if required. I also teach Primary level Maths to year 5 and 6 pupils part time in preparation for 11+ and school entrance exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I am based in Crystal Palace and will happily travel to students within a reasonable distance in central and greater London. Alternatively, it is possible to organise sessions in mutually convenient central London locations which I have access to, for example Queen Mary University library. I feel it is important to have full details of the syllabus a particular student is following prior to the first tutoring session so that the sessions can be tailored as specifcally as possible to the individual student and so time is not wasted in a given session.

Personal Description:
After spending some time working in the IT industry, including a spell being practically a one-man IT department for a small business, I discovered a love of - and I like to think a knack for - guiding and supporting the learning of others through teaching and training. Initially this was in the IT/Computer Science fields, but more recently I have diversified into Maths. Seeing the "lightbulb moment", when a learner finally conquers a problem, is an undoubted highlight of my job. Away from teaching, I am a music buff, and I also love to discover new places and meet new people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching professionally as a college lecturer since 2007 and privately since 2014, teaching Maths at KS3 and GCSE level, and IT from KS3 to BTEC Level 3. While I love the 'cut and thrust' of a classroom, I find private tuition to be particularly rewarding - being able to devote more time to each learner can make a real difference to those who might otherwise get overlooked in a large class, and only serves to increase yet further the satisfaction in seeing them succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

I can readily adapt teaching styles to fit the needs of individual learners. I recognise the importance of having a Plan B and trying different approaches to suit different learning styles. Learner input is more than welcome on this. If you know what techniques work well for you, feel free to let me know!

I am also a firm believer that successful learning depends on four main factors - hard work, willingness, perseverance and self-belief. Students often have plenty of the first three, but may lack a little of the latter. I see my role as being about encouragement as well as teaching, so as well as offering support and guidance, I will also encourage you to have confidence in your ability. Believe that you CAN succeed, and it becomes much more likely that you WILL.

Personal Description:
A down to earth individual who is passionate about teaching and helping people to maximise their intellectual potential. I have been in the teaching industry for five years starting off as a Teaching Assistant. I worked with students that came from a diverse background including pupils with special needs, English as an additional language, as well as gifted and talented which provided me with a wealth of knowledge as to how to approach and interact with people.

I have studied Law at University and then studied Masters at a renowned University. I was unable to teach Law at the school that I worked for as the subject was not available.

Currently, I am taking a break from teaching as I have a six month old baby however, I do not want to completely stop teaching hence I am available to offer my tutoring services during evenings and weekends.

Teaching Experience:

As a result of being a Teaching Assistant, the role inspired me to become a qualified teacher. I started teaching from 2014 when I embarked upon the PGCE course specialising in Business Studies at Secondary.

I taught Business at GCSE, BTEC and A level.
In addition, I delivered the Institute of Financial Studies to post sixteen students.
I have experience teaching at a Grammar school and mainstream schools which are diverse but equally challenging.

During my University days, I helped out law students who were struggling with assignsmemts and those lacking the legal content.

Tutoring Approach:

Students describe me as a fun and an interactive teacher. Each student is different and therefore in order to meet their needs, it is vital to tailor the level of teaching in order to help students understand.

As a young and modern teacher, I believe it's important to make teaching enjoyable. I deliver tutoring through PowerPoints, interactive quizzes and I focus highly on exam techniques. This includes working with past exam papers, mark schemes and examiner reports in order to demonstrate to students how to maximise marks and ultimately better results.

Personal Description:
I am originally from the USA and have spent many years abroad, including living in Germany and Belgium. I am now settled in the UK as a German teacher at a nationally top-ranked secondary school. As a teenager, I spent an entire year as an exchange student in Germany, having been awarded the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship. I have two dogs and love taking long walks with them in the beautiful English countryside at the weekends. And of course, I jet off to Germany as often as I can!

Teaching Experience:

I started my teaching career as a Music Teacher in both primary and secondary schools. After six years in Music, I decided to retrain as a German teacher. I can boast that 96% of my most recent cohort were awarded A*-C at GCSE German. Alongside this, I have completed recent exam board-specific training (AQA and Edexcel) on how to attain top marks, including a 9, at GCSE.

My students would tell you that I make German accessible, interesting and fun. Recent comments from this year include:
"Because of you, I've fallen even more in love with Deutsch; it has been so great to have a teacher with such a passion for German."
"I would absolutely never have thought that I would end up taking German A-Level, but thanks to your support and fun lessons, I've grown to love the language."

Tutoring Approach:

During my lunch break at school, I am rarely to be found in the staff room; instead, I am offering one-to-one support with my students or organising peer mentoring sessions for additional support in German. This careful, tailored approach to the specific strengths and weaknesses for each individual student is what I practice every day in my career, and this is also exactly how I approach my private tutoring sessions.
