Teaching Experience: I have helped a lot of pupils in the past to reach their objectives successfully. They also enjoyed it as much as I did as I had some of them coming back the next year. Tutoring Approach: I feel that there is no better way to learn a language than by actually speaking it with a native speaker. I have worked with pupils from all levels in the past so don't be shy!! I also believe that everybody needs a personalized approach depending to their needs and objectives and level from beginners to very advanced. I can provide students with a variety of material and at a time and place convenient to them. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Ffiona: I am a 24 year old who works as a freelance presenter of day-long revision and memory skills workshops in schools across the UK. I really enjoy travelling to different parts of the country and the challenge of delivering a workshop to each new group. Each day is very different and I never cease to be surprised! I also work part-time on other projects: I am working on a documentary at the moment and organise arts-based campaign events for young people. I tutored throughout my time at university as I really enjoy teaching and using my language skills. I grew up in Belgium and France so am fluent in French. I studied French as my first language in the International Baccalaureat (equivalent to A-Levels). I am also fluent in Spanish, having lived in Spain and Ecuador. I studied Spanish as part of my university course and spent a year studying at the Law Department of the University of Girona. I would like to tutor in French, Spanish or study skills. My study skills seminars focus on learning about how the mind works, how each individual student's mind works and helping each person to apply this knowledge to find the best way for them to study. |
Teaching Experience: I tutored in French and Spanish throughout my time at university, I have taught students from age 10 right through to university level. I taught English as a second language to adults during my year at the University of Girona. I work as a freelance presenter in schools, delivering workshops on memory & revision techniques. I have worked in a number of schools in London delivering Arts-based Citizenship workshops. |
Tutoring Approach: I really enjoy tutoring and have worked in a number of very diffrent environments, from delivering seminars in schools which have a very formal approach to working with university students who wanted a more informal style of tutoring. I am therefore happy to adapt to your choice of style. Having been trained in revision techniques I am aware of the very different styles of learning that people may have and the importance of understanding this. I can adapt my style of tutoring to your style of learning. I am regularly involved in Film and Theatre projects so I can have quite a creative style of tutoring, finding ways to make the subject more engaging, relevant or understandable to you. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About alice: I graduated from the University of Bath in 2004 with an MBiol (combined BSc and MSc) in Molecular and Cellular Biology, for which I obtained first class honours. Since then I have been working in a biochemical research laboratory at Harvard Medical School and have obtained several publications. I have recently started an MSc in Genetic Counselling at Manchester University, but will be living in London most of the week, and therefore available for tutoring most week nights and also on weekends. I will also be available for tutoring during the daytime in school holidays. I have a mainly biological background, however I also did Chemistry and Maths to A-Level (and obtained A grades for both of these) and I took some Chemistry classes for my undergraduate degree. I am responsible and reliable and have good communication skills. |
Teaching Experience: I started tutoring last year and since then have worked with 14 students ranging from 10 to 16 years old. The subjects I have had taught include Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths. I have worked with students both on a regular basis to help them as they progress through their year, and on a more short term, intensive level in order to help prepare them for exams. I also worked for 3 months as a volunteer in a school for children with special needs. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel that one of the most important things is to make the subject exciting and interesting for the student, as this will make them much more receptive to teaching and will make it easier for them to learn, understand and remember the concepts. I also think that the approach taken to teaching will vary depending on the personality and abilities of each student, for example problem solving examples may work better for some students, whereas a more theory based lesson will work better for others. I think it is important for the student to have consistency in their tutoring, and I will be available over the next 2 years and therefore will be able to take on long term students. |

| About Alfred: I recently graduated from Oxford University with a first class degree in French and Philosophy. I am currently studying for a Masters at UCL. I am keen to share my enthusiasm for my subject. I would also be very willing to help students prepare for Oxbridge Interviews in French, Philosophy or indeed any Humanities subject. An experienced teacher and mentor, I am well placed to help both those students who feel they need extra help and those who wish to develop their academic potential beyond the confines of the school curriculum. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English as a foreign language to children of all ages (4-18) in China. I have also tutored students one on one in France. I also have experience as a mentor for a student experiencing difficulties at school, again in France. |
Tutoring Approach: I am keen to develop the students' passion for the subject, using material geared to their interests and abilities. I believe good grammar and vocabulary are important, but that it is first essential to bring a language alive. I like to do considerable work on speaking fluency and building confidence. However, I will of course tailor lessons to the needs of the individual student, and am well aware, for instance, of the rigors of the grammatical tests students face in Oxford entrance exams. With regard to interview preparation, I believe it is most important to work on targeted extra curricular reading and confidence in an interview setting. |

| About Christy: Christy Thrower is an experienced, versatile and charismatic teacher and performer. In 1999 she graduated with a BMus from the University of Auckland, and in 2000 gained a PGradDipTchg(Music) from Auckland College of Education. She has taught the flute and other instruments for thirteen years in a variety of settings, to students aged 2 - 82, and also sings professionally. In 2001, she was awarded the Dorothy Wiseman Cup for Most Promising Vocal Performance in the South Auckland Performing Arts Competitions, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. In 2003 and 2004 she was co-producer of "Variety Show with a Difference", which included some of her students playing their own compositions, and was partially funded by Creative New Zealand. She has been living in London since May 2007. |
Teaching Experience: Christy ran a successful private music-teaching business for over ten years in Auckland, New Zealand; and has also been employed to teach group and/or individual classes by: Adam's Performing Arts Academy; Glenfield Music Education Centre; the Ministry of Education (at several schools), and Kirk Bernand and Brown Music - where she was band director at three schools, as well as instrument tutor. In 2001 she was employed at Hibiscus Coast Intermediate School as class music teacher and choir and band director. Her private students consistently do well in Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall examinations. |
Tutoring Approach: As well as offering flute, singing, theory, recorder, keyboard and beginner piano lessons, Christy can tutor you in any of the following areas: - additional help (eg. outside of school-time instrumental lessons) for practical OR theory examinations, with Trinity/Guildhall or Royal Schools of Music - additional help with any aspect of GCSE, A-level or similar music courses, including coaching on successful performing techniques for assessed performances - beginner lessons also available in most brass and woodwind instruments - offering you an excellent start in all aspects; breathing, embouchure, tone, posture, music reading and musicianship. The success of her teaching business in Auckland was largely due to word of mouth, as clients were impressed with her encouraging, yet firm and motivating manner, and her effective communication with children and adults alike. She is especially experienced in helping students with breathing, tone, embouchure and postural issues, and difficulties with fluency in music reading. Lessons can be at your home depending on location. Group and individual lessons available. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Susan: With very strong communication skills, I have a real passion for technology, particularly programming. Having worked in a variety of environments since graduating from my original degree (in English) in 1999, I have developed the ability to relate well to a wide range of people. Currently, I work as a freelance Web and Multimedia applications developer, as well as tutoring for a few hours per week. I enjoy the satisfaction that comes with helping people to realise their potential (and often to surprise themselves). |
Teaching Experience: Having completed my Masters in Information Technology at Glasgow University in 2007, I've recently worked as a Demonstrator and Tutor for university students learning Java Programming, Database development and basic Computer Systems topics. The students on this very intense course come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds and across a considerable age-range, many speaking English as a second language. The teaching experience was both challenging and highly rewarding, with many of the students who had initially struggled with the subjects thanking me for my involvement in helping them get to grips with the various exercises. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that an effective teaching relationship relies on communication and patience. My approach is to encourage and facilitate the students' understanding by guiding them towards arriving at a solution themselves, rather than simply telling them what to do and hoping that they remember! I've found that learning in this way enhances a student's understanding, sense of achievement and confidence, which is particularly important with practical or technical subjects. The subject that I have most experience in teaching is initial Java Programming/ Object Oriented Development. I am happy to prepare structured lesson plans for students working to a particular course of study or to take a more casual approach if that suits. |

| About Mary: I write and am involved in the production of study guides for public exam students in the UK and abroad. My particular interests lie in all things literary - both reading and writing - drama and media. As a former Head of Sixth Form, I am familiar with the requirements of further and higher education, and am practised in the preparation of students for selection. I have experience as an examiner. |
Teaching Experience: I have wide experience in independent and state (selective and comprehensive) schools, and of tutoring school, undergraduate and adult students. I regularly teach the syllabuses of all the exam boards in England. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is friendly and sympathetic, but focused. It is vital always to keep the demands of the student's course in mind. Besides working on specific assignments and building understanding through discussion, most students like the opportunity to ask questions and revisit points, so I am flexible about the pace and direction of study, matching it to the individual. All work is more enjoyable, and progress easier, when problem areas are smooth! |

I am very dedicated and passionate about teaching, which is very transparent to my students and I believe this to be reason for my success in teaching science. I am a firm believer that all students have the ability to succeed but some need more guidance than others. |
Teaching Experience: In my years of teaching i have covered key stage 3 (SATS) and GCSE up to A-level. I have taught students with a huge range of abilities. To achieve success, I have used an array of teaching methods including but not limited to; I.T, auditory, visual and kinestic learning techniques. I consider myself a very creative teacher, during the last year I have set up forums for discussing science topics with other students as well as making Podcasts available for download. This has proved extremely successful, as far as being mentioned in a national science magazine. During the last few years I exceeded target grades set by the school for both KS3 and KS4. I believe this stems from my passion for the subject and my creativity in my teaching methods. |
Tutoring Approach: Over the last three years of tutoring i have seen a significant improvement in all my students. Improving in science is not just about gaining the extra knowledge but gaining the confidence to explore the field by being creative and using ones imagination. By tutoring students as individuals, it has allowed me to identify their weaknesses and improve on them. I use methods that are appropriate to the students learning style, so I can help them fulfil their potential. |

| About Roisin: I am a 24 year old Irish woman who is currently training to be an actress at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Before moving to London, I have been involved in a wide variety of things. I studied Law and International Relations before living in China for six months and then returning to Ireland to begin drama classes. I am a major music fan who idolises Bob Dylan and love the band Kings of Leon. I love watching films and reading, and loved living in Barcelona for a summer a few years ago which allowed me to spend most of my time in the sea. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English as a Foreign Language to children in China and to teenage and adult learners in Ireland. This also involved one-on-one classes. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe in adapting my style to suit the learner as the most important thing is to engage him/her in what they are studying. I find that once they are interested in a subject, everything flows from there. As a drama student I tend to use creativity to make things more fun. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Elena: I am originally from Germany and hold an university degree for teaching. Later, I also studied Business Management at the Dresden University (Maths, Marketing and Finance Management) |
Teaching Experience: I have always been working with children and adults. In 1993 I took part in the restoration of an old watermill in Dresden and co-founded there a cultural centre. Although the centre was event orientated we also run various courses for children and adults. In 2003 I moved to Bournemouth and worked as a School Bursar until last year. I now work from home and tutor private pupils. |
Tutoring Approach: Maths: Maths is NOT boring, maths is fun and exciting. Don't believe me? Give it a try... I am sure you will learn to love maths as I do. I finished a special grammar school for gifted children in maths and won as pupil a few maths competitions. I succeded to get a job as a School Bursar in Bournemouth, in 2003, not speaking English fluently, because of maths... Maths opens the entire world for you... IT: A computer is nothing else than an extremely advanced typewriter with loads of ecxiting functions. If you need to increase your confidence in using a computer or wish to learn some advanced features, I can help you to get more out of Windows applications, e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and I can also help you to find your way round the Internet. Languages: I believe the best way to learn a language is when the tutor communicates with you in the language you wish to learn. It may not always be easy but it helps one to grasp the language and pick it up much quicker. Also beneficial to learn a language are lots of games and various actvities, never boring, but always in in the language you wish to learn... In one-to-one sessions, I like to work in a relaxed environment, helping students to focus on individual needs and building self-confidence. First session is FREE as a trial and after this you can always drop out if you believe it's not beneficial for you or for any other reason. However I am sure that you will stay and enjoy... The fee is not set in stone and I am open to negotiation especially when you wish to have a long term agreement. |

| About Steven, Patrick, James: I am a teacher by nature. I care deeply about the French language and helping people who struggle with the language to know that it can be easy. I put in 100% effort and if I can exceed 100% then that's great but if I cannot I know when it's time to move on. I have high expectations from people and from myself. |
Teaching Experience: During my four months living and working in France, I helped many of my French colleagues with their French. Furthermore during my first year in college, I gave lessons to a Leaving Certificate honours student again in French and he did quite well. |
Tutoring Approach: I am compassionate and allow people their time to figure it out for themselves. However, nothing is more important than hard work and I believe if you are in a classroom you are there to learn. With regard to the French language, one must work on pronunciation and getting the basics right before you proceed to the next level. I am fair but strict when I have to. There is nothing worse than non-participation and everyone regardless of level should get involved. This is applied to all type classes. |

Teaching Experience: I have at least two years teaching experience. My father is a chemistry professor who has been tutoring students for years. Most of my students at present are undergoing exams. I first started teaching within a tutoring group and then recently began private tutoring in the north west London area. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to teaching is to be patient, gentle, but be slightly stern and emphasis the importance of private study. Initially I like to assess the student to find out their weaknesses within the subject. When that has been established, I then like to target those areas in depth while making sure then are confident in the the areas they apparently know. I like to give advice to the student about the education system and try and build up confidence and a friendship with the student. |

| About Billy: I am a Univeristy of Edinburgh Physics 3rd Year student, and have completed Mathematics & Further Mathematics A-Level, and Physics A-Level. I am outgoing, responsible, and a reliable tutor. I am committed to teaching these amazing subjects to the benefit of others. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored certain aspects of these subjects up to degree level to different university students. |
Tutoring Approach: I start of by talking to the student/parents, and look at the areas of the curriculum that most need work. An initial session is given on one of the sections, and a plan is presented along with any deadlines related to exams. The plan is then then cross-checked as the student undergoes their study, and can be presented at any time to view the current progress. I adopt an easy going but effective teaching method to deliver the content to the student in a manner which is coherent, and understandable. |

| About Chris: I have recently graduated with a First Class Hons BA degree in History. I specialise in Early Modern Europe, 20th Century War and Conflict, and Social and Religious Movements throughout the Ages. Although I do not limit myself to one school of thought I enjoy researching using a mixture of Modernist, Marxist, and Psychoanalytic Methods. I am a full time MA student studying social and cultural history, whilst working full time and am also a devoted husband and father of two young girls. |
Teaching Experience: I have yet to take on any students, but am ready and willing to start my tutoring. I think you will find my rates to be far below the going rate, and I am prepared to match any legitimate quote. I have achieved a First Class Hons BA, so rest assured I am quite knowledgeable in this field, and hold fantastic references from some of the very best in this field of study. |
Tutoring Approach: I encourage discussion and analysis of primary sources. I will be fair and age appropriate with my expectations, however the only true way to succeed is hard work, and I am willing to get stuck in with my pupils. |
