I would want to go along with the pace that is comfortable for you, please give me feedback on whether the lesson is going too slowly/fast.

For the sciences and math:
I would start with the topic of your choice, giving full explaination of what it involves and have a chat to clear out any questions you might have.

Then I would send some exercise questions which I would mark and return with feedback.

Following that, I would like to start a chat so that I can do an informal quiz to go through the subject; to find out what you now know and what else you need to know.

For Japanese language:
Every week I would start with a word document describing a grammar point, and I would describe fully on how to use it. I would give a range of vocabulary that can be used alongside the grammar to be memorized for the particular lesson. After a sufficient time ( decided by you) I would want to start a chat to answer any questions you have.

Following that, I would give some exercises to be completed, and I would mark it and mail it back with some feedback.

In addition to that, I will be available to chat in Japanese to practice what you have learn so far.

(I would be glad to give pointers on how to type Japanese in the computer)

I am Scottish, recently moved to England, aged 24 and male. I am casual and informal, but I do things properly. I am mainly into rock and heavy metal music, from artists/bands such as Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nightwish, Dream Evil and plenty more however I do like a mixture of a music from pop to classical. Some music in the background can be good to relax us.

My particular skills and interests are Object Orientated Programming with languages such as C/C++ and Java. I can also help with related topics such as creating documents and reports (design, requirements, etc).

Teaching Experience:
I tutored at University. Whilst in 3rd year I helped a 2nd year direct entrance student to learn C++. He got over 70% in his final exam. Obviously this took effort on both parts, but I think my approach of learning the basics and building up definitely helped.

I am also a Software Engineer, so although this isn't teaching experience it is very real and the code I write is/will be in everyday use.

Tutoring Approach:
I am relaxed and prefer an informal approach. That's not to say I will waste time, but it means you can learn new skills and concepts whilst possibly enjoying yourself rather than feeling like you need to have your head down typing 100%!

With any student I will first workout the level the student is at before continuing - I see little point in discussing more advanced topics before the basics are well understood.

I think the best methods to learn are by example and by practise. I will answer questions as best I can, if I don't know the answer I will find out and explain it. If a student has problems with an exercise/coursework then we will start from the beginning to ensure each step is understood.

It should be worth noting that as I am a Software Engineer in "real life" you will also benefit from a real and commercial approach. This is of particular relevance to University students who may shortly find themselves in a proper job.

my tutoring depends on the needs of the tutee.
Some people need to improve their spoken skills whereas some can spek a good level of French but might need more grammatical practice.

I have successfully coached many students through their graduation recital preparation/performance material at High School and University level on all brass instruments and for improvisation/jazz theory.

I mainly work in the jazz genre but have on many occasions been called upon to work as a tutor/mentor for students edging towards exams/recitals. I am in my first year of University but during college I worked in a Primary School in London for 2 days per week. I have also previously tutored maths to a 10 year old approaching her SATs tests, and will be in schools taking some lesssons as from November 2008.

Tutoring Approach:
I find tutored sessions need to be focused but relaxed to maintain a child's interest without them feeling forced to be there. I think it's important to set some homework, but not too much, so the child continues to go over ideas until the next session.

My approach to tutoring is about the visualisation of each question, where just the answer is not enough, but the process to get there is the important part.
