Tutoring Approach:
It is important that the tutorials suit the learner and as such I like to plan a few goals with the student (and parent if applicable). In some cases it is useful to concentrate on day to day struggles with classwork; in many others it is good to concentrate on specific goals, usually related to an examination specification.

I truly believe that a student learns best when learning is fun! I have a range of games and methods from which I select to suit the student. Some students learn better in a pair and joint tutorials with friends can be agreed by arrangement.

I am in Oxford until the beginning of December and so am available in London from 13 December to mid-January and then at Easter (March and early April).

Teaching Experience:
While still at school, I took part in both Buddy Maths (GCSE and Year 9 students) and Buddy Reading (Year 7 students) schemes, as well as a mentoring programme. Part of my role in the schemes was to engage the children with learning in order to improve their understanding and enjoyment of Maths and English respectively. This developed my communication skills, as well as my patience and sensitivity with regards to others' learning processes.

These skills were further developed when I took part in the Young Persons' Arts Award. I was part of a group working on a Drama project. In conjunction with our A-Level Drama course, we created a series of workshops and educational sessions for younger students that were active and informative as we aimed to involve and interest them in both performance and the theory behind it. This developed my skills in teamwork, as well as in creating material geared towards different ages and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:
As a tutor, I would tailor sessions to meet individual student's needs and interests. My approach would therefore emphasise flexibility and an enjoyment of learning, as well as developing an interest in the subject being tutored and its links to other related areas. In order to best achieve this, I would create a relaxed yet structured environment, with interactive sessions to engage the student, encouraging them to think imaginatively and for themselves whilst also providing guidance. I would encourage each student to challenge themselves academically and to debate so that both their examination technique and their wider academic development are furthered.

I have an English Language and Literature BA Hons degree and have achieved high A level grades in French and Spanish.
I tutored a secondary school girl in French several years ago and she was able to improve her exam marks by 5% as a result

Teaching Experience:
As above and I also help in a classroom assistant capacity in an after-school Kumon centre whereby I listen to pupils of all ages whilst they read excerpts to me and correct any mistakes and mark their efforts accordingly. I also check parents' marks from their child's homework and perform some oral maths addition and subtraction as well as providing general assistance when the need arises.

Tutoring Approach:
Patient but firm if I feel that the child is trying to go off at a tangent and start talking about non work-related topics.

I give an abundance of praise and don't criticise if the child gets a question wrong but merely explain where they went wrong and encourage them to get it right the next time

I have been accepted for a placement with SAS(Student Associate Schemes). This is about mentoring in classes in public Schools. In the past I was teaching my relatives and friends. I was a leader in a children camp for 3 years.
