| About Jay: Hello everyone, I am a private tutor with a degree in Economics and Finance from one of UK's top universities. I have also recently qualified as an Accountant. I achieved a Distinction in my dissertation and for most of my project work. Hence I can be of great help particularly to students during their coursework and dissertation stages. I am able to help students by breaking difficult techniques into step-by-step methods that are easy to follow, together with a sound understanding of the underlying concepts. I am able to test my students' understanding by setting my own original questions tailored to the current level of each particular student. As tutoring is my profession, I have taught many more students than a part-time evening tutor would have, and hence I have a great deal of teaching experience. I offer a range of teaching services in addition to 1-to-1 lessons. Please contact me by email Thanks! Jay |

| About Safaa: Hello, My name is Safaa. I am French and have been living in the UK for 11 years. |
Teaching Experience: I worked as a Learning Mentor for 4 years, supporting Year 8 & 9 students with their revision and study skills and helping them prepare for their SAT examinations. I have taught French and Spanish at Newcastle College. I currently work part-time as a supply teacher, teaching RE and Citizenship at KS3. |
Tutoring Approach: When tutoring I focus on study skills as much as the subject itself, as I have often found that pupils find it hard to revise, simply because they haven't been taught how to. I will always spend 5-10 minutes at the end of a language lesson showing my tutees strategies to help them revise and remember what they have just learned. I adapt my lessons to each individual pupil, based on their specific needs. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Ashley: My name is Ashley, I'm an 19 year old girl who's in her second year of a Masters Degree in Physics with Astronomy at the University of Southampton. My grade for Year 1 is a First. I live in Southampton during term time and holidays (Kent Road, SO17). I am willing to tutor during either time! I am a bubbly, friendly character, definitely a people-person, but I love my subject and feel I have a good balance of sensible yet fun which makes learning enjoyable yet effective! |
Teaching Experience: I unfortunately have no formal experience but on a casual level I have always enjoyed helping friends and classmates when they are struggling with their work. Earlier on in my education, I was quite ahead of my classmates (which led me to being moved up a year as I entered Parkstone Grammar School), and this occasionally led to my teachers asking me to help them with the class. In all, I would say that I have a reasonable amount of experience for someone my age! |
Tutoring Approach: In essence, I suppose the aim of tutoring is to improve a student's understanding and aptitude for a subject. However, I would like to think that I try and offer something more. My specialist area of interest are Astronomy and Particle Physics, but I love Physics as a whole and I really think it is a shame that so many people don't get the chance to really appreciate it as a subject. (The reason I also offer Maths is that, although I do not fundamentally enjoy it as much as Physics, Maths IS fundamental in itself and in order to study Physics I must maintain a good grasp of it - after all, as they say, at University; Physics is Maths! Once it 'clicks', it is beautiful!) Nearly everyone I know severely disliked both Physics and Maths in school. Often it is perceived as hard, but especially lately the teaching style has changed quite dramatically at certain levels in an attempt to improve students' interest; it does not seem to be working. Perhaps it is simply the case that the student does not connect well with their teacher - I know from experience how possible this is and how badly it hinders one's grasp of the subject at hand. Clearly, there can be a lot of struggling when it comes to learning these subjects, and while I can't single-handedly solve the problem, I hope to ignite some sort of enthusiasm in younger students - whether it is by helping them see that what they are studying IS used by professional scientists, or later on in their education to study fantastic phenomena; or whether it is just by explaining it in that slightly different way that makes it all suddenly *click*. Perhaps it is the case that the student has a passion for the subject but it just isn't clicking - yet! Under all that wild ambition; my simple strategy is regular tutoring sessions that will thoroughly cover the syllabus in a coherent progression - jumbling up or going too fast are to be avoided! |

| About Haydn: I am degree qualified in Electronic Engineering. I love maths and fortunately my electronics course was predominately maths based. I work as a Movie Camera Engineer in West London. |
Teaching Experience: I am relatively new to tutoring though for the past 3 years I have been an assistant to an adult's maths evening course, which I continue to do voluntarily. These adults have, for varied reasons, missed out on maths when younger. For me to now assist the younger generation in their mathematical development will, in some part, ensure adulthood is reached with a much happier footing in this diverse subject. |
Tutoring Approach: My passion for maths and the understanding of how important this subject is in later career paths; this is what I have to offer students. It is a very challenging subject but it is so rewarding to get the methods and formulas cracked, whilst keeping it fun! Encouragement, patience and a free trial lesson. |

| About Khansa: I am currently studying BSc in Politics and Economics at degree level, who finds it easy to relate to students regarding their studies. I am a patient and determined person, who is willing to do that extra bit to make sure that the student i teach has understood the subject/topic properly. I enjoy aerobics and a range of sports, including tennis. I also speak two languages fluently, English and Arabic. |
Teaching Experience: I have been tutoring primary and high school children for a while, in a variety of subjects. I also teach arabic on the weekends. |
Tutoring Approach: I approach tutoring in a serious way and manner, making sure that at the end of the lesson the student has understood the top/subject properly. I can give advice to students regarding coursework, exams, time managment...based on my personal experiences. When i teach i prefer to make the lesson interesting by introducing simplifying examples that the student is likely to remember. I think it is very important to not only learn the material but to understand it, and this is where i bring in examples and try to simplify the situation down. Tracking progress is vital and this is why i usually give small tests on the topic at the end of each lesson to have an understanding of how the student is getting along with understanding the topic and also for them to see the areas that they need to improve on. During my lessons i refer to a wide range of material, including books and any useful publicatons produced by the exam board, such as past paper questions. |

Teaching Experience: I have taught both private and group classes in many schools around Staffordshire, working with pupils from 4 up to 19 years of age. My key areas are English, Drama, Singing and Art. |
Tutoring Approach: I am extremely friendly tutor, tailoring my teaching style to fit the needs of each individual pupil. I believe an informal environment is always more pleasurable to work in and more often than not it promotes learning, as the pupil feels at ease. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Anna: I'm a recent graduate and am very enthusiastic about my subjects (French and English literature and language, and History). I'm spending a year in between degrees and would like the opportunity to go over my own knowledge and help pupils of any ages learn either for exams or for personal interest. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored primary children with learning difficulties and taught music in India, both to large groups and one on one. My mother is a teacher and I have access to a wide range of teaching resources, as well as a thorough knowledge of the Scottish exam system. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that a one-on-one dialogue is the most effective way of learning and of building confidence in the pupil's own abilities. For exams, understanding the system and working out exactly what is required for each paper is more efficient that merely learning vast amounts of facts, and this can be achieved by practice and discussion. |

Types of Tutoring: From their home
| About Jacob: I have recently graduated with a First Class Honours Chemistry Masters degree from Southampton University. This degree has given me the relevant background to provide an excellent standard of teaching in exam preparation for students studying A-level Chemistry (or equivalent). I studied Biology, Chemistry and Economics at A-level and gained 3 A grades. Additionally, I gained an A at A/S level in Physics. |
Teaching Experience: My teaching history includes six months work experience at a local secondary school dealing with one-to-one tuition with class members. Additionally, I have tutored members of my degree course in lower years. |
Tutoring Approach: For me, this depends solely on the student I am teaching. I do not believe in a 'one-size fits all' approach. All students are different and are receptive to different methods. I believe that a tutor who is not flexible in their approach is a poor one. |

| About Jan: A recent graduate with a passion for sciences, who enjoys Friendly and easy going, I am a good communicator with pleantly of patience and enthusiasm. |
Teaching Experience: Helped several students pass GCSE maths when I had left school. |
Tutoring Approach: Although it is important to go at a pace suitable for the student, it is also necessary to set deadlines for mastery of elements of the subject. these deadlines should be agreed between student and tutor so that a clear path of achievement can be planned. For science subjects such as maths and chemistry, it is important to relate the sometimes abstract concepts to real life through examples and analogies. |
