About Robert:
I have A levels in Biology, Chemisty and Physics and work in financial services. As much as anything else, tutoring gives me the chance to use knowledge that is important to me on a more frequent basis

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved in a number of different projects and volunteering activities in the past. This includes working in a Leeds University summer school, involvement in the "Playing for Success" scheme, run at Headingly Stadium. In the past I helped as a volunteer at a secondary school in the Hyde Park area, helping out with all science subjects. Finally when I was taking my A-levels I used to act a mentor for a couple of GCSE students who needed a bit of extra help.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always been passionate about knowledge and learning, I believe that a good grounding in the Sciences is more and more important in todays society. I feel the best way to help someone to develope this is to make Science interesting to the individual.
I also believe in the value of kinesthetic learning, the teachers that I remember from my own time at school are the ones who had a real passion for their subject and went out of their way to pass it on.

About Christopher:
I have been working as an office administrator and customer service representative over the past few years. I have been able to advance in my career through demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively both independently and collectively, while under pressure. My willingness to take initiative and my abilities to work independently and effectively, while under pressure have led to my interest in promoting learning within both private and public settings.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a private teacher and tutor and recently earned a CELTA teaching certificate. The combination of these skills and qualifications allow me to not only work successfully alongside, but also communicate effectively, with people from different cultures, different backgrounds, and different ages. This certification has helped further complement my teaching skills, in that it has enhanced my already-strong ability to understand and effectively solve problems. Along with my administrative background, my CELTA certification enables me to maintain necessary efficiency and organization, and to establish and maintain rapport.

Tutoring Approach:

While earning my Master's degree in Literature, my interest in teaching has piqued. I feel that teaching is a personal, and necessary, inevitability. Teaching is an ideal way to combine my skills and interests in critical thinking and problem solving. So as to be successful when thinking critically and solving problems, I will at times rely on my sales and management experience and knowledge. This knowledge allows me to communicate on a level which may be more compatible than that of an academic approach. Also, I am particularly attracted to the opportunity to work closely with individuals.

About Helen:
I am a Lecturer in Further Education and work with learners between the ages of 14 -19 year old . I also have experience of working with primary school ages.

Teaching Experience:

I have 4 years teaching experience and have experience of teaching learners who find they have barriers to learning and find it sometimes difficult to understand what is expected of them to complete the relevent work required.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a patient approach to tutoring and will work at the learners own pace. I establish what difficulties the learner has in the subject that they are requiring help with and try to break down any barriers that they may have. I explain to learners what it is they are expected to do in easier instructions and ensure that learners understand what they are expected to do before moving on to the next step. Wherever possible I will give everyday examples so that the learner will see things from a different angle and will therfore find the subject easier to understand.

About Natalia:
I am a Russian PhD student in Social Anthropology, with a first degree in teaching History (Russian PGCE equivalent). I have recently moved to Cambridge with my husband who started a job in the University here. I am very happy to teach my native language, as well as German, which I speak fluently, because I love to absorb myself into other languages.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as a private tutor in Germany for one year (2006-2007). The tutees were several individuals who wanted to brush up their Russian for various reasons: e.g. graduates wanting to get into the German Diplomatic Service, engineers getting a job in joint ventured oil-field explorations.
Currently I run my private classes in Cambridge for a business client who expanded it's services to Russia. Their goal is to enable their employees to make a good impression by knowing the language when dealing and negotiating with Russian clients. As the classes are a huge success, I am looking to widen my teaching activities in Cambridgeshire.

Tutoring Approach:

I adapt to the required level of level of language teaching by assessing your experience first, to make sure you will get the most out of our classes. You can also determine what rate of learning you prefer. Complete beginners will start learning Russian with the cyrillic alphabet and will soon be able to read essential information (street names, tube stations) when travelling to Russia. For German learners we will start directly with the next step: introducing oneself to a native speaker and expressing thoughts/wishes follow in the program.
Thus you will be able to communicate effectively from the first few lessons on.

For the beginners classes, we will work with the book "Okno" (publisher: Klett Verlag).

More advanced learners can determine their own emphasis between the main components of language: Grammar, Phonetics, Reading and Speaking. As the student becomes more advanced they should have an idea of what skills are most important to him, e.g. we could read the russian world classics in literature, discuss news and politcs from the "Russian world" or try harder in getting the pronounciation just perfect!

About Rebecca:
I have just qualified as a teacher from Canterbury Christ Church University and I am now excited and very enthusiastic about teaching.
I live in Huddersfield in Yorkshire now but I am willing to travel long distances to tutor.
I am currently looking for a part-time teaching job so I can carry on private tutoring, as I have always wanted to help people who are struggling at school.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching from the age of 15, where I volunteered to work in my local primary school, I then continued to return to the school until I was 17 years old, whenever I had free periods from college.
Whilst at University I worked with deprived children over a long weekend, to give them drama skills.
After obtaining my degree I got an acting job travelling around Barnsley, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent, promoting safe sex by doing a theatre in education play. This was done with 13 to 15 year olds and after every performance we would do workshops with the children.
On my P.G.C.E course I did two long placements, my first was in an affluent area of Ramsgate in a reception class and the second was in a deprived area of Canterbury in a year two class. I passed both placements with both good and excellent marks.

Tutoring Approach:

Even though I am offering reading and writing tuition for primary school children I have experienced older children and adults who also struggle with these essential skills. I would therefore love to help whoever I could, as not everyone finds reading and writing easy.
I use the sounds write approach, which is a mixture of jolly phonics and the blending of letters together to make words. This, in my experience, has created very positive results in learning to read and write.

About Simon:
I have an academic background and over 17 years' experience in industry. My first degree was in Physics with subsidiary Maths, as part of the Natural Sciences Tripos at Cambridge University. I worked for a year as a laboratory physicist on image intensifiers for the US Space Telescope, and subsequently did research in astronomy at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, leading to a D.Phil. from Sussex University.

After a brief period in industry, I moved abroad to work as a computer software contractor at the European Space Agency's (ESA's) operations centre in Germany. For the following 10 years, I was a professional software engineer working in both the UK and in Germany on various satellite-related projects, for ESA, for the German Space Agency, for the British MoD and for the European Meteorological Satellite organisation.

I then worked for 2 years as a computational physicist at BAe, engaged in the design of two scientific research satellites for ESA. I was a member of a team designing the on-board "AOCS": systems that sense and control the satellites' orientations in space.

Following this, I changed career direction and went to work for 4 years in the City of London for a series of investment banks.

Since returning to Bath, I have worked as a volunteer at an environmental charity and done some software development for a private client and for a company near Wells.

There may be more details on my website: simoncaldwell.eu.

Teaching Experience:

During my research degree I taught classroom 'A'-level physics and 'A'-level maths for a time, at a private school.

I have been a physics tutor since Spring 2006.

Tutoring Approach:

In teaching I aim to combine an old-fashioned structured approach with the best of modern clarity and imagery.

About Jessica:
I finished university last year and since then have been working in Honduras and Chile. I have returned to Bristol to start a Masters in Biology at the University of Bristol. I am passionate about my subject, focussing mainly on ecology and behaviour but with a sound knowledge of most areas.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching sailing, windsurfing and English as a foreign language. I am confident in my teaching abilities and my knowledge of both biology and Spanish. I have experience of teaching English as a foreign language in England and Chile and have found it rewarding and enjoyable for both the tutees and myself.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very patient and caring person and aim to make lessons fun and relaxed. I encourage questions as I feel that school teaching often prohibits students from asking important questions. I understand that everyone learns differently and I tailor classes specifically to the tutee's needs and personality. This includes teaching intensively or in a more relaxed manner, with homework or without. I can provide advice on writing and exam skills and I am happy to teach groups of up to 3 students if required.
