Tutoring Approach: Depending on the age, I will adapt the time spent with the tutee. I suggest 30 minutes for primary aged children (I will adapt myself to the child and his attention span), at this age I would recommend fun and interactive lessons. For very little kids I use puppets, flash cards, songs, etc.... the key word is flexibility on my part!!! Children also learn more if they can share the lessons with little friends their own age. Older children, teenagers should be taught both grammar structures and vocabulary in a more structured way. I'll try to follow as much as possible what is done in the classroom if the child already has French at school. Otherwise, I'll adapt my lessons to what the parents are expecting from me (whether the child's parents are French and would like their child to discover French litterature for example). I can also create lessons for a special objectives like spending holidays in France with friends and family we'll then concentrate on specific vocabulary and situations. For adults: there again it all depends what you expect from those lessons. Do you already have some prior knowledge of the language or not? Do you have some specific objectives like buying a house in France or spending your holidays there? I'll adapt to your needs. We may most likely concentrate on vocabulary and situations and include grammar in as we go along. |

Teaching Experience: I studied at Dundee College of Education where I gained a Diploma in Primary Education. This was a three year course. I then took another Cerificate in Early Years. After leaving college, I taught in both the state and private primary sector. I left teaching to have my children and then to nurse my youngest child who was quite sick for a few years. Once his health was better, I then started working as a tutor from home or going to the clients house to tutor. I have not been tutoring for two years now due to various reasons but i am now ready to tutor again. |
Tutoring Approach: I always believe that the child should feel comfortable with the person they are being tutored by and build up a good relationship. Tutoring is not only about helping the child to succeed but also for them to gain confidence and self belief. I have various methods of tutoring from written work, reading and oral work. Tutoring Approach: I feel that there is no better way to learn a language than by actually speaking it with a native speaker. I have worked with pupils from all levels in the past so don't be shy!! Tutoring Approach: My approach to one to one tutoring is to ascertain the learners weaknesses and strengths. By so doing I am able to meet the learners need by focusing on improving the learners weakness. In addition I use the learners strengths as a means of motivation and encouragement. for example, if the learner is a competent reader but unable to spell of write fluently, I encourage the learner by showing them how well they are able to read and then use this to encourage improving spelling or writing skills. I also encourage learners to be independent and use their own initiative in discovering learning opportunities. |
