About Lisa:
I am a mother of 4 children, I have also worked professionally with children for over ten years. I worked and studied part-time for several years and I have a degree in childhood studies, a foundation degree in Early Years and Education, a University certificate in Health and Social Care and I have Qualified teacher status and an enhanced CRB check. I am currently studying for my masters degree in education.

As a parent I have experienced helping my own children ( aged 7 - 15) with their homework, revision for SATs, and also revision for 11+ exams. In addition to this, two of my own children have specific learning difficulties so I am aware of strategies to use to support children with special needs.

Teaching Experience:

Professionally I was initially a teaching support assistant, where I worked with both groups and individual children from year 1 to year 6 supporting them with different aspects of the curriculum. This included working with children with special educational needs. I then qualified as a teacher and I have taught in year one, year two, year three and year five. This has meant that I have taught all curriculum subjects at a variety of levels over the past few years. I work in an inner city school, and so have extensive experience of supporting children who have English as an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a calm and flexible approach to tutoring. I believe that a tutoring approach has to be child specific. Due to this I always take into account; where the child is currently academically, what the child's preferred learning style is, the child's strengths and weaknesses, and also their personality before I make any decisions on my specific approach.

About Sophie:
I am a University student currently in the final year of my degree, BSc (Comb Hons) Business Administration and Sociology.

I am a friendly, enthusiastic individual that have always connected well with the young people I have worked with.

I believe that tuition is a wonderful way for people to get the extra support they made need in certain topics. It builds confidence and gives someone the chance to get the thoroughly into a subject. With the ever increasing amount of exams in the Education system tuition can improve results and reduce exam stress.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously worked in a secondary school on a one to one basis with pupils there. While in this position I worked with pupils on behavioural and motivation issues. I tutored pupils on various subjects in particular English. This would everything from setting them tasks to build up essential skills (for example vocabulary or creative writing) to reviewing their homework and essay in more detail. I also set individual targets with them and provided information to help pupils plan their further education and/or future career.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe everyone can achieve the very best grades. It is simply a matter of find a way to relate to the topic.
Different people have different needs which is why tuition works so well. It allows work to be done at the ideal speed for the individual focusing on the areas that need work.

I also believe a positive attitude and some encouragement works wonders. Highlighting areas in a topic or skill where a person is doing admirably as well as pointing out areas that need work is essential in teaching.

About Daniel:
I am a trainee primary school teacher in university specialising in music. Myself being a trainee reflects on my cost per hour compared to other tutors. I would be happiest teaching music skills, however I would happy to do literacy, maths, science, music or I.T. at primary school level.

Musically I have a BTEC national diploma in music technology before starting my degree, I can play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I can currently accommodate guitar, bass and keyboards at basic levels and guitars at a slightly more advanced level. I would be happy to help out with GCSE music and have the music technology available to help pupils with their composition side of GCSE coursework allowing to record their compositions on their instruments, sing on their composition and have other instruments involved just by having keyboard and computer skills.

On a personal experience level I have been in bands since my days in school which has involved me releasing two digital singles with different labels, playing a major European music festival and touring other places around England and Wales.

Teaching Experience:

I am going in to the second year of my degree. I have undertaken placements in primary school which has involved me teaching units of maths, literacy and lessons of music. This year I will be taking another placement in a primary school along with doing some music based tutoring in groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I will teach children what they want to learn. Whether it is what they are currently doing at school or whether they are learning an instrument as a hobby. I will offer the children free recording of some of their lessons so they have something to show for their time spent learning and they can hear their progress and show off at home!

About Nowbaveh:
I graduated from University last July with a 2.1 in English Literature. However, I intend to return to University in a few years time to complete a Masters in Spanish Renaissance literature. I am 29, and have had interesting life experiences which include travelling the Middle and Far East when I was young with my father, living in London when I finished secondary school, and spending time in China during University.

I love music and am currently taking piano lessons. Also I love reading, and have a current passion for graphic novels and Russian literature.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience involves preparing students for the 2008 Higher and Intermediate 2 exams. I found that this experience taught me that tutoring must be tailored to the needs of the pupil while regarding the end goal. I believe my students got the most from my tutoring because of my friendly approach and ability to make concepts easy to understand.

I have a fresh experience of University where I was assistant Chairperson in the English Literature society, and can use this experience of responsibility and authority, and transfer it to my tutees. I also upheld a part time job while at college studying for my highers, and so can understand the pressures of modern life. This has taught me time management, prioritising skills and working to deadlines - all these skills I am eager to pass on to my tutees.

The new Curriculum for Excellence, soon to be implemented in schools throughout Scotland are focussed on teaching pupils life skills as well as academic, and my credentials and beliefs fit with these aims.

Tutoring Approach:

I am free to tutor evenings and weekends. I am also willing to travel to wherever you need so you can remain in the comfort of your own home - being comfortable and happy are an excellent foundation for happy studying. I am friendly, easy going, and encouraging which are three factors I believe are vital for a happy tutor-student relationship.

I can use my experience at school, college and University to develop my own personal tutor style by drawing on good and bad aspects of all the tutors I have had.

I am new to tutoring and so full of excitement at being involved in a person's development and success, but also eager to share my knowledge and expertise.

About Fatima:
I am a qualified Doctor of Medicine, and have worked as a manager in a local firm where my role was to teach employees english and the basic skills required for everyday living and work.

I am married and am currently available to teach during the week as well as weekends.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience in teaching children from the ages of 6 to 18 years of age. I have also been involved in teaching english and other skills to adults too.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to allow children the space to learn. I will initially go over a topic with the child online or at home and then set them certain tasks or questions to judge how much they have understood. after this we will go over the subject again, but this time i let the child explain things so i know they have full comprehension of the subject.

I do not pressurise the child but do set targets and give incentives to learn as we go along.
