Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Marco: I am in my late twenties. I studied separate degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering, but had always offered private tuition since I left school. In fact, I enjoyed teaching so much that I completed a Post-Grad Certificate in Education for Physics a few years ago, and am now a fully qualified secondary teacher working at a prestigious Public School. As far as tutoring goes, however, I think what matters is that I am down-to-Earth, and communicate well. All the knowledge in the world is useless if you can't share it! Having lived in South America for many years, I am also perfectly fluent in Spanish. My passions include photography, film and astronomy. |
Teaching Experience: I am a fully qualified secondary school Physics teacher, teaching KS3, GCSE and A-level Physics. I am therefore very much in touch with how GCSEs and A-levels work, and what is relevant. The same is true for maths; although I don't teach maths at my school, I regularly tutor in maths, and am very aware of what is in the GCSE and AS/A2 syllabus (teaching the Edexcel modules, for example). I have separate honours degrees in both physics and mechanical engineering, and can therefore tutor most first or second year undergrad subjects in these disciplines. In fact I never got any other jobs during college as I have been tutoring in a variety of subjects since I left school. I also have experience giving Spanish conversation classes. |
Tutoring Approach: Practice, Practice, Practice! I don't believe anything is impossible to understand; it is just a question of using the right examples to clarify, and taking enough time to practice thoroughly. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Dulmini: I am a 2:1 graduate with a good grounding in both the arts and sciences, as I studied English, German, Maths and Physics at A-level, before going to the Kent Institute of Art & Design (now known as the University College for the Creative Arts) to study Architecture. I also work as a Sinhalese interpreter, video camerawoman, photographer, and meditation group leader. I'm also an amateur singer-songwriter and play guitar. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored children preparing for their 11+ exam, and currently teach adults the basics of Buddhism and how to meditate. |
Tutoring Approach: I'm friendly and encouraging in my approach, and am good at helping students understand concepts by using examples, illustrations and provoking discussion. Several adults who I teach Buddhism and meditation to are foreign nationals with poor english; so I communicate clearly, using stories and anecdotes, with lots of eye contact, facial expressions and hand gestures to get my message across. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Zangmo Denise: I am a qualified Art Teacher and professional artist with specialist knowledge of Drawing, Painting, Digital Photography and Graphic Design. I offer tuition in all art media including pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, oils, acrylics, collage, mixed media, digital photography and Photoshop. Everyone is welcome from absolute beginner to advanced, including those seeking exam coaching. |
Teaching Experience: I am a qualified Art, Craft and Design teacher with 24 years experience teaching all ages, levels and abilities in Schools, Colleges and in the community. I have been teacher in charge of all the Art and Design Technology curriculum in a Primary School, have taught A Level Art to adults and have been appointed Reserve As Level Art Moderator by OCR exam board. I have also been a Visiting Lecturer in Painting and Creative Studies Lecturer for Eastbourne College of Arts and Technology. Recently I have been teaching art, meditation and digital photography in the community. |
Tutoring Approach: I aim to encourage students to experiment with different ways of expressing themselves creatively and to find their own, personal interests and individual style. Consequently, there is no 'house style', and I find students are constantly stretching me to think of better ways to teach, which keeps me on my toes! My own art work has encompassed both traditional and experimental approaches. Interests in psychology, the spiritual and art as therapy have led me to make more experimental, abstract paintings - landscapes of the mind. This experience of working in and having Art Therapy, has inspired both my own creative work and extended the way I approach teaching. I prefer to teach art classes in groups no larger than 10, in which a welcoming, friendly atmosphere can develop during the course and students get get more individualised art tuition. Structured art activities are balanced with encouragement to do your own thing, and art teaching methods include demonstrations, talks, discussions, step by step or experimental exercises, projects, homework, encouraging one-to-one guidance and outings, always with the option to do you own thing. I also offer one-to-one art, digital photography and photoshop tuition at times to suit you, daytimes, evenings and weekends. You can have a session as little or as often as you want, and learn at your own pace. |

| About Ken: Male 60 years of age. Positive outlook. Pro photographer and partner in a studio for 30 years. Patient and adaptable. Travelled extensively. An avid learner. I find the more I teach, the more I learn. |
Teaching Experience: PHOTOGRAPHY: Taught photography in my studio and on location. Darkroom work to portraits, weddings and exam requirements for still life and studio portraiture. ENGLISH: Taught English as a Foreign Language to people in China and England. Mostly to people over 20 years of age. |
Tutoring Approach: Holistic approach to learning as many factors come into play. Not just the willingness to learn a subject. People have pressures from various areas that have to be taken in to account. I find that some times the student assimilates much more during one lesson, than maybe the previous. I try to tailor the lessons to the student with an emphasis on creating a sense of acheivement. Humour and flexibility are important also. |
