Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Christopher: I have been working as an office administrator and customer service representative over the past few years. I have been able to advance in my career through demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively both independently and collectively, while under pressure. My willingness to take initiative and my abilities to work independently and effectively, while under pressure have led to my interest in promoting learning within both private and public settings. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as a private teacher and tutor and recently earned a CELTA teaching certificate. The combination of these skills and qualifications allow me to not only work successfully alongside, but also communicate effectively, with people from different cultures, different backgrounds, and different ages. This certification has helped further complement my teaching skills, in that it has enhanced my already-strong ability to understand and effectively solve problems. Along with my administrative background, my CELTA certification enables me to maintain necessary efficiency and organization, and to establish and maintain rapport. |
Tutoring Approach: While earning my Master's degree in Literature, my interest in teaching has piqued. I feel that teaching is a personal, and necessary, inevitability. Teaching is an ideal way to combine my skills and interests in critical thinking and problem solving. So as to be successful when thinking critically and solving problems, I will at times rely on my sales and management experience and knowledge. This knowledge allows me to communicate on a level which may be more compatible than that of an academic approach. Also, I am particularly attracted to the opportunity to work closely with individuals. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Yiwei: My name is Jimmy Mao, I graduated Imperial College London's maths department in 2007 and now live near Kentish Town. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and regularly visit my parents who live in Beijing, though I was brought up in Britain. For my hobbies, I read voraciously and enjoy debating. In addition to this I really love cycling and in-fact cycle the 10 miles to and from Peckham, where I work everyday. |
Teaching Experience: I am an NQT year teacher teaching Mathematics at St Thomas the Apostle College as part of the TeachFirst scheme. My experience includes a wide range of abilities from foundation support sets to currently teaching the Fast-track year 11s Additional Maths and A-level modules. I have experience with teaching to a broad range of learning disabilities including autism, hearing difficulties and attention deficit disorders. I have had tutoring experience in the past and have mentored many pupils within schools during my University career. |
Tutoring Approach: Initially I would try to gauge the level of the pupil and then devise a plan according to the level descriptors and national strategy in how best to attain (and surpass) their targets. In subsequent sessions the first part will be a relatively quick consultation time where issues with class and homework are discussed. Afterwards we will work on some of the areas identified that the pupil needs extra help on. Finally to conclude each session a plenary/review of what we have learned this sessions and targets for next session are set. Depending on the regularity of the sessions, every few sessions we would review our progress towards our final goal and evaluate whether previously defined issues have been met and whether or not new areas of study have arisen. I would expect the pupil to have made some agreed preparation work prior to each tutoring session. |

| About Stuart: I am a 27 year old fully GTC registered primary school teacher and currently working in a primary school in Stirlingshire. I live in Glasgow's Southside and I am able to travel to most areas in the Glasgow area. |
Teaching Experience: I have a BSc Biomedical Sciences and a PGDE Primary Education from the University of Strathclyde. I have taught continuously since graduating in a variety of schools across Central Scotland. I have gained experience working in the Early Years, lower school and most recently have been a class teacher in the upper school. My experience has also allowed me to work with children with additional support needs and children requiring one-to-one teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: I am friendly and approachable and employ interactive methods in my teaching. In line with the new Scottish curriculum developments, I am aware of the need to put learning into context and everyday situations, especially for those children requiring extra support. I have high aspirations and expectations of the children I teach and help them to gain confidence in their own abilities through the use of praise and by breaking the learning and teaching into smaller manageable tasks. I believe that encouraging the children to ask questions and to think more in depth about their work encourages a greater level of understanding. |

Teaching Experience: I have been helping children with difficulties in a french secondary school for two years. I was in charge of several groups of pupils aged from 11 to 16, I was teaching different subjects, such as history, english, maths, french, geography. My aim was to find a way to make the pupils understand what they had missed in their courses. I have been working with children for 8 years in different area; as a group leader, as a teacher, as a student in psychology, as a baby-sitter. I have a french diploma in children care, I have a degree in psychology. |
Tutoring Approach: The best way to learn a language is to enjoy it, to feel it like a way to communicate with different people. I think it is really essential to like the way you are learning, that will make you improve quickly and easily! I am able to give classical french courses but I really do think that tutoring is a place for something different. It seems to be the perfect time to practise french for real and to share all the knowledge of this language. |

I am very eager to start a position where the rewards are couched in human educational and social development rather than simply in 'perks' or commission. I am the kind of person who can carries himself well in social environments and am good humored and enthusiastic. I like to think I transfer that to the people I work with. |
Teaching Experience: I have had experience working with children at a community center in Cornwall. This required the ability to engage young children in various arts and crafts projects. I also tutored my younger brother through GCSE English language in which he achieved an A grade. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to thoroughly appraise myself of a given candidates syllabus and marking criteria beforehand and spend one on one time demonstrating how course material relates to that criteria. This enables a candidate to approach assessment with something like a formula, method or checklist which allows them to maximize their grade potential. |

| About Enrico: Enrico Bertelli (Montebelluna (TV - ITA) 29/08/1984 - ) Italian Percussionist, Musicologist. Deeply interested in Contemporary Music, with a special emphasis on the Percussion music repertory. A rich background mixes the theoretical preparation achieved through university, with the instrumental skills gained through intense studies at the Conservatoire and at the various master classes. Since moving to the UK, worked closely with composers, investigating the possibilities of percussion instruments and trying to push the conventional boundaries. This demonstrated by work with composer Jack White in the duo Percatronics for percussion instruments and live electronics. Firmly convinced of the importance of an informed performance, constantly approaches every piece both as a performer and as a musicologist. This duality helps achieve a better understanding of the music and enables communicating with the audience with sounds and words. The current PhD in Contemporary Performance - Percussion at York University, follows an MA in Performance Studies at Cardiff University (Distinction), BA in TARS - Tecniche Artistiche e dello Spettacolo at Ca'Foscari University - Venice and Diploma in Strumenti a Percussione at the Conservatorio di Verona both with top marks. | About sheelagh: I am a middle aged lady who is good at encouraging unconfident learners because I am kind. I am very enthusiastic about the English language, culture and literature and I try to impart this enthusiasm to my students. I try to incorporate practical activities into my lessons if possible. For example, when I was teaching my students to use the imperative form for instructions, I made a trifle with them, kept it in the fridge overnight, asked them to decorate it the next day and then we shared it with another class. |
Teaching Experience: Mixed secondary school - one year teaching English to 11-16 year olds Comprehensive school - five years teaching Business Studies and Shorthand to 14-18 year olds. I taught Shorthhand at evening classes to adults for one year. I taught ESOL to asylum seekers, refugees and foreign students for five years. |
Tutoring Approach: Friendly and positive. I try to make it enjoyable and relevant and to choose topics that interest individual students whenever possible. I use games, puzzles, songs and authentic material which I adapt as well as the standard textbooks. I learn a lot from the students and I am constantly revising my ideas, methods and approach as a result of this. |
