About Charmayne:
Hi, My name is Charlie and I am 20.
I've been tutoring since I was about 15, ranging from helping little ones to learn how to read and write, to helping my brother and sister and their friends pass their GCSEs, as well as their AS levels.

I am currently tutoring a 5 year old, and do wish to have older students as well, because although I love teaching the little ones, I do feel the need to teach older children also.

I am more than willing to combine Tutoring and babysitting within the MK area, as I have been doing lately, as this seems to work better for a lot of people.

Teaching Experience:

Since the age of 15 I have regulary been a volunteer teaching assistant at a number of Local schools, not all in MK though.

And whilst at school we had a mentor system, and I mentored 2 younger pupils, whether it was help with school work or bullying problems, problems at home, or if they just wanted someone to talk to.

As I've said above, I am recently tutoring a 5 year old, and soon to be his younger brother, with reading and writing, and have experience with tutoring children ages 5 to 15, with English and Maths mainly, but more recently website design and history.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring, is different for every child, as no one is the same.
Basically I have to make them feel comfortable around me, but not too comfortable, enough for them to know that I know whats right, and they can get it wrong, I won't tell them off, but explain where is it wrong, and let them try again.

Tutoring is about giving the child more of a chance to succeed well, with one-on-one attention, rather than being in a class, and maybe being ignored, or not given the help they require.

About Richard:
I am a thirty year old teacher who is committed to the success of all my students, within and outside school.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English for six years in a large secondary school in Wiltshire. I have delivered the English curriculum across the age and ability range, with successful results at GCSE and A-Level. I have taught English, English Literature and Media Studies, and am also an Assistant Examiner for GCSE English Literature, giving me an excellent insight into the workings of exam boards and the requirements of the syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a committed and professional teacher, and pride myself on seeing my students perform well at all levels of education. I have a good degree from Cardiff University and am able to support and stretch the most academic of students. However, I am also approachable and supportive and enjoy helping students who find the subject more difficult to achieve their maximum potential. I see the study of English as absolutely key to an individual's future success. Good communication skills are vital in today's competitive employment market, and core English skills lie at the heart of communication, be it oral or written. I am also committed to the importance of English Literature, as a way of facilitating access to the rich and diverse culture(s) which surround us. I believe that literary study can not only allow engagement with the dominant British culture, but enrich understanding and appreciation of other cultures and traditions.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught people in an internal school tutoring/monitoring system. I am also a calified Rugby coach and have coached for 3 years.

I have also taken on the responsibility of "Science is Fun" days held annually at the school.

About Laura:
Hello. My name is Laura Tracanna. I am 25 years old. I was born in Italy and moved with my family to the UK at the age of 4. I am trilingual. I speak Italian and English to the same level and I am also fluent in French as I did a BA in Modern Foreign Languages at Westminster University. I qualified from the University of Westminster in 2005 and then did a little travelling and then returned to university in London to continue my studies. I studied for my pgce primary school qualification with French specialism. I am now a qualified primary school teacher and although I trained primarily to teach Key Stage 2, I have been teaching a class of 30 reception children and have loved it. I really enjoy working within the foundation stage. What I do miss however, is using my languages in my everyday work hence my interest in tutoring.
I also had to acquire a different language at a young age and although I was very young and acquisition was fairly subconscious, I understand the difficulties encountered in learning and I am very good at encouraging different approaches which help overcome these difficulties.
I am young and have been told that as a teacher, I am extremely kind and patient.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a nanny and tutor for various families in London while I was a student. I tutored the children of foreign families. I taught French and Italian as well as helping them with their homework.
I completed a PGCE primary qualification at Greenwich University and have just completed my first year of teaching which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I taught a Reception class of 30 children. I was responsible for the planning and delivery of all curriculum subjects. I was also responsible for planning for children with special needs and developing my own assessment strategies.
I led my class towards achieving all the Early Learning Goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I truly believe in making learning fun where possible but I understand that some things just need to be learnt and however they are approached, can prove quite tricky for some students.
I believe in positive reinforcement and getting to know the student as much as possible. I believe that recognising the areas of difficulty and of interest of each student is essential when delivering lessons.
In terms of tutoring, I try to focus initially on areas of interest or required areas of study of my student. I like to get feedback on my own lessons and ask if how a student's learning could be maximised in any way.
I try to vary my lessons so they are not monotonous and always delivered from a textbook or a notebook. I make my own resources at times and try to base lessons in deifferent locations.
I believe in being honest. the tutee needs to feel comfortable to tell me what works for them and vice versa.

About Mary:
I write and am involved in the production of study guides for public exam students in the UK and abroad. My particular interests lie in all things literary - both reading and writing - drama and media. As a former Head of Sixth Form, I am familiar with the requirements of further and higher education, and am practised in the preparation of students for selection. I have experience as an examiner.

Teaching Experience:

I have wide experience in independent and state (selective and comprehensive) schools, and of tutoring school, undergraduate and adult students. I regularly teach the syllabuses of all the exam boards in England.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is friendly and sympathetic, but focused. It is vital always to keep the demands of the student's course in mind. Besides working on specific assignments and building understanding through discussion, most students like the opportunity to ask questions and revisit points, so I am flexible about the pace and direction of study, matching it to the individual. All work is more enjoyable, and progress easier, when problem areas are smooth!

About Tracy:
I am a 40 year old ethusiastic and experienced English and Media Studies tutor, who has a good track record in motivating pupils and helping them to cahieve their potential. I have ten years experience in an FE college and 5 years experience as a personal tutor - teaching all ages from 11 - 65!
I tailor sessions not only to the syllabus but to the interests and needs of the pupil.

Teaching Experience:

10 years as a tutor in Liverpool Community College, teaching English (up to 'A' Level), Media Studies (up to GCSE), Study Skills, Creative Writing, Literature Studies and Confidence Builing.
5 years as a personal tutor - working with pupils from 11-18 years old on an intensive one-to-one basis.
Some time spent teaching English in a fee-paying/private secondary school in Liverpool

Tutoring Approach:

I am knowledgeable, highly motivated, enthusiastic and relentlessly cheerful. I find that a positive 'can-do' attitude usually rubs off on the pupil. I aim to demystify and make accessible literature - especially for de-motivated and unsure/unconfident pupils. I particularly focus on pupils needs and strengths - which I use as a starting point in sessions.
I have had very positive feedback from both parents/carers and pupils themselves - and helped pupils move up beyond expected grades. I also genuinely like secondary school age children and teenagers. (I have two children of my own).

i am a hardworking and helpful individual and will try my best to help someone in any situation. I'm also a good listener and a very tolerant person

Teaching Experience:

I am currently part of a homework club that we run at my school where we help year 7 and 8 students with their homework after school. I'm also part of a reading buddy club where we help student with their reading at lunchtimes.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that you should be patient with a student when teaching them because not everyone can understand things as fast as others and may need extra time and help. I also feel that you should try more fun and easier methods of teaching so that the student will be able to understand more clearly and concentrate much better.

Subjects: Music
Availability: Weekends / Weekdays
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online

About Jonathan:
I am a 20 year old Student at Derby University, studying Popular Music with Music Technology. I considered friendly and get along with most everyone I meet. I am easy going, yet never at the expense of the task to which I'm charged. I am able to read music, as well as playing the piano, guitar, bass guitar and the drums to at least a beginner level. Music theory I am able to tutor to A Level standard.

Teaching Experience:

At this point, rather minimal I'm afraid. At this point I am trying to build up some experience in the field, but I promise you won't be disappointed. During my final year of 6th Form, I took part in a project aimed to get those in lower years, GCSE level and below, more involved in music and build their confidence. This group performed at several live concerts put on by the School, and was a highly enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Tutoring Approach:

In 2 words; hands on. I understand that the theoretical side of music can be a very tedious study, so I try to make it interesting, and dare I say it? Fun! Using hands on examples using instruments, as well as examples of both popular and classical music, I break the theory down and show how it's applied on a more practical and fun level, even using the student's favourite songs to illustrate the point in an enjoyable way.
