About Susanne:
I am a native German speaker with experience in language teaching. I have a degree in English language and literature, Spanish literature and German as a foreign language (M.A. grade 1.3).
I have been living in Edinburgh for more than 3 years, so I can also teach English as a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

At the moment I am teaching German to adult learners. (groups of up to 16 learners)
I worked as a self-employed languages teacher in Germany. I taught German as a foreign language to adults, mainly in a company in the automotive sector. In addition, I tutored school children between the ages of 7 and 17 in English and German. I also tutored a university student in English and prepared him for his exams.
In 2000/2001 I worked as a foreign language assistant in secondary schools in Edinburgh.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that my classes are very enjoyable, as I love teaching and tutoring. At the same time I have experience in teaching different ages and levels and always take the wishes and needs of the learners into consideration.
I think that it is important to be able to communicate in another language, so conversation plays an important role in my classes. I also include games and music. However, there is no way around learning some grammar, too....but even that can be fun.

About Sarah:
Prior to starting my teacher training I qualified as a Nursery Nurse after completing a BTEC in Early Years. I then went onto Primary Teacher Training at St Mary`s University College in Strawberry Hill Twickenham. I qualified as a Primary Teacher in 2006 and am in my second years teaching at a school in Clapham Junction. I have a great energy and passion for teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching a Reception class in a school in Clapham Junction. I taught year 1 prior to that and during my training I have had experience in all Primary year groups. I am currently teaching the "Jolly Phonics" programme which is proving to be a very good way of supporting early reading and writing skills. I studied Reading and Writing skills as a speciality at university and also developing Numeracy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to use a multisensory approach in my teaching which I feel makes it interesting for the pupil and promotes learning. I feel that if a child is happy in their learning environment then they will be more motivated to learn. I have numerous resources, including I.T. use which I use to enhance my sessions where appropriate.

I charge 20 per hour, but for two hour sessions I will charge a discounted 35.

About Lisa:
I am a second year phd student at Queens. My area of interest is 18th century Irish history but also have an interest in European history. I wish to gain more teaching/tutoring experience as I hope to go into lecturing when I complete my studies.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as atutor for two years in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick when I was doing my MA in history. I thought six groups of 10 students in aspects of Irish, European and American history. I also corrected course work and supervised exams. Last semester, I did some tutoring work at Queens, specialising in the 19th Ireland module and corrected some essays.

Tutoring Approach:

Its important to make the student(s) feel at ease and get a full understanding of what their problem areas are etc. I would also plan to write up a work schedule with the student and assign a certain amount of work with him/her. I would also try and provide as much feedback as possible to the student and hopefully have a good working relationship with him/her.

About Ann:
I have been involved with children all my adult life, either in teaching in Primary schools or bringing up my own family of four. I am now Granny to five of the next generation, aged between one month and ten years. I took early retirement from teaching last summer and am looking forward to enabling children to learn again.
I am a Christian who cares deeply about injustice and inequality and I do whatever I can to give all people the opportunity to be the best they can be.
I have a strong interest in helping people in the third world and go to Burma twice a year. If you want to find out more about this, I can give you my website address.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a primary school teacher in 1971. My first job was at Silksworth Primary school in Sunderland where I discovered I was particularly good at helping 'failed' readers. In 1974 I moved to a special school for children with mild learning difficulties and was there until the birth of my first child in 1977. I returned to teaching in 1988 and between then and 2007 I taught all age groups from Reception to Y6. My last school was Bugbrooke Primary School near Northampton. As a result of such a broad experience I thoroughly understand the learning processes for all stages of development. This is important when assessing why a child is having a particular difficulty and planning how to resolve it..

Tutoring Approach:

I have a positive approach to teaching and learning and am particularly expert at building children's self esteem and confidence in their own ability. I have a thorough knowledge and a great deal of experience of teaching reading, including phonological awareness, writing and basic numeracy. I am happy to teach children individually or in small groups according to parental choice. I would prefer to teach in my own home but would be willing to travel if that is the parental preference.

About Ryan:
I teach English full time in a local secondary school and have a very strong record of raising pupils' attainment. I work with all year groups, 7-13 (age 11-18), and have experience working with pupils with special needs, as well as having done lot of work on stretching gifted and talented students. English is my passion and it's one I am enthusiastic to share with others. Having graduated from Oxford in English in 2005, my subject knowledge is up-to-date and, in addition, I have marked GCSE papers for two exam boards in recent years, so I know what examiners really want to see! At GCSE my particular interests are moving pupils from A/B to A* grades and working with students who are in danger of not getting a C.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2006, having taken my PGCE at Homerton College in Cambridge. Since then I have been working in a local comprehensive school, teaching English full time. Part of my job is preparing students for their SATs in English (including the Shakespeare element, which seems to be the section which causes most concern!), GCSE English and English Literature and A Level English Literature. I have marked both GCSE English and English Literature for OCR and AQA. I have undertaken private tutoring in the past with some of my own students, but now feel ready to diversify!

Tutoring Approach:

I would ask to see a sample of work before the first session, so that we can identify the areas which we need to target. From there, and in consultation with student and parents/carers, we could put together a programme which would be tailored to meet the needs to of the student. I always try to create a relaxed atmosphere, and encourage humour!

About sheida:
I am currently a PhD student at Manchester university studying Material and Paper Science. I also posses an MSc in Electrical Power Engineering and BEng in Electronics Systems Engineering from the same university. I obtained my First Certificate in English as a foreign language awarded from Cambridge university and i am confident in speaking, writing and reading in English. I believe in studying conceptually and practice which makes perfect. I strongly follow up a scheduled plan for both studying and teaching and this was my everlasting method during my university and college period. To me nothing is difficult unless it is unclear and we do not concentrated solely on that issue, otherwise commitment and effort makes everything solvable and achievable. I performed various time consuming and laborious experimental tasks and software coding as well as delicate mathematical calculations and I am confident in arranging plans and finding possible and alternative ways of solving a problem.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught various software package and IT skills as well as mathematics and electronic lessons to a group of students at Manchester university. I also tutored two students to pass their re-sits along with guiding students in laboratory and experimental activities. Finally, I have had the experience of teaching English and Economic and management to a member of my family who successfully passed their Access to HE course and she is actually a student at MMU doing her Accounting and Finance (BSc).

Tutoring Approach:

My main approach in tutoring is firstly analyse and examine my student's abilities in learning and picking up points along with identifying his/her weaknesses and strengths. Thereafter I decide which approach is more suitable for that particular student. Planning a quite flexible and thorough schedule is my next step according to which i teach my student small sections and pass them some relevant questions to practice and bring them back to me to check. I believe in helping the student if they are unable to solve something in first place rather than confusing them and giving them hard time. However, they should pay attention and commit their sole and mind to the lesson to be able to solve the rest of the questions themselves.

About Clement:
Having spent a short stint working as an analyst at one af Britain's leading automotive consultancies, I am returning to university to complete a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Cardiff University).

Working with some of the most exciting vehicles of our time was an incredibly rewarding experience, but it wouldn't have been possible without my enthusiasm for Maths and Physics!

I have been consistently ranked amongst the top 3 of my year at Cardiff University and averaged 98% in my A-levels Maths and Mechanics papers.

Teaching Experience:

2 years home tutoring experience at Secondary and GCSE level with an excellent track record.
2 further years teaching adult evening GCSE classes at a local college in Cardiff, with extensive exam preparation and coursework marking experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand the frustration of not being able to solve maths problems, but with real, day to day type Maths/Physics examples, I can show you why it is really not THAT difficult.

All you need is a logical, open mind (some people call it common sense) and I will help guide you to the grade you want.

Exam preparation will be carried out up to 8 weeks in advance, comprising of timed real past paper exercises and I will also help you to create a revision strategy, for all your other subjects as well.

About Elizabeth:
I studied at Cambridge University, where I graduated with an Honours degree in Natural Sciences. During this time I specialised in Plant Sciences, and was awarded first class passes for my literature review, Calcium-permeable Channels of the Root-hair Plasma Membrane and Their Roles in Polar Tip Growth and my dissertation, An Investigation into the Subcellular Localisation of Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetases and Pseudouridine Synthase.

After completing my degree, I gained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Roehampton University. During this time I undertook specialist studies into The Importance of Creativity in the Teaching and Learning of Primary Science. I trained at two schools: one in central London and one in Wimbledon.

Teaching Experience:

After gaining my PGCE, I taught at St. Nicholas' School, Church Crookham, where I coordinated Science in the Junior School and assisted in the Music Department: teaching classes, working with ensembles and participating in concerts.

In addition to teaching in schools, I have also worked for the Cove based charity Parity for Disability and the national charity The Newman Holiday Trust. In my roles as a Care Assistant, I have gained experience of working with children who have multiple physical disabilities and behavioural and learning difficulties. As a fully qualified teacher, and from the charity work I do with under 18s, I holds a current, valid CRB check.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that learning should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. None of us are perfect at everything and sometimes we need someone to give us a bit of a leg up when it comes to mastering a subject. My aim is to provide pupils with a personalised learning programme that will help them to reach their full potential and achieve the results they deserve.

About Chris:
I am a 21 year old Male, I was head hunted by a company in the biometric security field when I was 14 years old, after finishing some work with a electronics manufacturer in london. Since then I have successfully run my own business providing IT and Product Development Services to other businesses. Systems I have worked on include those used at Fords, border control in the middle east and various others.

I left a East London State School with 13 A-C's at GCSE, after that i decided further education was not the right path for me and travelled across america visiting 31 different states in 2005. I am an avid outdoors person in the early stages of starting my own charity to get young people outdoors doing Adventure Activities.

Teaching Experience:

I have been heavily involved in the Scouts and have worked with young people instructing them in general skills, as well as outdoor related skills including camping, climbing and abseiling.

I have also tutored the siblings of friends in Science and Maths, I tutored half my own A-Level computer class through college as they felt the general teaching was insufficient.

Through my work, I have tutored several people in the use of different applications on the PC.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe people learn best by doing, so with tutoring I try to keep it as practical as possible. I will try to challenge you, however I will always make sure that it is within your capabilities.

I am flexible, I will talk to you about how you feel you learn and adapt to that.
