About Samuel:
I am an approachable, flexible easygoing personal tutor. I've have a range of qualifications in multi-disciplinary areas, which means that I am skilled in dealing with people from a all walks of life, and from many different backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since I started my first degree in 1996. Since then I have bee personal tutor to well over 100 students, from all backgrounds, all disciplines, and all age groups (including adult tuition).

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flexible tuition style, and draw from a wide range of real life examples to help student make sense of complicated or confusing concepts, or just to concrete what they already know. In addition, I am a skilled communicator and I lecture and lead seminars all over the world. Of course, tuition is results driven; most often those are entrance exams, or public exams. I have successfully helped student realise their full potential and go on to bigger and better things.

Students generally fall into one of two categories. Those that require additional support with the material they are covering in class, and those that need the tutor to structure lessons and material to teach the subject areas covered in the syllabus. I am able to take either approach.

About Felicity:
I've always enjoyed the arts, which is why I took a degree which covers English and Creative Arts. Currently, I belong to a drama improvisation group which keeps me on my toes and keeps the creative muscles exercised. This comming school year I have one A level student so have room for another two a week.

Teaching Experience:

My degree in English and Creative Arts, involved teaching drama at key stage 3 level, and writing a play.

My teaching experience covers private tutoring of GCSE and A level - English, English Literature and media studies. My pupils have been mainly teenage boys, some of whom started off rather resistant to their parents' idea of bringing in a tutor, but who all ended up with excellent results.

I have taught English as a foreign language to classes of adults in a language school, and have also given individual lessons.

Separately to private tutoring, I have devised and run a drama course for adults.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach tends to be informal. I encourage pupils to step up their level of organisation. Meanwhile, I think it's very important that the pupil looks forward to their sessions. I tend not to set homework, but will support the pupil to keep track of homework set by their school. I also encourage the pupil to be aware of grammar and those little things that make a good impression on the examiner. Ultimately, my goal would be that the pupil learns how to approach their studies in a focused and self disciplined way with skills that are transferable across the curriculam and indeed other areas of their life.

About Matthew:
Hi

My name is Matthew Knott and I am 31 years old. I am a British citizen and I have recently returned to the UK after living and working in Tokyo. I am married with a young son. I attended Chatham Grammar School for Boys and the University of Leeds. As well as my teaching jobs I have worked in sales, the legal industry and local government.

I have several interests, including writing articles and reading. I love traveling and I have visited several countries, especially in Asia. I take a keen interest in a number of sports and in particular love football. I also enjoy playing the guitar and writing music.

Teaching Experience:

I have a number of years experience as an EFL tutor. I have worked in summer schools in England and Spain. Until March of 2008 I was living in Tokyo, where I taught at a private language school and at Waseda University, one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Japan.

I have taught a huge number of nationalities and also have experience of teaching every age-group from toddlers upwards. Additionally, I have had a number of private students for whom I taught English, Business English, Academic Writing, Politics, Current Affairs and Japanese.

I have a first class degree in Politics & Sociology from Leeds University as well as A-Levels in Sociology and History at Grade A and am comfortable tutoring these subjects as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on being a very flexible tutor. In terms of EFL it is extremely important for me to find out clearly what the student`s purpose for studying is, their interests, strengths and weaknesses. After that I will choose, adapt and create appropriate materials to help the student develop.

I am comfortable teaching all aspects of the English language, plus any special requirements students may have. I can also offer an essay editing service for international students.

For academic subjects I can help with vocabulary, analysis, essay-writing, research skills and examinations techniques. I am happy to assist with any requirements or problems students may have. I am very enthusiastic about these students and hope I can pass on encouragement and enthusiasm to students.

With regards to Japanese I can teach basic skills, grammar, vocabulary and phonetics. I am also happy to teach Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji characters along with useful techniques for remembering and reading these.

I hope my lessons will be creative, constructive and enjoyable. I look forward to hearing from you.

About Emma:
I am a student at Brunel University studying financial mathematics, I have taught many of my family and friends and am always helping around exam time. I enjoy teaching children and have found that if you give some children a chance to think without rushing them it works wonders.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught many students at GCSE level in mathematics, have taught basic french to students and also alot of family friends and family.

Tutoring Approach:

I make teaching fun, I interact games (especially for younger students) so that they catch on quicker without noticing that they are learning. I also encourage my students to do a little bit of homework for me each week (only about half an hours worth as i know that they have their own school work to do) but this does stop them forgetting what they have learnt the week before.

I also like to interact the parents in sitting and learning with their children (if the parents wish to) so that the work does not seem like such a chore but like a family activity with games.

About Nikolas:
I am a qualified Art Tutor, teaching to all ages, with long experience in various subjects of Fine Arts, such as, Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, and Craft techniques. Being native Greek I can also offer Greek tutorials (modern Greek) although it's a secondary subject in my tutorial experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2-year experience (2000-2002) working as Drawing and Painting freelance tutor for students in higher education. During these 2 years I delivered art tutorials to students preparing for Art College examinations and working towards a completion of art portfolio. During 2004 I collaborated in a 6-month extra curriculum workshop for primary school children. It involved arts and crafts activities such us collage, mask making, group painting on given themes, painting techniques, understanding of colours, and painting through examples of 20th c painters. I was also accepted for participating at the "Cumbria Arts and Archives project 2007" for Cumbrian schools, the applications were sent to schools participating at the project and students themselves took part in the selection process.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every person has individual needs in learning a subject (especially Art subjects) and I try to give priority to this pedagogical stream of tutoring, in particular when it concerns younger ages. I believe tutoring should be contacted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and the whole experience should be interactive, educational and enriching for both the tutor and the student.

About Ali:
Hi,

I am Ali. I did my MBA from Oxford University in 2006. Oxford University, an institution in the league of its own, prides itself on its academic rigour and forward thinking. I am fortunate that I have been a participant in this great tradition of learning.
I want to give the up and coming students a taste of what it is like at Oxford. I want to prepare them to the highest academic standards so that they may unleash their talents and find their rightful place in the practical world.

Teaching Experience:

I started my career as a teacher. I taught for 2 years before joining Civil Service. I also did home tuitions when I was a student.

Tutoring Approach:

In my opinion teaching is not a trade which can be learnt. People are born with it. Those who have it in them can't stop themselves from teaching. Teaching for me is the ability to make others understand what you know. It is an art of sharing what you have. I believe that teaching comes naturally to me. I love to teach.

I enjoy teaching and I enjoy learning languages myself so I understand the effort required, and the importance of keeping lessons varied and interesting. I adapt my teaching to the needs of the student and like to work closely with them - I believ most people know how they learn best and I like to plan my lessons according to their style of learning.

About Sarah:
I'm a graduate who has spent three years living in France studying French language and culture. I am enthusiastic about my subject and enjoy passing on what I have learnt to other people. I'm easy to get on with and am an approachable person.

Teaching Experience:

I tutored French children whilst living in France, and worked for half a year in a French school working with young children.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make the subject interesting for the student, not intimidating - by using music or conversation for example. I realise that speaking in a foreign language can be embarrassing for students, so I try to make them less self conscious. Although grammar is important, French is a living and evolving subject, something which makes it constantly intersting, and I think its important to reflect this in lessons.

About Nick:
I have experience playing and composing music especially with my guitar and keyboard. I am primarily qualified as a music producer with many skills in mixing and mastering. I have been involved in many professional productions across the north e.g. in Dance City, and The Rheged Centre fashion show for Debenhams and Mercedes to name a few. I am an enthusiastic, creative and motivated person with a keen interest to teach. I am a highly effective linguist with great academic, technical, teaching and professional background.

I am a native speaker of Greek and English, bilingual in all modes. Educated in both Greece and England I have an advantage in understanding the culture and concept of each language, therefore making me able to specialize and understand the difficulties between an English student wanting to learn Greek or vice versa. I find teaching extremely rewarding particularly when contributing to the learners' development by passing on my passion for language and culture with an outstanding approach to lessons.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to international students across a range of ages and levels both in the UK and in Athens. In Athens I was employed as a private English tutor and trusted by many families to provide good results for their children as well as adult learners.
Qualifications

Tutoring Approach:

After been a student for many years, I have obtained a knowledge for efficient studying, aiding students whatever the level, to achieve their full potential in Greek, English, or Music Production.

My teaching experience ranges from children to adults with extremely positive results. Greek is a challenging language however with my passion for teaching it, achieving fluency is possible for anyone that truly wants to learn. I am very flexible and very patient with a high understanding of the students' needs.

My lessons are designed to cater for students' individual needs. The materials used focus on real communication for a real purpose. I encourage students to make mistakes but also teach them to learn from them. I have always believed in the communicative approach for teaching, which ensures that students seize the structural aspects of a language or subject. This method shows a particular advance for my language students in becoming fluent speakers.

I also incorporate the use of modern technology in my lessons (used by NASA). It is a vital part of our everyday lives and I feel it is essential to the learning process. Regular sessions in the language subjects each week, would ensure full potential and maximize student results, as they need to frequently exercise what they have learned. Hard work and repetition is essential, but my experience over the years has taught me to make it fun and rewarding.
