Personal Description:
Better GCSE maths grades open doors to sixth form, apprenticeships and university. I target weak spots that stand in the way of exam success, using analytical skills from my MSc in Computer Science and years as a software engineer.

Teaching Experience:

I work one-to-one to build understanding that lasts, using past papers and modern approaches so students can rely on their knowledge under exam conditions. I've supported several students through GCSE maths, and parents describe me as professional, patient and adaptable.

I draw on Craig Barton's research-based principles (including cognitive load theory) to reduce overload and make learning stick. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate (renewed Sep 2025, verifiable on request).

Tutoring Approach:

Online lessons are structured but flexible, designed to fill gaps and build confidence step by step. A typical session includes a short recap, introduction of a new concept, worked examples, guided practice and independent work. Most exercises come from past exam papers, so students become comfortable with the style they'll face. The aim is to reduce stress and strengthen exam technique to make progress feel achievable.

Personal Description:
I have wide and successful teaching experience, high expectations of myself and of all my students and a deep love of language, stories and teaching. I have kept up to date with educational research and can therefore offer the best evidence-informed practice to make a real difference to the children I teach. I believe passionately in the power of reading for pleasure as a lever for improving academic success and have converted hundreds of children into confident, independent readers.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for over 20 years, in state and independent schools and in every year group from Year 1 to Year 13. I have also tutored children 1:1 and in small groups to prepare them for 11+ exams, senior school scholarship exams and to help them keep up if they are falling behind. I have even assisted university students with their dissertations. I am therefore as confident with students of A level Greek as I am helping young children who are struggling with phonics. My students have a track record of success in exams but also learn to love learning.

Tutoring Approach:

Experience has taught me how to adapt teaching to a student's individual needs, experiences and interests. Tutoring is powerful because it is tailored, so I offer personalised lessons which will support, engage, encourage and challenge my students. For English, I generally write my own tuition resources which are adapted specifically to suit the needs of an individual child. For 11+ preparation, I use some published resources to assess where children's strengths and weaknesses lie but then provide my own materials for teaching. For Latin or Greek, I would use courses to structure language learning but, again, supplement this with my own materials.

Personal Description:
GCSE & A-Level Tutor | Exam Technique Specialist | Former Examiner:
My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe learning should feel like a discovery, not a duty. I'm a naturally friendly and approachable tutor who lives for those 'lightbulb' moments that incredible spark in a student's eyes when a complex concept finally clicks, or the proud smile when a hard-earned test score comes in. My greatest goal is to transform your child's apprehension about a subject into genuine excitement and curiosity.

I bring a strong academic foundation to our sessions, holding a degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham and currently furthering my expertise through a Master's programme. My own academic journey has equipped me with deep knowledge across core subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, and Law, in which I achieved top grades (A/A*) at both GCSE and A-Level.

But beyond the formulas and facts, I am a builder of confidence. I can't wait to help your child conquer their challenges and achieve their academic goals in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Teaching Experience:

With over 300+ hours of one-on-one and small group tutoring experience, I have a proven track record of helping students unlock their potential. My experience is not just about teaching subjects; it's about mentoring young learners through their academic journeys.

Here's what that experience looks like in practice:

Exam Preparation Specialist: I have extensive experience guiding students through the specific requirements of GCSE and A-Level syllabi for my subject areas. This includes focused revision strategies, past paper practice, and techniques for managing exam anxiety, leading to tangible results such as helping a student improve their predicted grade in A-Level Maths from a D to a final B.

Building Foundational Confidence: I have worked with numerous students who initially described themselves as "just not a maths person" or "terrible at science." Through patience and tailored techniques, I've helped them not only improve their grades but fundamentally change their relationship with the subject, turning dread into capability.

Bridging Knowledge Gaps: I am skilled at diagnosing and rectifying misunderstood concepts from earlier years that are holding a student back. For example, I worked with a GCSE Chemistry student who was struggling with stoichiometry because they had a weak grasp of foundational mole calculations from earlier studies. By dedicating a session to rebuilding that core understanding, we enabled rapid progress in the more advanced topic.

Engaging the Unmotivated Learner: I pride myself on finding the "hook" that engages even the most reluctant students. Whether it's connecting historical events to modern-day politics, showing the real-world application of a physics law, or turning a biology revision session into a interactive game, I make it my mission to find what sparks their interest.

My students don't just leave our sessions with better grades; they leave with renewed confidence, effective study habits, and the self-assurance that they can tackle any academic challenge that comes their way.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that a one-size-fits-all approach is a recipe for boredom and frustration. That's why my sessions are built from the ground up around your child's unique learning style, goals, and even their sense of humour.

My methodology is built on three pillars:

1. Diagnostic First Steps: I begin by identifying not just knowledge gaps, but also the root of any confidence issues. We'll tackle the 'why' behind the struggle before we dive into the 'what'.

2. Dynamic & Personalised Lessons: Your child's sessions are uniquely theirs. We might use quick-fire quizzes to build speed and accuracy, illustrative drawings to demystify a scientific process, or even create silly memory rhymes to make key facts unforgettable. I am agile in my methods, using whatever tool works to make the material stick.

3. Consistent Reinforcement & Feedback: I refresh my lesson plans weekly to ensure they are engaging, effective, and something your child genuinely looks forward to. I provide regular, constructive progress updates to both students and parents, because everyone should be on the same team celebrating every victory, big and small.

Personal Description:
I am a structural engineer in the city of Birmingham. Graduated with a first class honours in civil engineering, which is heavily focused on mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have around 9-10 years of tutoring experience, having worked for two large and professional tutoring companies in the past. I have experience in dealing with different parts of the syllabus from various examination boards, and have experience in teaching pupils from the age of 5 to the age of 18.

Tutoring Approach:

Starting from the students themselves, I seek to know what the student requires from the sessions and what goal they wish to achieve. Following this, we understand the syllabus and proceed to carry out the sessions effectively.

I take a very understanding approach to any session, and my number one quality is patience. This has allowed me to succeed with almost every student.

Personal Description:
A qualified, enthusiastic, hard-working, focused teacher who is committed to his students' well-being and
education. Able to teach composition, singing, guitar (classical, electric, acoustic), piano, musical theory and aural training (in English or Spanish). Rodrigo is passionate about education and enjoys working in a busy, challenging
environment. He is able to establish a supportive relationship with his students. He is a team player and is always engaged in continuous learning in order to broaden his knowledge and experience. He is used to working with children as well as with adults. He has excellent communication and organizational skills, and computer software knowledge. He is eager to take up a job which would contribute to his growth as a professional and challenge him.

Teaching Experience:

College / University teaching professional (2015-2018)

His last job was as a Teacher of Aural Training (Intermediate and Advanced level) at the National University of Arts (Buenos Aires, Argentina) where he was responsible for:

- Monitoring and assessing students' progress.
- Creating lessons plans and developing educational programs.
- Collaborating with other teachers.
- Participating in and contributing to staff meetings.
- Involved in curriculum review and development.
- Ensuring the correct use and care of equipment and resources is maintained.
- Creating an appropriate environment for students to be able to learn.
- Preparing appropriate and suitable teaching materials.
- Preparing and correcting exams.

He also worked at a Private Study of Musical Arts (2015-2018) as a teacher of guitar, singing, piano, and musical theory

Tutoring Approach:

"¿What do you want to learn?" Whether it is a guitar, singing, piano or theory class, I argue that the most important thing is to take into account from the beginning what the student's goals are, so as to be able to personalize the class with a professional or recreational approach, taking into account the musical styles to work.

The first class works as a kind of interview in which the teacher can identify the level from which they begin to work and also the student can begin to relate and feel comfortable.

With that information, it is possible to develop a study program that adapts to the convenience with technical and theoretical tools to achieve the objectives set by the teacher and the student.

It is always important to develop classes that try to maintain enthusiasm and support students the way they need.

Teaching attributes:

- Responding appropriately to the student's needs and requirements.
- Able to interact and form relationships with students.
- Able to develop educational programs, creating personalized lessons and exams.
- Patience and tact.
- Supportive with students with emotional or behavioral problems and help develop their social skills.
- Providing regular feedback regarding student's progress.

Personal Description:
I finished my postgraduate study at the University of Birmingham in Dec 2018. I had stayed in UK for more than a year. I really love UK. The time when I was living in UK left me a great and impressive memory.

Now I have returned to China, I would like to keep contact with British people, and continue tutoring online. There are 7 or 8 hours time difference between UK and China. Therefore, someone who are interested in learning Chinese/Mandarin, or want to know the culture of China, or want to improve your Maths, please leave me a message. I will do my best to be a good tutor and also a good international friend of you.

In particular, for those who are interested in tutoring English, we can tutor each other for free.

Teaching Experience:

I was a volunteer teacher when I was an undergraduate student in China. It was in a countryside school of Hunan province. I went there with my schoolmates in a summer holiday. I taught students mathematics and introduced interesting things in the university to them. Although time passed fast, we had wonderful time together. Importantly, children and teenagers learned something from me, which is unforgettable in their life and is meaningful to me as well.

I had an experience of tutoring two junior school students for Maths of IGCSE when I was in UK. It lasted over two months. During that time I helped them make big progresses in their studies. I also gain friendship from their families which will last forever.

I had also tutored Mandarin for two kids in the UK after finishing IGCSE tutoring. It was easier for me to tutor language compared to Maths. I enjoyed the time when I spent with those two cute kids.

Tutoring Approach:

I would prepare for the lessons very well before tutoring.
Using an everyday language, make knowledge clear and easy to understand.
Develop student's interest step by step.
Providing good examples.
Give suggestions of study.
etc.

Personal Description:
My journey to teaching was a natural progression from my passion for languages. For me, language teaching is synonymous with cultural exchange: by fostering an interest in language, I stimulate inter cultural awareness and empathy for others.
I am fascinated by the way in which children develop, as well as the challenges that arise when working alongside children and families. I am a qualified teacher. The PGCE Post-Compulsory Education and Training course I studied allowed me to gain work experience in secondary school and college. I have gained an understanding of the variety of ways in which adults work with children, such as placing more emphasis innovative curricular and raising achievement. In addition, I have an excellent understanding of the range of teaching and learning strategies.
The course also helped me to improve schemes of work, lesson plans and related resources. I have a good understanding of English and Mathematics. I have completed G.C.S.E.'s and "A" levels in Maths and English in Spain.
I believe that I have an open personality with other people. Moreover, I am easy to get along with. This helps me as a teacher to quickly develop a trusting relationship with people.
I am a gentle, loving and caring person and this helps me to be aware of children's and families' needs and be more responsive and empathetic towards them of faith and faith based in education. I am also multi-lingual. Spanish is my first language; I am fluent in English and I speak French.

Teaching Experience:

Spanish Teacher

In my role I had to make sure that I delivered my teaching to specific objectives, to deliver the best learning to the pupils. I identified clear teaching objectives and then set challenging, diverse expectations delivering individual teaching to the different levels of ability in the class, whether this being SEN pupils or very able pupils.
I used a variety of teaching methods to match appropriate content and information, using a different strategies and planned interventions, as well as first hand experience. At the end of each class I reviewed the content with the class to make sure that they had full understanding and the objectives of the lessons were met. This gives me the ability to monitor the strengths and weaknesses of each pupil so I can plan future lessons.

Spanish teacher

My role was involved in planning and delivering schemes of work and lessons that meet the requirements of the KS3, 4 and 5 in addition I was a sixth form tutor and I helped the students who want to apply to university or find an apprenticeship . At the same time, I showed care and concern for students by talking to one to one every week with tutor group.
I also set homework of a meaningful and appropriate nature, having regard to students' abilities. I assessed and monitored students' progress, maintained records and reported on the development, progress and attainment of students in accordance with school and curriculum area policy. While I took reasonable steps to maintain good order and discipline among students monitor their attendance and safeguard their health and safety, both when they are authorised to be on school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.

Tutoring Approach:

Approaches for early years and primary

Learning a foreign language is a process that implies some mimicking, language awareness, practice on comprehension, expression and also creativity. Some studies claim that the way we store languages in our brains is similar to that of data storing in a computer, but, of course, much more human, organic and alive. Languages have different components that need to be acquired and "stored" so that we can start feeling confident and creative in using them.

On the other hand, languages are a set of sounds, words (vocabulary), rules (grammar), expressions and even non-verbal language that are acquired both consciously and unconsciously. Conscious learning is a process in which I am extremely interested because it feels as if we are actually helping our minds to store the data so they can be available for us to use. This can be called monitored learning or instruction and it is an important part of the teaching activity: basically providing the tools for the learner to feel comfortable, confident and free using them.

I love grammar and language diversity and I always try to convey that passion to my students, since all sounds, words and structures have an origin and a history, they are also alive and that is what makes languages such wonderful tools for communication among very different people.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Noa and I'm looking forward to joining you on your learning journey!

A little bit about me…. I'm a Music Graduate from the University of Birmingham who loves getting young people excited about music through teaching.

Subjects offered:
ABRSM Music Theory Grades 1-5

Qualifications:
BMus Music, First Class with Honours, University of Birmingham
Edexcel A Level Music - Grade A
BTEC Level 2 extended diploma in music (GCSE equivalent) - D*D*
Grade 7 ABRSM Music Theory - Merit

Teaching Experience:

My well-rounded experience enables me to teach towards the interest of students and the particular courses they are studying for. I have a wealth of experience working with young people through private instrumental teaching, work experience in schools, and community music projects. From this, I have developed a tried and tested method of teaching that is tailored around the student's needs and learning styles. I have been teaching online for multiple years now and understand how to engage children and young people in music through this medium. I am highly experienced in Music Theory, having taken grade 1-7 myself before completing an academic degree in the subject which has furthered my knowledge to a professional level.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that to be a good tutor, lessons should be built around the student's needs and learning styles. When I teach, I create lesson plans that have clear aims, but are also flexible to the student. I create extra activities as I teach to help the student understand difficult concepts deeper, or relate concepts to other topics that are more familiar to them. The main aim in my teaching is to always have fun, and provide a space where students can foster a passion for the subject!

Personal Description:
Im 20 years old.

Currently a student at uni, studying social work bsc.

I want to do this because it be a great experience, great on my CV and working with children is the key area to my career aspiration. As a bonus I get paid to study myself and for the child, that's a no brainer.

Teaching Experience:

Currently in university studying social work.
I have passed my maths, English and art at a grade C-B.
I earned triple distinction on my btec health and social level 2 and 3.

Therefore I do have a lot of knowledge on certain policies and laws, especially if your looking into health and social jobs. I can teach easy English, writing and reading.

I am special myself (autistic) so i understand how to work with special needs children.

I have worked with children at a youth club and at children's hospital based in Birmingham.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tend believe that teaching has to be serious and strict, I believe it should be fun, so that the child would want to study not to be forced to study.

I stand by that, as it says a lot about my character, I'm friendly, open minded and always, always put the child's needs at first because how can a child succeed whilst the implements/recognition of support are not in place? Therefore I do take different approaches to studying rather than a pen and a paper.
