Personal Description:
Hello,
I have just completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I also have an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I gained straight Firsts in every module I studied. I also have a good Fine Art degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. I have been a private tutor for twelve years, and have taught many children in that time.

I am currently tutoring in the North London area, including Tottenham and Enfield. I am also offering Creative Writing courses for children in the Sutton area during the school holidays.

I'm a 41 year old lady, and am an aunt, godmother and childminder to several children.

I would also like to offer the tutoring services of my colleague, who will also be working in the Tottenham area. His specialist area is history, that is, 15th century history onwards, with special knowledge of 17th, 19th and 20th century British history. He is fully able to provide support with GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate syllabuses, with a BA Hons and an MA in Political History.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at undergraduate level at university as well as writing skills in an academic skills centre. I have also taught SATs to thirteen year olds. I have a PTTLs degree level 4 qualification and taught on an Access Course to adult learners. For GCSE, I have a 75 per cent success rate of my students achieving As and A*s. My other students, whose first language may not be English, achieve Bs.

I have taught AQA, OCR and EDEXCEL syllabuses at GCSE and AQA at A-Level.

Please note that I do not teach any Eleven-Plus or verbal reasoning syllabuses and that I prefer to teach older children (13 plus)

Tutoring Approach:

I use creative writing exercises with my students to allow them to develop their writing skills, as well as their creativity and imagination. This approach has been very successful with my SATs pupils. I also use past exam papers, model essays, and devote time and attention to close reading of set texts at GCSE and A-Level. I have also recently branched out into giving art lessons and I helped out at an arts and crafts club at the local school.

I can also provide Skype lessons and find this has been successful with older and university level students.

I have a friendly, professional approach and find I develop a real rapport with my pupils, who find their results and confidence improving with my tutelage.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate from Bristol University with a Masters Degree in Mathematics, specialising in Applied Mathematics and in particular, Quantum Mechanics. I am patient and friendly, and keen to pass on my enthusiasm for the subject.
I am an avid musician and devote much of my spare time to playing piano and guitar, both of which I play in my band. I am also a big fan of going to gigs/festivals, barbeques, playing sport and hanging out with friends.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a private tutor since September 2011 and have had a great deal of success, the most recent of which including students being accepted to study at both Oxford and Cambridge, all of my A-Level students achieving A/A* grades, and a mature student whom I taught Further Maths from scratch has received an offer and is now studying Physics at Surrey University.
I taught in a school in Bristol as part of my studies which included a lesson a week whereby I taught algebra to a group of students from Somalia with very limited English skills. I have also spent 3 weeks teaching and assisting in a local school in Guildford.
I have worked with students of all abilities and so am able to pitch my explanations at the appropriate level for the student, and have been praised for my ability to provide clear and concise explanations, and my friendly approach to teaching. I am young, enthusiastic and experienced in exam preparation and revision techniques.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer teaching Maths by explaining concepts at a fundamental level, following up with well-worked examples of the theory in action. This is because in my experience, to understand something properly you need to understand not only where it came from but how it's properly applied.
I normally draw up sheets with all the vital information about a topic for the student so that they have something they can refer to quickly to find what they need. In the past I have set a few problems for the student to do in between lessons and we would then look at them together the following week, and of course I am happy to go through problems together that the student is struggling with.

Personal Description:
A Master of Mathematics graduate from UEA in Norwich, with a year studying in Melbourne Australia. I have great experience tutoring with various age groups and personalities.

I have enjoyed tutoring part time and full time for the past few years whilst learning a Postgraduate Diploma course since University. I was subsequently contracted in by a local college to provide individual and group tutoring sessions to underachieving students, during and after school.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring GCSE maths in Year 13, providing a very structured learning by my school. The students engaged well and it helped to have people of a similar age that the students could relate to, enabling a more relaxed learning atmosphere. I also informally helped peers of various levels whilst at university, maths students but also engineering and foundation levels. When my services were required in a particular area, then they asked for help on short notice.

On top of this I've been tutoring over the past 4 years, usually working 7 days a week from the new year onward. Peak hours ranged in excess of 40hrs of tutoring for several months. I've therefore assessed the likely weaknesses of a student and have already provided and perfected methods of explanation.

Tutoring Approach:

Can look at casual tutoring of areas of difficulty, or can do more structured learning of a curriculum, either intense learning or weekly troubleshooting. I've established good quality material for any level. Plenty of students just require good material and direction for their efforts.

The first meeting will be free with the aim of getting to know one another and the strengths and weaknesses of the tutee, and at what pace the student requires. At which point a structured plan of action can be drawn up. In some cases the tutee may lack the confidence in areas, but can in fact do what's required. Even a casual troubleshooting session every now and then can set their worries at rest.

Should extracurricular material be required or wanted then I'll be happy to provide. This material might not be hard for the tutee, but will help link in various areas of mathematics and will require a little thought about the patterns seen.

My current timetable (free to book anytime other than between the times below, already accounted for travel time):
Mondays: booked 5pm onward
Tuesdays: booked 3.30pm - 8pm
Wednesdays: booked 3.30pm onward
Thurdsays: booked 5.30pm onward

Saturdays: free between 3pm - 5.30pm

Personal Description:
I am a Spanish enthusiast. I lived and worked in Madrid, Spain and am able to enthuse and inform my pupils with regards to living in Spain, the Spanish people, what it's like to work in Spain and hope that my pupils go away from my lessons with a sense of the character of Spain.

I am Married, a Mother with 2 children (15 and 18), and have my own recruitment business. I also tutor because I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience and gain satisfaction from seeing pupils progress.

Teaching Experience:

I am not a 'qualified' teacher but one through experience. I have qualifications as a Secretarial Linguist. I am a fluent Spanish speaker and my lessons have quite a strong discussion element to them. I have taught adults and GCSE students over the past 20 years, and my successes have been many, but particularly bringing GCSE students successfully through their revision stage and adults gaining more confidence in their spoken Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a combination of fun and work. I expect commitment from my students, but also I like to pass on my enthusiasm for Spain and hope that my lessons are enjoyable, not just a hard slog! We speak in Spanish for the majority of the lesson, and I encourage students to 'immerse' themselves into Spain i.e. we have access these days to Spanish radio, Spanish TV. There is absolutely no reason not to use these to the full. I encourage socialising between students where possible also, i.e. Tapas visit/evening or introducing my Spanish friends to them so that they can practise their language skills.

Personal Description:
I am an Imperial College graduate in Biomedical Engineering (masters).
Being born in Italy from Italian parents, I'm a native Italian speaker. I have lived in the UK since I was 6 years old, I attended the European School in Culham, near Oxford, before moving to London for university.
I am a friendly and outgoing person, when I'm not busy with uni work I like to be in the company of friends, enjoy cinema, live music and playing/watching sports, particularly football and squash.

Teaching Experience:

Over my first two years at university, I helped some As and A-level students from my old school, especially during their exam period (i.e.: one on one revision sessions, helping out with coursework and writing sets of revision notes) in Maths, Biology and Physics.
Early in 2011 I joined the Blue Tutors agency, where my teaching skills were assessed and received full accreditation.
In October 2013 I did weekly one-on-one GCSE maths lessons for the month leading up to an exam. As well as the lessons I made revision notes for the student, whose mark increased from C- to B.
From January to April 2014 I was Project Coordinator and voluntary teacher in weekly extra curricular activity "Code Club", a basic computer programming workshop at Pimlico Academy. Generally about a dozen 13-14 year old students attended.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is generally quite friendly: I believe that at a subconscious level, a student will be much more inclined to listen to and learn from a person they trust and appreciate. However, I also believe the teaching style must be suited to the student, and largely depends on the subject being taught.
A particular technique which I have learnt from Blue Tutors and have tried to implement ever since, is to try and lead the student to the answer by asking the right questions, rather than just giving him the answer.

Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, fun and experienced tutor. I believe a healthy dose of humour and kindness is important when teaching and I am a very professional and hard working person.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year old Forensic Science graduate and currently work in a local secondary school within the food department. For the last 6 years I worked within another secondary school as a teaching assistant so I have a vast knowledge of the school system.
I really have a passion for teaching and feel this comes across in everything I do as I am involved in many activities outside of work such as girlguiding and international camps. My goal in life is to become a secondary school teacher and help students achieve success.
I am very family orientated and really love to see people achieve everything they set out to do. My motto is never give up, determination to succeed will always mean we achieve great things.

Teaching Experience:

I now work in a food department in a local secondary school where I help plan and run engaging food lessons. Prior to this I have been a teaching assistant for 6 years in which I ran my own small groups in English and science. I also engaged students in a reading club and continued to build on my teaching style. Before my time as a teaching assistant I was a laboratory technician in the same school. I helped plan and execute practicals on science lessons and ensured the smooth running of the science department which continued to build on my scientific knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on helping people of all ages achieve their goals and firmly believe education is vital to success. I believe in being firm but fair and that a calm and positive manner will always ensure excessive achievement and success.
I believe in building students up not tearing them down. Every success is a step forward and it's my job to ensure they keep moving forward by using different learning styles and finding the best way for them to learn effectively in a safe and calm environment.
