I have recently finshed a masters degree in physics with first class honours. After completing my degree I undertook a fixed contract placement at Leeds Dental Institiute as a research technician in X-Ray synchrtron diffraction on human dental enamel. Since the contract has ended I have returned to university to start a Phd, my field of research is condensed matter physics, and I specialise in the field of magnetism.

Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring A-Level students for six months. I also supervise laboratory's at the university and help in problem tutorials across all levels.
During my time at the university I demonstrated physics experiments to memebers of the public as part of enrichment programs.

Tutoring Approach:
With all my clients I have an intial half hour session where both myself and the student can discuss the best approach to teaching. I believe that all students learn in different ways and it is important to establish the method which will suit that student.
As a basic outline I usually teach each lesson, and then finish with a series of questions that check understanding and which help to develop problem solving skills. As the exam date get closer, I change to intense revision lessons, which usually involve answering past papers.

Teaching Experience:
Due to my age I do not have any qualifications in teaching, but I do have a plethora of younger cousins so I am used to spending time with younger people and enjoy teaching and helping them with things. I come from a family of teachers and this has definitely rubbed off on me, I both an enjoy and have been told I am good at teaching, especially art. In terms of actual experience, I recently had to commandeer a group of around 25 people my age in an art-based capacity, which was very rewarding and produced excellent results. Also, my A level in sociology has led me to increase my understanding of, and improve my interaction skills with young people aged 11-15.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe with enough enthusiasm and good teaching anyone is capable of, well, anything, and as a tutor I would aim to provide both these things. I do not believe in a harsh approach to teaching as in my experience it only lowers spirits and hinders productivity and creativity. I would aim not only to help potential students increase their skills and understanding, but also their enjoyment of the subject, which I think is essential to success. Teaching Experience:
I have been giving private tuitions for four years in France, A' Level and University level. I also worked as oral examiner in Math and Physics for preparation classes (equivalent to the Bsc. in Maths and Physics) in France.

Tutoring Approach:
Whether you are a "desperate" student, or willing to have top A'Levels, the approach will be totally different. I give first priority to identify reasonable objectives, and work hard with the student to meet them. If your results in Maths and Physics are very low, then we will first secure all the basis and the methods to make sure that you pass you exam. If you are already an average student, but willing to be more prepared to higher education, we will work on more complicated exercises that will allow you to master your subjects.

About "homeworks", I would never make them for you, but would be really pleased to give you a detailed and personal correction of them.

I find group teaching also very efficient, as provided that all the students are really motivated and about the same level.

Two hours sessions is strongly recommended.

I am originally from Northern Ireland and therefore am a native english speaker however I have studied Spanish to University degree level and lived in Argentina(a large spanish speaking country in South America) for a year.
I have studied Spanish for GCSE, A-Level and Degree level so I know what you need to know for these exams. As part my degree program I studied Spanish at the University of Buenos Aires and achieved the highest level of language certification that they offer. I have visited many other spanish speaking countries such as Spain, Chile and Uruguay and am therefore fully aware of differences between accents and dialects.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching languages and am completely flexible and adaptable to the needs of each individual student.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to learning a language successfully and naturally is oral and aural exposure- to hear and to speak that language as much as possible. Therefore, from the very first class I try to get even the beginner speaking Spanish. I use traditional teaching materials such as grammar books, dictionaries and the teaching of verb conjugations and vocabulary but also emphasise a communicative approach through listening practise(films, music, news and tv in spanish language) and conversation practise. I can help with any GCSE level, A Level or University Level needs and am happy to teach all ages.
Having lived in a spanish speaking country for an extended period has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to pass on the most important parts of a language-every day essential communication- plus my university studies in the UK and abroad have equipped me with an excellent level of understanding of the more demanding topics and vocabulary which, for example, an A-Level Spanish student may need to learn.

Because of my ADHD and dyslexia i know how to teach in a way that anyone with out or wqithout learing difficulties can understand. Whilst at school i was always told off for being lazy and for not listening when in truth i did listen and did work hard but because of ADHD i just did it in a different way.

I can teach slowley or quickly at whatever pace you require, i also teach in a simple and effective style in very explaintaory way so that you know why we do things the way we do rather than just learning how it is done.

My name is Lucy Laycock. I am currently studying English Literature and an Education module at Durham university. I am passionate about learning and teaching and am planning to become a teacher after university. I read widely, this is one of my greatest passions. I am also a strong writer and can edit fluently, with my work having been published for example by Sky Sports and "Great Minds". I also speak strong Spanish, having studied it to A level and spent much time in Spanish speaking countries; most recently this summer in Costa Rica! Due to the nature of my course I can offer a lot of flexibility, whether it is just for a lesson to help on a difficult subject, or for a more intensive course to help a pupil reach their full potential and receive the one to one tuition they need.

I am also a keen sailor and enjoy travelling and drama. I am outgoing and enjoy working with young people.

Teaching Experience:
In April 2007 I worked in a school in Algeciras, Spain for 4 weeks. I taught students age 3-18 in English as a foreign language.

At school (I left in July 2007) I was Head Girl and as such was involved in extra curricular teaching methods such as accompanying students on field trips.

This summer I went to Costa Rica and taught underprivileged children aged 9-13, once again in English as a foreign language. I also worked with infant children at a daycare centre.

I am honoured to have been accepted this year onto the government "Student Associates Scheme" and will be spending time in a school in the Durham area teaching English to key stage 3 (11-13 year olds). This will compliment my Education module at university.

Tutoring Approach:
Each lesson should be geared towards the pupil. In some cases it may be appropriate to focus upon the particular area/s in which the pupil is struggling and to explain them in more detail, perhaps in new ways that will be more comprehendable to the individual. Other times it may be appropriate to run a course of lessons to cover a particular topic area alongside school study time, to compliment in class learning and aid with class set homework. School textbooks would be an essential aid to lessons to make the learning appropriate to the section of the curriculum.

I certainly think it is important to set some exercises to do between lessons, or to prepare for my next visit. This confirms knowledge and gives the pupil a chance to practise on their own. Of course, if at any point the individual was struggling they would be free to contact me by email or telephone for help.

Finally it is important to make sure that lessons are both fun and engaging, and that there is a good relationship between tutor and tutee. I think my age, and the fact I have recently finished education myself, makes me much more able to relate to younger age groups than some tutors.

I have taught in several environments which would be considered difficult, such as with clients that are visually impaired, or suffer from some form of physical disability, which typically excludes children from mainstream education.

I have also taught those in mainstream education how to advance their IT knowledge. This typically happens when students start their GCSEs and can continue in some cases until they reach and pass their retirement age.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is very simple and uses classic methods which I have found to work for the majority of people I work with.

Step 1: Show you how to do it
Step 2: Explain why it's done that way
Step 3: Get you to do it and explain back why you're doing it that way (And using the "Because you told me to" excuse doesn't work!)

I normally have worksheets with me that explain exactly what we're going do be doing, which has been used to great effect at the homeless shelter I taught at for nearly 12 months.

I have recently completed my first year of Biochemistry at Oxford University. I have always been passionate about the sciences and I am now looking forward to the chance of encouraging more young people to engage with the sciences.

I am highly organised and feel that my drive, commitment and enthusiasm for all my subjects would come across in my teaching. As well as passing exams, I would strive to help any tutee reach their full potential whilst trying to widen their enjoyment of the sciences, integrating the subjects and showing how they apply in the real world.

I am returning to Oxford in October to begin my second year, but due to our relatively short eight week terms, I will be available again at Christmas (all of December and early January) and at Easter (March and early April).

Teaching Experience:
While still at school, as well as a mentoring program, I took part in a buddy reading program, where as sixth form students, we would go and read with individual year 4 students in order to give them the practise and support they needed. Also, in my school holidays, I have frequently helped out at my mother's primary school, from simply helping to organise work and marking, to chaperoning on school trips and acting as a classroom assistant. These roles have helped develop my communication skills, as well as my patience and sensitivity with regards to others' learning processes.

In addition to these skills, my abilities to work as part of a team, and especially with younger children, were enhanced when I took part in the Young Enterprise scheme in the sixth form, where I worked as part of a group to organise children's birthday parties as a business. It was a thoroughly rewarding process, and we were highly successful in tailor-making each party to the needs of each child and their parents.

Tutoring Approach:
As a tutor, I would be flexible and would try to tailor sessions to meet individual student's needs. I understand that everyone has a different way of learning, and to that end, I would endeavour to find the most effective teaching style for each student. I would use interactive sessions to encourage enjoyment of each subject as I believe that developing an interest in a branch of study is very important and goes a long way to developing ability, as well as helping to engage students.

As a tutor, I would encourage students to challenge themselves academically, whilst providing guidance and aid where needed.

I have just second year at Oxford University reading Experimental Psychology.
Given this, and my A-Level subjects, I can offer private tuition in Drama, English, History, Maths and Psychology. I am organised, committed and enthusiastic about all my subjects and enjoy working with children and young adults to help them enjoy learning and develop their interest in their subjects.

I am in Oxford until the beginning of December and so am available in London from 13 December to mid-January and then at Easter (March and early April).

Teaching Experience:
While still at school, I took part in both Buddy Maths (GCSE and Year 9 students) and Buddy Reading (Year 7 students) schemes, as well as a mentoring programme. Part of my role in the schemes was to engage the children with learning in order to improve their understanding and enjoyment of Maths and English respectively. This developed my communication skills, as well as my patience and sensitivity with regards to others' learning processes.

These skills were further developed when I took part in the Young Persons' Arts Award. I was part of a group working on a Drama project. In conjunction with our A-Level Drama course, we created a series of workshops and educational sessions for younger students that were active and informative as we aimed to involve and interest them in both performance and the theory behind it. This developed my skills in teamwork, as well as in creating material geared towards different ages and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:
As a tutor, I would tailor sessions to meet individual student's needs and interests. My approach would therefore emphasise flexibility and an enjoyment of learning, as well as developing an interest in the subject being tutored and its links to other related areas. In order to best achieve this, I would create a relaxed yet structured environment, with interactive sessions to engage the student, encouraging them to think imaginatively and for themselves whilst also providing guidance. I would encourage each student to challenge themselves academically and to debate so that both their examination technique and their wider academic development are furthered.
