About Daniel:
I am a trainee primary school teacher in university specialising in music. Myself being a trainee reflects on my cost per hour compared to other tutors. I would be happiest teaching music skills, however I would happy to do literacy, maths, science, music or I.T. at primary school level.

Musically I have a BTEC national diploma in music technology before starting my degree, I can play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I can currently accommodate guitar, bass and keyboards at basic levels and guitars at a slightly more advanced level. I would be happy to help out with GCSE music and have the music technology available to help pupils with their composition side of GCSE coursework allowing to record their compositions on their instruments, sing on their composition and have other instruments involved just by having keyboard and computer skills.

On a personal experience level I have been in bands since my days in school which has involved me releasing two digital singles with different labels, playing a major European music festival and touring other places around England and Wales.

Teaching Experience:

I am going in to the second year of my degree. I have undertaken placements in primary school which has involved me teaching units of maths, literacy and lessons of music. This year I will be taking another placement in a primary school along with doing some music based tutoring in groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I will teach children what they want to learn. Whether it is what they are currently doing at school or whether they are learning an instrument as a hobby. I will offer the children free recording of some of their lessons so they have something to show for their time spent learning and they can hear their progress and show off at home!

About Alexander:
Hi, I have recently finished all the academic qualifications that entitle me to become a barrister, however I have not yet obtained a pupillage, which is the final apprentice like stage required before I am allowed to practice. As such I have at least a year of freedom and I would like to do a bit of teaching.

Prior to studying the law I did my A levels in double maths, physics and chemistry and completed an undergraduate degree in Physics at Imperial College London. So I am more than capable of teaching those subjects to a high level.

Teaching Experience:

While I don't have much specific teaching experience, having only casually tutored a few times while I was at university, I have plenty of experience explaining complicated subjects, both scientific and legal, to lay people. Not only that but I have also had extensive advocacy training. Not only that but both my parents are teachers and so i have been around the profession all my life and I am therefore confident that I will be a very capable teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

There are two main approaches I would use for tutoring and it would depend on the client as to which one would be more appropriate. The first would be for the tutee to ask me about any specific areas that they are having problems with and for me to help them through it by through explanation and then practice in problem solving.

The second would be a more general approach where I would dictate the content of the lessons, based on the syllabus, in an attempt to give a more general overview and therefore a better understanding of the subject.

Additionally I would at all times, be approachable and try to keep the material as relevant, enjoyable and engaging as possible.

I achieved 7 A's in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Accounting and 4 A's in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and General Paper in O levels and A levels respectively. I will ensure to provide your child with a great learning experience as I myself have been through the same exams and questions not too long ago.

About Duncan:
Currently studying for a doctorate in fields of chemistry and applied business at Cranfield University. I graduated in 2005 from Birmingham University with an honors degree (Msci) in Chemistry (2i). I have also completed the core modules of the Cranfield MBA and would feel comfortable teaching business statistic, finance, economics and accounting to more mature students( e.g. MBA students). I have a wealth of academic experience I am willing to share and I fully enjoy the rewards of tutoring.

I have held several positions of responsibility including some experience of management. Whilst studying full time at university I held down two part time jobs.

I am also a keen sportsman and currently I am captain the university football team as well as playing rugby as well as other sports. I consider myself to be extremely outgoing, dedicated, motivated and sociable as well as hardworking and organised. In my spare time I enjoy listen to and playing music as well as keeping fit and visiting the gym.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for a while now and have picked up the key skills necessary to promote success in my candidates. I also have experience in holding tutorials and practical classes/workshops for undergraduates whilst at University. I have been involved in numerous training exercises to do with my work outside of university and also some sports coaching as well. I have been told that I have a good ability in explaining difficult concepts to people. I am always keen to learn and adapt new skills/knowledge for myself.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found through my experience that the best methods of learning is through setting realistic and dynamic targets, working through examples and having an approachable teacher. I would set about teaching by explaining the concepts of a particular theory or problem and then mentor a student through a set of example questions either from past exam papers of from a syllabus. I would then expect the student to approach the problem by themselves with a realistic amount of homework and then discuss any errors or difficulties faced.

About Jodi:
I am a young Biomolecular Research Scientist working for a Biotechnology company.

So how did I get here? Well, I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry at A-level in order to qualify for the Biochemistry and Genetics Honours Degree at Nottingham University.

Still enthused and determined I started a PhD, researching DNA repair proteins. This has led me to a job in the industrial sector as a research scientist.

However, I think at this point I must emphasis my interest in science as a whole and not just the small area that my work focuses on.

More importantly though, as a person I am friendly and approachable and always willing to help. I, myself, had some tutoring at school when I needed a nudge in the right direction. Consequently, I would enjoy passing on my knowledge and experiences of my subject, exam techniques and academic life to those who require it as those tutors did for me.

Teaching Experience:

During my PhD at the University of St Andrews I was heavily involved in demonstrating for the undergraduates (first year to final year students) in their laboratory practicals. This involved taking charge of a small group of students; helping them with any technical difficulties; or explaining and clarifying anything they did not understand. I was also responsible for ensuring that any set work was handed in and marked on time.

In addition to demonstrating, I tutored a first year undergraduate group. This involved fortnightly meetings and project updates. I had to supervise their Biology project, instigate group discussions and ensure they had everything in place for their final presentation.

I have also designed and implemented a work experience course targeted at school children (or anyone without the relevant background) visiting a research laboratory. I wrote and provided relevant handouts, I was always available to supervise the any practical work and always approachable for any questions.

My teaching experience extends to the classroom; I spent three weeks at a comprehensive school as a teaching assistant. I involved myself in the science lessons of all year groups helping the students where I could.

Tutoring Approach:

I take my role as a tutor very seriously since I know how important that extra help is for gaining a clear understanding of the subject, but also for building up self esteem and developing the confidence to apply what has been learnt. I feel that it is important to be able to adapt to the student and be able to explain things in numerous ways to ensure the point is understood.

Being able to explain something to others is a sign of understanding and understanding is the key to remembering. This is the main thing I have learnt during my education, I have been able to apply it throughout and it would be a lesson that I would pass on to others.

I am willing to spend time helping students in the hope that they may share in my enthusiasm for the subject.

About Kamalia:
I'm a Year 10 student at Stanborough School currently doing my GCSEs.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught people close to my age, both older and younger. I don't have any professional experience, but consider myself a good teacher. One reason for this is that I have had good feedback from the people I have previously tutored. Also since I myself am still a student, I would know how best to approach the younger generation. I am doing this to earn money in order for myself to get tutoring, so I can excel, as in class, especially mathematics, my teacher(s) don't seem to teach me enough, for which I don't blame them.

Tutoring Approach:

Leading from what I was saying earlier, in the section which included my teaching experience, I have had very little, apart from tutoring people similar to my age group or younger, professional teaching experience. Although, I believe that I can teach people close to my age or younger as I myself understand best on how they will learn.

About Chris:
I am a 27 year old enthusiastic Physics teacher who has good success in the classroom through being able to break science down into simple terms and apply it to everyday situations. Pupils get on with me and respect me because I keep things simple and put it in their language and apply it to their interests.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 4 years at a very successful fully comprehensive school in haslingden which has just been awarded outstanding status in all areas by Ofsted. I have taught all the sciences but specialise in Physics and teach this at all levels up to A-level standard . Through marking GCSE papers I have modified my teaching to correct the common mistakes and misunderstandings made by pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

Using simple language and applying the science to common experiences I teach the problem subject areas. Then this is reinforced with practicing exam questions and the approach to exams. Work between sessions can be set to accelerate progress if required.

About Dalvinder:
I am 39 years old and at present working in a secondary school. I live near Skipton and I enjoy walking and rock-climbing. I have been an examiner for SATs KS2 and KS3 in Science, English and Maths. I have been doing private tutoring for ten years, most have been for school entrance exams, GCSEs and A levels.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching specialism is in Chemistry but I have 15 years experience of teaching many different subjects. At the moment I teach Science and English to secondary deaf children. I have worked in primary schools teaching Science, English and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the reason for the tutoring I work with the student for an hour and then set them some tasks to do for the next visit, they can ring me if they get stuck. I will go through past papers with them and have a look through ideal answers with them. I play maths games with the younger ones and explore different ways of remembering spelling rules. Sometimes students are struggling with homework so I cover this too.

About Supriya:
Having graduated with a first class honours as a topper in the university and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Westminster. I am well aware of the difficulties students face and how best to overcome them as I successfully managed to do it myself. At this stage I enjoy teaching and sharing what I've learnt and understood over the years during my academic life.

Teaching Experience:

I had the opportunity of teaching primary, GCSE and A - level students privately and Bachelors and Masters students in the university. All of my students went on to get significantly higher grades and managed to gain entry into competitive courses and qualified with a first class.

Tutoring Approach:

With my 5yrs of teaching and tutoring experience, I believe that one-to-one tutoring is the best way to help students to get that extra edge and understand the subject in depth in a better way. I prefer teaching by providing relevant examples and simplifying their process of learning to the best of my abilities.
