About Joanne:
I am very enthusiastic and have always been passionate about learning new things. I now work as a teacher, and enjoy inspiring others and helping them to learn. I am 25 years old, and have gained a wide range of teaching experience as well as other work experience in a business environment. I consider myself to be kind, empathetic, and very systematic, always approaching tasks logically.

Teaching Experience:

Since the age of 18, I have gained summer experience working at various holiday camps, and running kids clubs in various hotels, including ones abroad working for Thomas cook. I have also gained experience of teaching children from abroad English. I have now settled to teaching in the primary age group, and have taught for the past 2 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in inspiring people to learn, and know that learning is very dependent on the learner. I encourage different learning methods and resources to make learning even more interesting. I am very strategic in my approach, and feel this is necessary especially when learning to pass exams etc. I feel that given any curriculum, or learning outcome booklet for an academic module, I could break down the learning that needs to take place to support the learner.

About Anja:
My name is Anja and I am an exchange student from Germany. I am friendly, hard working and patient. I study Sociology and Popular Culture and I am personally interested in reading, music and theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I have given Latin lessons for about three or four years and I have also done some lessons in Mathematics and French. I also have experience with teaching children, because I was an Au pair and did a practical training in a nursery school.

As my native language is German and I also chose my A Level in German, I am able to help with pronounciation, grammar and writing essays.

Besides, I have done some intercultural training so that I can make more sensitive for other cultures.

Tutoring Approach:

For children I can combine the lessons with playing games, singing songs, acting and drawing.

For adults I also stress conversation skills, grammar exercises, vocabulary quizzes, writing texts and cultural issues. I might also suggest some homework.

About Michelle:
I am a qualified Primary School teacher with fours years experience. I have recently become a Mummy and am therefore taking a career break from teaching. As I love my job I still want the opportunity to teach and have decided to take up tutoring on a part-time basis.
My hobbies include playing the piano, skiing, taking long walks and swimming although I don't have much time for that now I have a beautiful little boy!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for four years and have had experience within the whole primary range. I was Head of Science at my last school and responsible for raising standards in Science for SAT's. I taught Year 6 for 2 years so have extensive SAT's experience in Maths, English and Science. I was then promoted to Head of ICT and Assessment at my current school, where I benefited from teaching all ages from 3 - 11. I also undertook a French course giving me a certificate to teach French at primary level. I also introduced an effective Assessment for Learning programme into school which helped to raise standards of teaching and learning.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a fun and interactive approach to learning and my lessons always have variety and aim to appeal to different learning styles. I do not believe in my pupils sitting for an hour simply working through lots of worksheets. I believe in a questioning and evaluating approach where children are given the opportunity to investigate, as I firmly believe this helps fuel enthusiasm for a subject and allows children to enjoy learning.

About bob:
I'm currently studying for a PhD in the London Centre for Nanotechnology, based at University College London in the field of frustrated magnetism. I am therefore knowledgeable in all areas of physics including thermal, nuclear, statistical and quantum physics as well as electronics and optics as well as my own field. I have marked final year undergraduate problem sheets and thus have a good understanding what examiners expect from students.

NOTE: IF YOU REJECTED MY TUTORING OFFER IN ERROR I CAN NO LONGER CONTACT YOU. PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER OFFER OR I CAN'T GET BACK TO YOU.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as a laboratory demonstrator to first and second year undergraduates. I have also taught first year undergraduates, aiding them to solve problems for themselves by encouraging a broad understanding of underlying physical principles in classes at UCL. In addition to this I have demonstrated to undergraduate students in mathematics classes, helping them to understand the basic art of problem solving in mathematics by reducing questions into well known forms before solution.

NOTE: IF YOU REJECTED MY TUTORING OFFER IN ERROR I CAN NO LONGER CONTACT YOU. PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER OFFER OR I CAN'T GET BACK TO YOU.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that encouraging a student to understand the basic laws of physics and mathematics is crucial in allowing them to become confident in problem solving. It is essential that a student be able to think clearly and without inhibition if they are to develop a versatile problem-solving technique.

About Marc:
Currently studying towards a degree in Computing Science and Economics at Glasgow University. I have achieved excellent results at school and I'm now excelling at Uni, and I want to help others do likewise. I am extremely passionate about the subjects I teach, with lots of patience, and keen to help all reach the highest level of achievement that they can.

Teaching Experience:

My initial teaching experience stems from teaching sports in my spare time whilst at school - as a keen swimmer, I initially taught swimmers under the supervision of my club coach. I soon realised that teaching is something that comes very naturally to me, and over the past few years I have branched off into other sports, and now other subjects.

I have now been tutoring mainly in Computing and Maths for almost 2 years, and have been involved in teaching sports since I was 14. I may not have any solid tutoring qualifications but I am very knowledgeable in my chosen subjects and believe the experience I have gained is far more important.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a very relaxed and friendly attitude to teaching, making sure that my lessons are as fun and interesting as possible. This not only eases the tension and anxiety that kids no doubt experience when they go for lessons but it makes it so much easier to capture and absorb difficult concepts, and ultimately, it's why so many of my pupils keep coming back.

About Hannah:
I am a twenty four year old English Literature and Creative Writing Graduate from Liverpool Hope University. I am passionate about all academic studies but particularly English and I received from my University the 2008 Geoffrey Leyland Memorial Prize for Best Perfomance in Final Year English Literature. I am extremely keen to commence a career working with young people and am planning on studying for a PGCE in 2009. I am also very patient, friendly and easygoing while also being conscientious and hardworking.

Teaching Experience:

I currently tutor three young girls with maths and English, who I have been tutoring since September 2008. I also participated in the Paired Reading Scheme at Archbishop Blanch School when I was in sixth form, which involved me working closely with a young girl with special needs, helping her with her reading throughout the year. I have also completed a work experience placement at Knowsley Village Primary School. In addition to this, I have had lots of experience of working with young people because of my voluntary roles within my church (St Matthew and St James, Mossley Hill) as a Sunday School leader for a group of primary school aged children and as a regular group leader at the annual holiday club.

Tutoring Approach:

I am used to teaching in a variety of fun, creative and interesting ways and am extremely adaptable in my approach. I can easily adapt my teaching to the needs of each individual student and create a method that will most benefit them.

About John:
I am Management Consultant and work in London, I have been tutoring Maths and Physics in my spare time for 7 years and get great satisfaction from it. I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2002 with an honours degree in Physics, I then joined BAE Systems as a project manager. I now work for Accenture Monday to Friday and tutor at the weekends. I find that because I am not a teacher by day, I can interact at a different level with my students, specifically I can relate the concepts in Physics and Maths to real world business applications. This approach helps to engage students and motivates them to learn Maths and Physics, I believe that this desire to learn is essential for any student to get the top grade.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring part time after work and at weekends for over 7 years. I have had a number of students, ranging in abilities. In all case where I have tutored a GCSE student from their mock exams to the real exams their grades have increased by at least one, in an exceptional case it moved from a D to and A*.

Tutoring Approach:

I only tutor Maths & Physics, subjects that many people find difficult but yet are fundamentally important to real world, everyday life. My approach to tutoring is simple, and can be applied to everything one does in life, first is to motivate the student and once they are motivated apply the principle of "practice makes perfect". Unless the student wants to learn, they will not be willing to practice and unless they practice they will fail to achieve. To understand what motivates a student, I first determine what they want to achieve in life (if they don't know yet, then I help them define a near term goal). I find that because I operate in the business world Monday to Friday I can relate the importance of maths and physics to achieving career goals of just about any student. Once the student wants to learn, I diagnose the areas of the syllabus that they find the most difficult and then focus on these areas first. I set 1 to 2 hours of homework each week, all homework is past exam questions. The following week's lesson will normally be half to run through their homework providing guidance where they are going wrong and explanation of model answers, if the student has grasped the prior weeks subject then we move on to a another area of the syllabus.
