Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Giulia: I am a young professional willing to start a career in teaching. I don't have too much teaching experience (even though I am not completely new to the profession) but I believe I have the positive can-do attitude necessary to start building my career and help my students at best. I am currently living in North London, but will soon be moving to Chelmsford, Essex, so I''d be glad to start tutoring in this area starting from mid September. |
Teaching Experience: I have some previous experience as private tutor both with children (I taught English and Maths to children aged between 11-14) and adults (private Italian tutor). |
Tutoring Approach: I love learning languages and getting to know and understand different cultures and people. I actually devoted all my studies and efforts on it, thus I feel I can now start passing on my passion and enthusiasm to others. I love working with people (both adults and children) and particularly enjoy meeting people who share my interest for other languages and cultures. Furthermore, I feel that, being a language student myself, I can easily detect and try to solve the most common problems and difficulties encountered when studying a foreign language. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Karen: I hold a BA Joint Hons in Spanish and Italian and an MA in Hispanic Studies, and am a fully-qualified Teacher. I have lived and taught for one year in both Spain and Italy quite recently, therefore my language is fluent and up-to-date. I have a love for languages which I like to bring to my lessons, and feel that having had both experience in the classroom, and as a private tutor, I can adapt my lessons to suit the particular context and the learner. As a non-native speaker I can easily identify the problems learners face, and outline and resolve grammatical errors in a clear fashion. Having taught secondary languages in the classroom very recently I am conscious of the current requisites of all the exam areas, and have a bank of resources tailored to suit. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English in both Spain and Italy for one year, and have 2 years recent experience teaching Spanish and Italian at Secondary level. I have taught both Secondary students and adult learners, and can tailor my lessons to those who are studying to meet GSCE or A-level course requirements, or those who are studying for language usage on holidays. I have taught learners of mixed levels in terms of both motivation and ability, and I always modify my teaching style to suit the learner. I have had very succesful results at both GSCE and A-level from the students I have taught. |
Tutoring Approach: I always encourage to learner to meet their full potential. As a lover of languages I feel that I actively convey my enthusiasm to the learner, which in turn makes the tutor-learner relationship more positive, and in general, makes the learner more motivated and engaged with the language. |

Types of Tutoring: From their home / Online
| About Tiziana: I am a sociology graduate from university of Trento. I am Italian native speaker and a fluent speaker of English and French. I am interested in teaching Italian language to the speakers of English language. |
Teaching Experience: Although I have no formal education in teaching, I have a basic understanding of teaching languages as I have done several "language exchanges" while my stay in England. In addition, I have also conducted Italian conversation classes. Regarding my competence in Italian language, it is sufficient to mention that I have done all my formal education (sociology graduate and Master in Tourism Management) in Italian. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the best way to learn a language is by conversing in the language with a native speaker, as it is difficult to get a grip on the language just by learning the grammar of the language. My approach to teaching Italian consists of holding a conversation over any current topic, talking about daily life situations and by the means of student presentations. I also find watching and analysing (by explaining linguistic and cultural points) Italian movies, an effective means of teaching Italian language. |

I believe that the skills I developed through teaching undergraduates can be easily adapted and applied to the teaching of students at other levels of education. I have A levels in French and Italian, and also speak Russian and so am well qualified to teach languages. Having been at Cambridge for over six years, I know the University well, and would be able to coach students applying to Cambridge in interview technique; I know what they are after and the best ways of succeeding. |
Teaching Experience: I taught undergraduates at Cambridge University in history, both in lectures and one to one teaching. I covered all aspects of European and British history, but would be able to teach in other areas too. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that learning is an interactive process; 'death by powerpoint' is certainly not my style! I try to make what I am teaching relevant to the interests of the student, engaging the student by using anecdotes and stories, but ensuring that all the information is accurately and comprehensively conveyed. I think it is important for a tutoring session to be as much an opportunity for the student to discuss the subject material as it is for the tutor. At Cambridge I became accustomed to one on one teaching when I, the student then, was fully engaged in the teaching session, and learnt to formulate and defend my arguments, both verbally and in writing. Similarly as a teacher, I tried to ensure that I use this method when teaching students. The approach allows for not only full understanding of the subject material, but also an ability to write, to formulate arguments, and for the student to gain confidence in expressing their opinions based on the subject material. I use tests and mock exams, and mock interviews if appropriate, to ensure that the student has learnt the material. Although setting too many tests is not always a useful approach, it is important that students learn exam technique and strategy to ensure that they succeed to the best of their abilities; learning the material is only part of the process, reformulating it in a way that will impress examiners in another important part and one that can also be learnt. I have access to past Cambridge exam papers and would use these for university students, and at times A level students, where appropriate. I would also use mock exam papers laid out in the curriculum in other cases. |

| About Laura: Hello. My name is Laura Tracanna. I am 25 years old. I was born in Italy and moved with my family to the UK at the age of 4. I am trilingual. I speak Italian and English to the same level and I am also fluent in French as I did a BA in Modern Foreign Languages at Westminster University. I qualified from the University of Westminster in 2005 and then did a little travelling and then returned to university in London to continue my studies. I studied for my pgce primary school qualification with French specialism. I am now a qualified primary school teacher and although I trained primarily to teach Key Stage 2, I have been teaching a class of 30 reception children and have loved it. I really enjoy working within the foundation stage. What I do miss however, is using my languages in my everyday work hence my interest in tutoring. I also had to acquire a different language at a young age and although I was very young and acquisition was fairly subconscious, I understand the difficulties encountered in learning and I am very good at encouraging different approaches which help overcome these difficulties. I am young and have been told that as a teacher, I am extremely kind and patient. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as a nanny and tutor for various families in London while I was a student. I tutored the children of foreign families. I taught French and Italian as well as helping them with their homework. I completed a PGCE primary qualification at Greenwich University and have just completed my first year of teaching which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I taught a Reception class of 30 children. I was responsible for the planning and delivery of all curriculum subjects. I was also responsible for planning for children with special needs and developing my own assessment strategies. I led my class towards achieving all the Early Learning Goals. |
Tutoring Approach: I truly believe in making learning fun where possible but I understand that some things just need to be learnt and however they are approached, can prove quite tricky for some students. I believe in positive reinforcement and getting to know the student as much as possible. I believe that recognising the areas of difficulty and of interest of each student is essential when delivering lessons. In terms of tutoring, I try to focus initially on areas of interest or required areas of study of my student. I like to get feedback on my own lessons and ask if how a student's learning could be maximised in any way. I try to vary my lessons so they are not monotonous and always delivered from a textbook or a notebook. I make my own resources at times and try to base lessons in deifferent locations. I believe in being honest. the tutee needs to feel comfortable to tell me what works for them and vice versa. |

| About Lorna: I am an enthusiastic and confident teacher. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with others, and inspiring them to want to learn. I am able to support students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to work on these in order to reach their full potential. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked for four years as a class teacher (including one year training through the Graduate Teacher Programme), with most of my experience being in Key Stage 2. I have taught all subjects at primary level, although my subject specialisms are Music and Modern Foreign Languages. I have also worked as a postgraduate teacher for undergraduate students, delivering courses on Italian literature, film and social studies. |
Tutoring Approach: With primary school children, I aim to make learning fun and to help children realise how much they can achieve. I provide tailored lessons to suit individual children's needs and can support children to prepare for KS2 SATs examinations. With older students, I encourage students to identify areas in which they need support and work to develop skills according to individual needs. When teaching languages, I include aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening in all lessons and can provide an extra focus on any of these areas as necessary. |

| About Josephine: I am a qualified teacher working in upper Key Stage Two. I am qualified to teach all national curriculum subjects. I have a calm and positive manner which ensures children feel comfortable and confident to try their best. In my experience this approach allows children to achieve the best of their potential. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience of working with children aged from 4 to 15 years old. I have taught widely in schools in this country, taught English as a foreign language within mainland Europe and have tutored children of various ages. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a varied approach to teaching; the style and manner of delivery is ascertained by the child and I consistently retain flexibility in planning of sessions in order that progress is adapted to suit the individual needs of the child. I also combine interactive and fun sessions with more traditional written and independent work. I would ideally provide work to be completed outside of scheduled sessions to encourage understanding to become more deeply embedded. |

| About Laura: I love teaching, because it gives me the opportunity to help people learn new things not only about the language they are studying, but also about the culture of the country or countries where they speak the language. I love preparing fun activities, exercises which can challenge the knowledge of the students. Participative and communicative work in class is my main goal. |
Teaching Experience: During the last three years I have had the opportunity to teach in language schools, private schools and also tutoring a wide variety of ages: from 3 year old children to adults. I have taught people from different cultural backgrounds, both in groups and private tuition. |
Tutoring Approach: My main aim is trying to give a personal approach to tutoring, finding out what each student needs. Every students is different and has different needs. Some will need more grammar, some will need more conversation, with different approaches, always trying to use what we learn in a context. |
