| About Cas: I'm a enthusiastic and friendly Masters student, who loves reading, discussing and sharing knowledge with others. |
Teaching Experience: I have varied tutoring experience, working with 11-year-olds to adult beginners. I have also taught abroad, working in Paris in a secondary school with pupils aged 18-23. I have been tutoring for several years now, and love working on a one-to-one basis. |

| About Joseph: I am 53 years old and have spent all of my adult life living abroad. I recently returned to England after living 9 years in France, 15 years in California, 8 years in Cuba and 2 years in Ecuador. My partner is Cuban so any Spanish classes could also involve I bring with me the experience and colour of living in very different countries and systems. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught TEFL in registered language schools in San Francisco, California and also in Cuenca, Ecuador. My students were all adults in post-graduate studies. I have tutored both Spanish and French conversation. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer to teach one on one because of the rapid progress a student makes to the satisfaction of tutor and student alike. I myself learned Spanish this way before going on to study the language in college. Because of the nature of our society today, I would prefer to teach anyone under 16 at their home with one of their parents in the house. |

| About sheelagh: I am a middle aged lady who is good at encouraging unconfident learners because I am kind. I am very enthusiastic about the English language, culture and literature and I try to impart this enthusiasm to my students. I try to incorporate practical activities into my lessons if possible. For example, when I was teaching my students to use the imperative form for instructions, I made a trifle with them, kept it in the fridge overnight, asked them to decorate it the next day and then we shared it with another class. |
Teaching Experience: Mixed secondary school - one year teaching English to 11-16 year olds Comprehensive school - five years teaching Business Studies and Shorthand to 14-18 year olds. I taught Shorthhand at evening classes to adults for one year. I taught ESOL to asylum seekers, refugees and foreign students for five years. |
Tutoring Approach: Friendly and positive. I try to make it enjoyable and relevant and to choose topics that interest individual students whenever possible. I use games, puzzles, songs and authentic material which I adapt as well as the standard textbooks. I learn a lot from the students and I am constantly revising my ideas, methods and approach as a result of this. |

View Diana's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Online
| About Diana: I am a medical student in my clinical years. I am very passionate about teaching, and my greatest joy is in seeing people making an improvement on subjects that they need more help in. I am patient and determined to work hard. I have completed 4 GCSE A levels in singapore, and I have scored As for those. I love sciences and maths, and the only thing I love more than them is teaching them. I have been taking Japanese course and have reached pre-advance level. Due to time constrain I have yet to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), but based on my estimation, I am ready to take JLPTII. |
Teaching Experience: My teaching experience lies on teaching my friends and family members. |
Tutoring Approach: I would want to go along with the pace that is comfortable for you, please give me feedback on whether the lesson is going too slowly/fast. (I would always be available to answer any questions regarding the subjects, just drop me a mail) For the sciences and math: I would start with the topic of your choice, giving full explaination of what it involves and have a chat to clear out any questions you might have. Then I would send some exercise questions which I would mark and return with feedback. Following that, I would like to start a chat so that I can do an informal quiz to go through the subject; to find out what you now know and what else you need to know. For Japanese language: Every week I would start with a word document describing a grammar point, and I would describe fully on how to use it. I would give a range of vocabulary that can be used alongside the grammar to be memorized for the particular lesson. After a sufficient time ( decided by you) I would want to start a chat to answer any questions you have. Following that, I would give some exercises to be completed, and I would mark it and mail it back with some feedback. In addition to that, I will be available to chat in Japanese to practice what you have learn so far. (I would be glad to give pointers on how to type Japanese in the computer) |

View Callum's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Callum: I am Scottish, recently moved to England, aged 24 and male. I am casual and informal, but I do things properly. I am mainly into rock and heavy metal music, from artists/bands such as Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nightwish, Dream Evil and plenty more however I do like a mixture of a music from pop to classical. Some music in the background can be good to relax us. My particular skills and interests are Object Orientated Programming with languages such as C/C++ and Java. I can also help with related topics such as creating documents and reports (design, requirements, etc). |
Teaching Experience: I tutored at University. Whilst in 3rd year I helped a 2nd year direct entrance student to learn C++. He got over 70% in his final exam. Obviously this took effort on both parts, but I think my approach of learning the basics and building up definitely helped. I am also a Software Engineer, so although this isn't teaching experience it is very real and the code I write is/will be in everyday use. |
Tutoring Approach: I am relaxed and prefer an informal approach. That's not to say I will waste time, but it means you can learn new skills and concepts whilst possibly enjoying yourself rather than feeling like you need to have your head down typing 100%! With any student I will first workout the level the student is at before continuing - I see little point in discussing more advanced topics before the basics are well understood. I think the best methods to learn are by example and by practise. I will answer questions as best I can, if I don't know the answer I will find out and explain it. If a student has problems with an exercise/coursework then we will start from the beginning to ensure each step is understood. It should be worth noting that as I am a Software Engineer in "real life" you will also benefit from a real and commercial approach. This is of particular relevance to University students who may shortly find themselves in a proper job. |

| About Maria Pilar: I am an enthusiatic and dedicated individual who puts 100% effort into any task. I enjoy being active and am always looking to develop my knowledge and learn more skills. It is important to me to be organised and disciplined as this helps to be more efficient and not waste time. Naturally patient, I am very fair and have an understanding nature and these qualities allow me to enjoy my teaching roles to the full |
Teaching Experience: Having left school in 1998 I became a "freetime instructor" at summer camp. After leaving university in 2003, I worked in England for 6 months to help develop my English. I was employed as an English teacher at The English Summer School from Apr 2004 to Sept 2004. Between Oct 2004 and March 2005 I worked as a freetime instructor at a Primary School in my home city of Valencia. Apr 2005 - Sept 2005 saw me return to the English summer school. From Nov 2005 to Dec 2005 I visited Reading, England to further develop my langauge skills. In Feb 2006 I worked as a primary school supply teacher in Valencia. From Apr 2006 to Feb 2007 I was employed as a teacher in Valencia covering all subjects. |

View Emilie's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Emilie: I am a French native speaker. I have lived in England for 5 years where I worked as a French Assistant and as a Language Teacher after having obtained my teaching degree. I have moved to Edinburgh recently. I would describe myself as enthusiastic, creative and hard working I love discovering new places and learning new languages. I love going out with my friends, going to the cinema (especially asian movies) |
Teaching Experience: From October 2001 until May 2003 I was a French assistant in secondary schools in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. I helped pupils to improve their spoken French. From September 2004 until August 2006, I taught in a secondary school in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. I taught French and Spanish to pupils aged 11 to 18. I enjoyed teaching the smaller ones because they are very enthusiastic about learning someting new. However, I prefer GCSE and A-Levels as they have more vocabulary and therefore it is easier to have a conversation with them. I am currently tutoring a 13 year old pupil who feels that she doesn't learn enough at school. |
Tutoring Approach: my tutoring depends on the needs of the tutee. Some people need to improve their spoken skills whereas some can spek a good level of French but might need more grammatical practice. I do the tutoring only speaking French. It might seem scary but my previous tutees found it very useful because they got used to the words. I have several textbooks some for beginners, some for more advanced levels. I create my own resources as well. I usually practise the 4 skills : listening, speaking, reading and writing but again if the tutee want to concentrate on only one I can do that as well. |

| About Cristiane: I have been tutoring Portuguese Language for more than 13 years and also writing articles for magazines on the subject of language acquisition. I work in London and Essex area and would be glad to meet you for a chat in case you are interested in starting learning the language. |
Teaching Experience: I am used to all sorts of students, from any background and it is my pleasure to help people mastering in a foreign language. |
Tutoring Approach: When it comes to make a tailored course, I take this philosophy very seriously and no material and course plan is the same as students needs are different and most of all, the speed one wants to have during the classes are also very personal. I am writing my own material and every now and then I make use of some of the chapters I have already prepared as a complement to the course book we choose to use as our class work backbone. I use videos, music, flashcards and lots of cultural awareness too. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Gregory: I am an engaged and professional Redlands based Maths tutor, willing to teach G.C.S.E and AS/A2 Level. I have a real passion for Maths which I have continued to study at Bristol University, and want to encourage other people in this much maligned, and often badly taught subject. I am willing to travel to most of Bristol, or if easier for the student teach at my own house in Redlands, and can set up sessions in the evenings and weekends, or certain parts of the day if convenient. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored for around 2 years, helping people through their AS/A2 Level exams. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is about the visualisation of each question, where just the answer is not enough, but the process to get there is the important part. I think this is something that is often missed out when Maths is taught traditionally, and is congruent with the experiences I've had with previous students. |
