I started off teaching German in adult education classes, followed by 10 years of ESL (English as a Second Language) in local community classes. For the last ten years I have been tutoring German and French, interspersed with some EFL at a local language school. I tutor in German from beginners to A2 and in French up to AS level, and have up top date knowledge of syllabus requirements of the main exam boards along with many years of past papers. I have also taught pupils who are being educated at home with great success.

Tutoring Approach:
I put a great deal into creating a very good relationship with my pupils and I feel that it is important to have a good rapport with their family too where possible. Whilst focussing on exams where appropriate I also aim to ensure language learning is enjoyable. All skills are covewred, with an emphasis on oral work. I always give homework, unless there is a convincing reason not to!

Teaching Experience:
Although I do not have any professional Teaching experience but I did teach privately. My main strength lies in understanding a student's need and I believe as a teacher I should be able to find out that in order to help the pupil. I therefore believe in one-on-one tuition.
In a class it is not possible to teach that way. I also believe that no one student is better than the other, it is some the technique that they need to apply in order to do well in an examination. As a teacher i believe i am the one who can teach a how to make learnings fun and not boring by giving him or her too much of homework. In maths especially, you can never solve all the problems and prepare for an examination.

Tutoring Approach:
As i have discussed above, i also feel good if i can pass on or impart with knowledge that i had gained. I like to see young student to learn, but not in a fashion where they don't enjoy what they are learning. I want to make sure that my student to enjoy as well as learn what he or she has to learn.

I will give you the sound of a new word first instead of the meaning of the word. By imitating the learning process of the mother tongue, I will make it easier to learn a second language.

About Gareth:
I am 43 years old and have not always been a teacher, having worked as a driver with the social services , a meat inspector, pupeteer, clerk and a giant Koala bear (Its a long story!) I like to think this gives me a wide range of experiance to draw upon when teaching. I have wide range of interests outside of school including climbing ,kayaking,looking after a range of animals including horses and ducks, and involvement in various historical interests including historical re enactment and giving talks to various groups.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a Primary School Teacher for ten years working in both Key stage 1 and Key stage 2. I also work as an Adult education Tutor, teaching archaeology GCSE . I have been working as a personal tutor since 2003 working with both Primary age children, GCSE students and children with Special needs.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe it is important to establish a love of learning in order to facilitate a receptive pupil. Therefore I approach each student as an individual and use a variety of multi sensory tools aimed to estabish the student easy access to learning whilst also establishing that study for study's sake can be fufilling and fun. I hope to bring to each student that magical moment when it all makes perfect sense and to help them find the tools within themselves to make those moments part of their own life's learning experience.

I am from New Zealand, English is my first language and Spanish my second. However I am confidently fluent in both.

Teaching Experience:
I have no formal teaching experience. I have taught Spanish to mainly Friends and Family at no fee.

Tutoring Approach:
I would love to teach primary Spanish to all ages, and Spanish to children. I believe Children are at a prime age to learn and absorb other languages and I would like to be a tool in helping them to achieve a second language. As for secondary Spanish, I would find it easy to teach at this level. My approach will be fun and laid back with visible results.

I am 28 years old and I am looking forward to getting married to my long term partner Brendan. We are saving hard, as becoming a personal tutor will hopefully help us save enough to have a truly remarkable time.
I have been teaching in Blackpool and Pocklington for the last 6 years, and in this time I have been dedicated to the children's knowledge and understanding of all the subjects I teach and due to this I have achieved excellent results.
I have two excellent references from previous headteachers and I just successfully completed some teaching based work to progress through to the upper pay scale of teachers.

Teaching Experience:
My first year teaching was in Blackpool, where I taught Y2 children (6-7year old) I successfully completed my NQT year, and then moved schools to have experience of teaching Reception aged children. I then moved schools again where I worked with a team of two other teachers to successfully start a foundation stage unit (nursery and reception) in Blackpool. I worked here for two years, but due to my partner moving to York with work, i moved to Pocklington three years ago.
Since then i have also taught a mixed Y1/2 class, and due to my excellent results with KS1 Sat's, i have been asked to take responsibility for a mixed Y5/6 class as of September.

Tutoring Approach:
I will find out which style of learning will benefit your child the most, whether it be visual or hands on, then i will plan a variety of different lessons to ensure your child receives the best learning style for them.
I feel that being reflective and flexible are important attributes of a teacher, as the ever-changing needs of pupils must be met. I feel I possess these qualities, and I am constantly striving to meet new challenges and situations that arise in the classroom. I always implement a firm but fair code of behaviour management within the classroom, and try to use a variety of teaching strategies to enforce this. I feel that it is particularly important for the children to have a safe learning environment, a place they enjoy coming to and feel relaxed enough to share their knowledge and experiences. I vehemently believe that all children deserve a stimulating and enriching curriculum, a curriculum that will enable them to reach their potential not just academically, but also in a personal and social way. As a teacher I hope to be able to scaffold that development and truly help the children in my care to reach their full potential.
