About Emma:
I am a student at Brunel University studying financial mathematics, I have taught many of my family and friends and am always helping around exam time. I enjoy teaching children and have found that if you give some children a chance to think without rushing them it works wonders.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught many students at GCSE level in mathematics, have taught basic french to students and also alot of family friends and family.

Tutoring Approach:

I make teaching fun, I interact games (especially for younger students) so that they catch on quicker without noticing that they are learning. I also encourage my students to do a little bit of homework for me each week (only about half an hours worth as i know that they have their own school work to do) but this does stop them forgetting what they have learnt the week before.

I also like to interact the parents in sitting and learning with their children (if the parents wish to) so that the work does not seem like such a chore but like a family activity with games.

About Ellie:
I have recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class degree in Music. I achieved 5 A levels in music, maths, chemistry, biology and Spanish, all at grade A and straight A* marks at GCSE level.

I am currently studying for the GDL in law, having achieved sponsorship from top International Law Firm with whom I will commence employment upon finishing my studies in 2010.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught piano, flute and music theory since the age of 15, with a total of ten pupils before stopping teaching to start university (where splitting my time between Cambridge and home made teaching impossible due to a lack of continuity).

I have helped pupils prepare for entrance exams for Oxbridge and have also tutored maths and english in the past.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a firm but friendly approach to teaching - this is more enjoyable both for me and my pupils! I tackle the obstacles in a graded and logical approach and only ask that pupils engage as much in their sessions as I do in order for them to gain as much as possible from them.

About Lian:
I am a twenty three years old and I live in Nottingham.
I was originally born in China, but moved to England when I was six years old, and so grew up here. This has resulted in my having a very precise English accent with no regional or overseas accent. I can also speak Mandarin like a native, as my parents have spoken Chinese to me at home, and kept my Mandarin up. I have perfect Beijing pronunciation in Mandarin, with no regional or western accent. I am currently studying part time, in Nottingham University, and working.
I have A levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, and Sociology. I also completed two years of a Neuroscience degree at Aberdeen University, but had to terminate my studies due to financial difficulties.

Teaching Experience:

I have no official teaching experience as of yet, but I have had many unofficial roles in teaching: helping Chinese students at my school, teaching them English. Also, I have an eleven year old brother, and I teach him Maths and English when I am at home. I have also taught course-mates some casual Mandarin.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very clear and succinct manner when it comes to explaining new concepts.
I make sure my students understand what I am trying to teach them, before moving on to something new.
I have an organised and conscientious approach to education, with very specific goals and lesson plans.
I like to move lessons along at the fastest pace a student can manage, and modify my lesson plans to adjust to that pace.
I monitor and change all my attitudes and approaches depending on the skill level of my students.

About Rachel:
I would consider myself to be a friendly, supportive and encouraging tutor, who is happy teaching across the entire age range, from primary children up to adult learners.
I am a qualified teacher, so have experience of teaching large groups as well as one-to-one tuition experience.
I taught on an intensive GCSE revision program for 3 years, and when teaching exam candidates, my students have always achieved excellent results, and in many cases developed a revived enthusiasm for the subject they have studied, which for me is the most rewarding part of teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in schools for 10 yrs; for 5 years of these I have taught in secondary schools (main subject English), and the other 5 (more recently) have been spent in primary schools, teaching across the entire 4-11 age range. I am also happy to teach adults who wish to brush up on their skills in a supportive, 1-to-1 environment. I also give lessons on the piano and flute.
I have taught in a special school, so I have experience of teaching students with a range of learning difficulties as well, including dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a range of teaching methods geared to the individual student's preferred learning styles, and try to work with the student. I believe that, in order for the tutee to gain the maximum possible benefit from the tuition process, tuition needs to be a 2-way process. I prepare and deliever the sessions, but I will also set the tutee regular homework so they can consolidate and practise their skills at home.
I usually deliver tuition sessions in my own home (New Romney, Kent). If very local to me, I may consider travelling to tutee's homes, but there would be a small additional cost if travel expenses were incurred.

About Justin:
I am currently in the final stages of a PhD in English Literature at Birkbeck College, University of London, and am looking to supplement my income by offering my wide range of experience in various periods of literature. In particular I specialize in nineteenth and twentieth century writing, but am also happy to teach other periods.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught extensively at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, on courses studying diverse topics such as literary London, the late nineteenth century, and the Victorian Supernatural. I am also supervising MA dissertations, so am experienced with both large groups and one-to-one tutorials.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to literature has always been to emphasise the fun and exciting aspects of the topic, to see it as a chance to read about different times and places, and to think about the different ways in which language can be used. I firmly believe that learning will be more effective if the topic is approached with a relaxed manner, yet still demanding the full attention of my students.

About Bilal:
A highly motivated professional, as a Lawyer and Lecturer, who has gained excellent qualifications and a high degree of varied work experience in a number of sectors. He combines excellent analytical, communication, presentation, organisation, time, task and resource management and interpersonal skills. He is personable, confident and self-motivated and is able to work effectively with all levels both on own initiative and as part of a result-focused team.

Teaching Experience:

I have given private tuition to law students of all levels from GCSE / A LEVEL / LL.B degree / GDL to LPC. I received prizes for academic achievements and have worked for numerous international law firms including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer a 'magic circle' law firm.

I have taught Arabic and Urdu at the University of Leeds, Language Centre as well as private tuition.

As for English language and English as foreign language, I have given private tuition to pupils from grammar schools amongst other schools and to adults who want to learn English.

As for Islamic Banking, Finance and Insurance, I am in the process of completing a Ph.D in the area and await a post to teach at post graduate level at the Business School of the University of Leeds as well as holding industry-recognised professional qualifications.

As for Islamic studies, I have taught a plethora of disciplines from Fiqh (Jurisprudence) and Usool al-Fiqh; Uloom al-Hadith and Uloom al-Quraan; Arabic grammar, morphology, semantics and syntax; Islamic History; Islamic Inheritence law; Islamic Contract law; Islamic Family law; etc...

Tutoring Approach:

My philosophy and attitude to teaching and tutoring is dependant wholly upon the objectives of the tutees viz-a-viz preparation for examinations, coursework or dissertation on the one hand or alternatively a general schematic study so as to acquaint oneself with the suject area.

This ethos is coupled with the underlying vision to prepare the prospective students so as to lay the foundation for mastering the given discipline and equally to enjoy and revel in the subject areas as opposed to a mere fleeting study where a cursory consideration is afforded.

About Thanasi:
I am currently a PhD student at Swansea University and reside in Cardiff. I have my bachelor's degree in Psychology (BSocSci: Psychology) and was awarded an additional, more specific, honours degree in the subject in 2005 (BA(Hons): Psychology). During my undergraduate years, I also registered for and excelled in various Political Science, International Relations, History and Philosophy modules over my 3 year bachelor's studies. I was born and raised in South Africa and have a firm command of the English language. I have also lived in Greece for 3 years and therefore speak both English and Greek fluently. I'm interested in tutoring pupils who genuinely require assistance in either improving or maintaining their grades.

Teaching Experience:

I have been providing part-time tutorial classes since my second year of university (2003). I began by offering extra-maths classes to junior high school pupils and started off with a promising amount of students. I then continued to provide extra-classes in English and History (GCSE curriculum) in 2004 and 2005 to a few students. In 2006, I tutored an A-level student in Political Science, History and Psychology. She did extremely well in her final exams and was awarded two A's and a B. During 2007, I assisted an English instructor at the Greek Naval Base in various education-related tasks that included assisting in class preparation, composing and printing tests and exams as well as editing various work-related documents. In 2008 I provided extra lessons to a young lady in Cardiff who needed assistance with her A-level History and Politics. She obtained B and C grades respectively for the subjects (an improvement of 10% and 20% respectively) and is now studying Law at university.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in assisting pupils not only directly in their related subjects but also in actualising their potential and gaining confidence in their ability to answer complex questions under time pressure. I have found that a calm, supportive yet professional attitude is most effective in aiding pupils to find the solutions on their own, with the appropriate guidance provided by the tutor. In doing so, not only are the relevant methods applied in the tutorial classes by the pupil him/herself but in addition, pupils tend to feel more in-control and confident in facing tests and exams once they apply themselves within such a stimulating environment. The tutoring process would begin by assessing the pupil's level in the first lesson and then preparing the suitable course work and materials for the second lesson. Thereafter, greater exposure to related areas of interest within the subject will ensue in subsequent lessons. Students are also occasionally required to prepare a past-paper question that I will provide them with for homework however no 'deadlines' are set, given that the student has other commitments. It is in the best interest of the student though to answer these particular questions on their own accord so that they can gain as much as possible from the tutorials. I currently have two students (for psychology and history) and am willing to take on more students.

About Madhurima:
I am a polite, friendly and approachable individual who believes in the importance of hard work and the need to nurture natural abilities as well. Having a firm grounding in mathematics and intention to pursue it throughout my academic career, i would like to be able to help others in this field.

Teaching Experience:

Despite not having worked as a tutor before, i have had teaching experience while being a teaching assistant in indian clasical dance classes as well when training weekend staff in my previous retail job.

About Silvère:
I am in Oxford to share my knowledge of French and spanish culture, civilisation, literature and above all language.
I am a french native speaker. I studied spanish literature and civilisation at the university of Corsica and also one year at the university of Seville. I graduated with honours in 2007 and last year I made a master degree in Spanish literature.
This is my "year off" to discover England.
I am looking forward to be teacher whern I will come back in my country.
I love Spanish and French language and I love to teach.

Teaching Experience:

I gave lots of private lessons during my studies (aproximately 6 years) in Spanish.
I also helped many children to do their homeworks.
I helped people to improve their spoken French and Spanish
I was also hired last year by a company which recruits teacher to give private lessons to children and adults

Tutoring Approach:

The first meeting is necesary for me to view your real level in order to focus on my future work and to prepare my lessons and exercises.
The first meeting also allows you to view how I want to work.
If you want to practise and improve your grammar, we have to work, to do exercises and also to read documents, book's extracts... The grammar is quiet important. You have to know grammar rules ti improve.
If you want to practise your spoken French or Spanish, we won't speak in English at all during the lesson. I will make you discover advertisements, songs... to know how this language works.

About Clare:
I am currently studying for a degree in single honours French at the University of Bristol. I am coming to the end of my first year and having an excellent time here. I am living in Hiatt Baker Hall and unfortunately my only transportation is by bus so I am able to tutor people who are within walking or bus distance.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a lot of teaching experience with the Air Cadets teaching young people of ages 13-18 the knowledge required to pass their exams. This ranged from teaching groups of 30 people to one-on-one tuition. Whilst still at school I tutored two year 7 girls in French and helped them to gain high marks in their summer examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning a subject should be fun and enjoyable for both tutor and tutee. I am young and I can still remember what I enjoyed doing whilst at school. I feel that I could give a lot to any tutee and would do my best to help them in any way they require.
