An initial meeting establishes the student's needs and the direction tuition should take. Tuition generally runs as an independent course running parallel to and complementing what the student is doing at college or university. I believe every individual has their own way that they find easiest to learn and absorb most easily and part of being an effective tutor is to identify the learning style of students and this is achieved through careful listening, observation, discussion and modes of work (speaking, writing, drawing) etc).
