About Danielle:
I am currently studying part-time for my law degree, i have also completed my ILEX Level 3 law diploma, which includes, property, business, family, tort and criminal law. I am hard working and organised, i also work exceptionally well with children of a variety of ages. I understand that every child requires a different teaching approach and i am capable to adapt to any child's needs.

Teaching Experience:

I hold no official tutoring experience however I have taught various family members aspects of English Literature, maths and law. This has given me an advantage, as I've worked with children of all ages and abilities, and has meant i have also learnt from them as to how best to get information across to them and also for them to be able to use the knowledge in the future.

Also I've held managerial positions in previous job roles so i have always held a supervisory role to other members of my teams, which has meant I've had to be inventive and used constructive criticism when necessary so in the work place people can achieve their possible best.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring would vary for each student. However i would ensure that there was a structured lay out for each topic, also ensuring at the end of each lesson exactly what the student understood and anything that would require further work I would consider a different approach of teaching.

About Jane:
I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Masters level degree in human nutrition and dietetics. Before completing my degree I studied for A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Home Economics (Food Science). I therefore feel I would be competent to tutor students in the above subjects.
In September I started a PhD in human nutrition and hope one day to become a university lecturer.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in many areas of teaching/tutoring. I have successfully tutored many students through their GCSEs and A-levels, helping them to achieve the grades they needed to go to university, or pursue their intended career. I have a vast resource of teaching aids and past exam papers, which can be used to help the student gain their highest possible marks..

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to break down large chunks of information into smaller, understandable parts. Through the tutoring experience I have gained I understand that the same approach to teaching will not apply to every student and I am able to adapt my teaching style to each student. Through my own university experience I have found that sticking closely to the syllabus often yields excellent results in examinations.

As I have recently finished my degree I feel I am ideally placed to understand the modern educational process and empathise with any prospective students. I am happy to tutor from my home or travel to you.

Due to my job as a dietitian I have a full CRB check of which I would be more than happy to provide a copy of.

About Pratigya:
I am a currently doing my PhD in Immunology at Cardiff University school of Medicine. I graduate with BSc hons degree in Biomedical science at the University of Durham. I graduated with A grades in Biology and Chemistry A levels and a B in Physics A level, and also student Matsh upt o AS level. In my GCSE's I achieved 7 A grades, and 3 B's.
Bubbly by nature, I believe that education isn't just about getting a certificate but about learning. I am self motivated, reliable and hard working.
Currently I am working on a research project looking into the molecular mechanism played by a polymorphism in the gene PTPN22 in predisposing to autoimmune diseases such as Diabetes type 1, Rheumatoid rthritis and SLE.

Teaching Experience:

Currently I am supervising a 4th yr Medical student in his laboratory project for the past 2 months.
I also attended a training course as a teaching associate in secondary science. I have given private tuitions to secondary school students for the 3 years of my undergraduate degree as STARS mentor. I have also volunteered as a associate teacher at a primary school for a year.I have succesfully tutored my younger brother through his GCSE's, A levels and 1st year university. I have also volunteered as science and english teacher for 2 months at a time, few time in secondary schools in Nepal.

Tutoring Approach:

Studying should not be a burden but it is an active learning process therefore there needs to be a balance between the two. There is an approach to everything, hence knowing sylabus inside out doesn't necessarily mean good marks in exams. Exam technique is very important, and hence understanding and confidence is essential.I like the students to be able to understand what they learn, to see the logic of what they have to learn, and hence be able to apply their learning.

About Laura:
I am a friendly, approachable person and I enjoy socialising with my friends and family. I like to read for pleasure and also enjoy exercising regularly. I am patient and understanding and I apply this in my day to day life at work. In relation to my own study I always strive to put optimum effort into this as I believe this will make me stronger in my teaching and knowledge.

I live at home with my parents, two younger sisters and very adorable little dog.

Teaching Experience:

I am about to begin my final honours year of my degree in Primary Teaching. I have taught primaries 1/2, 2, 6 and 7, but have covered in other stages and am able to teach any primary age. I have received excellent grades for my teaching and some very pleasing comments from mentoring teachers. I use my understanding of the very differing abilities of each individual child to assess their learning style preference and from this I employ the relevant teaching strategy for the best result. Similar to my approach to study, I never give up on a child's understanding of a concept, and will continue to try different methods to help them in their understanding of a subject or topic.

Tutoring Approach:

I am new to tutoring itself but I don't imagine it would be that unlike one to one in the classroom, which I have done often when a child in my class has required some extra support. In this case I will set the rest of the class on task and give this child the relevant support, employing the teaching methods I mentioned. I embrace new challenges and look forward to this new style of teaching.

About Susan:
23 year old female, living in Manchester city centre. I am originally from Liverpool and came to Manchester to study English Literature and Language at University, gaining a 2.1. honours degree. I decided to stay in Manchester as I find it an amazing city and have some great friends here. I currently work as an insurance underwriter and have been for the past two years. I thoroughly enjoy my job and I am very dedicated and ambitious, currently studying and participating in exams with the aim of achieving a diploma in insurance.

In my spare time I enjoy going the gym, playing badminton, painting artwork, going the pub (etc) and I'm also a keen cook.

I am able to work in the pupil's home and I am also willing to travel to pupils houses as long as is near to City Centre (and accessible by tram, bus, train etc as do not drive)

I have always had a desire to teach, but was never interested in doing it full time, therefore becoming a personal tutor would be a perfect opportunity for me to do something worthwhile which i will enjoy.

Teaching Experience:

I have not had any previous teaching experience

Tutoring Approach:

I am young, approachable and believe the best learning will be in an environment where enjoyment is factored in. I will ensure this is the case.
I am extremely patient, friendly and a clear communicator and I value these attributes as being significant benefits required when offering personal tutoring.
I may not have the experience of other tutors but I feel i certainly have the enthusiasm and helpful, dedicated attitude that will ensure i am alert to the pupil's needs.

About Kate:
Hi,
I'm Kate and I'm a Masters of Geoscience student at Keele university. I love my subjects, and study a wide range of Earth sciences. With this background, i look a lot at the links between disciplines, how everything works together, the big picture. This perspective can bring subjects that at first seem flat and uninteresting to life, by relating them to their wider contexts. I have travelled studying through Iceland and Italy, as well as around the UK.

Teaching Experience:

I occasionally sit with first year university students and help them work through their modules, as well as leading study groups. I also spend a lot of time with adult friends from other disciplines, helping to explain topics such as climate change, or volcanism.
I also run educational workshops in local high schools, teaching market economics, entrepreneurship and business skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My education has led me always to look at the relationships between areas of study, for instance, the ocean has currents and the atmosphere has currents, but how do these affect one another? or how does volcanism affect climate change? Being able to relate an area of study to the world around it is a real passion of mine, and i believe that it reinforces a topic from many angles, and can really bring it to life.

About Dee:
I am currently studying Neuroscience at UCL. I have a very enthusiastic approach to learning and believe the combination of determination and attitude are the recipe for success. I am patient and understanding, but am aware that, at times, discipline needs to be enforced (with the younger students). I'm here to improve exam results and develop the general knowledge and attitude to the subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a variety of ages - from year 1 to year 11. I am a part time teaching assistant for a year 1 class, teaching hand writing and encouraging concentration and curiousity. I am also currently tutoring a year 3 girl who wants to move to a more academic school. Along with focusing on the specifics of the exam, we often study some French (her favourite subject). Last year, I also helped a year 11 student study for her Maths GCSE. As I am still a student, the syllabus is still fresh in my mind and I have a better understanding of the stresses and confusions of the syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

I comprehend the need for excellence under exam conditions and I encourage students to learn exam techniques from a young age. However, I strongly believe that the attitude and enthusiasm for a subject is the key to success. It is important not to focus solely on exams and to develop knowledge for personal development and improvement.

About Julian:
I am passionate about Geography! I believe it is THE subject that defines our era.
This philosophy informs my approach to teaching vibrant, exciting student-friendly lessons in school and similar sessions in the tutoring experience.
My pre-teaching background in both the media industry and working for a international non-governmental organisation have provided me with a wealth of case studies and experiences that bring to life my teaching and tutoring.
I completed my degree only two years ago, so my knowledge base, specialising in the human and environmental geographies, is vast and up-to-date.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Watford's best state school for two years. Prior to this I was the director of education at an established UK children's charity.
During my brief career to date I have been quick to establish myself as a dynamic, confident and compelling teacher. Improving all the time, my successful engagement with students is evidenced by over 70% take up of GCSE by my two year 9 groups.
I develop student-friendly resources that have been adopted across the department by other colleagues. I lead the department on many ICT-related developments.
In this short time I have experienced a range of school activities - from organising field trips to form tutorship.
Some quotes from my ongoing assessment:
"JC was able to bring in a wide range of specific examples to complement both his and student's points"
"You questioned and answered with confidence"
"I watched you teaching this aspect of phys geog six months ago and there is no comparison between your confidence with the material then and now - very good"
"Many of the facts came from pupils but Julian added much more and appeared very confident with the knowledge of the topic."

Tutoring Approach:

For some students, gaining confidence with many of the concepts and ideas presented in geography at Key Stage 4 or 5 is difficult - especially considering the pressures of coursework, ongoing assessment and the natural workload provided by other subjects. Yet these concepts underpin much of the reality that geography deals with.
My approach to tutoring is to enthuse the often overwhelmed student first and foremost with 'real', accessible geography. By using interactive ICT-based resources and practical assessment tools such as course guides, question mark schemes and exemplar work, the student can access previously hard-to-grasp material, and gain a critical understanding of the assessment process.
My belief is that you would not attempt to fix a car without instructions. I help the student interpret the manual to their course so they themselves can get behind the wheel and drive to success!

About Paul:
Apart from being an active teacher, I've also had jobs and interests in many other aspects of life, giving me a wide variety of experiences which I find helpful when teaching young people. I've also helped bring up two children of my own and have two lovely granddaughters, which help to give me another perspective of the learning experience and the attitudes of young people today.

Teaching Experience:

I have a B.A. [Hons] in Primary Education and have taught both full time in schools and for the past seven years I've been supply teaching. During this time I have taught in over 100 different schools over quite a wide area and encountered children of all abilities, attitudes and ethnic backgrounds. I have taught all age ranges from Nursery to 11+ and older children in a Special School, although the majority of my teaching has been in Key Stage 2.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that tutoring, especially one-to-one, should be tailored to gently push children further than they would be able to get in the normal classroom situation, especially by matching the teaching and learning style to the individual child. By starting gradually and steadily progressing children often out-perform anything they thought possible. I find that children learn best in a quiet, settled environment, which is why I offer the facility at my house, or try to achieve in the child's own home.

About Junejo:
I am currently doing my Phd in Mechnical Engineering at Loughborough University. My research area is related to computer assisted orthopaedic surgery.

Teaching Experience:

During my Bachelor and Masters I used to teach A-Level students in subjects such as Maths, Geography, Economics.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to try to allow the students to do as much of the work as they possibly can by themselves and I coach them along and do my best to smooth over the rough spots. As in my view ideal tutors must be activators rather than facilitators. Activators cause active student learning by motivating and leading students with appropriate, open-ended questions. I do not have a "method" or "strategy" for tutoring because each student is an individual.
