Hui - Birmingham tutor
Information About Hui:
Personal Description:
I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker with a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature and current experience teaching Mandarin to primary school students in Birmingham.
I am passionate about the Chinese language and culture and enjoy helping learners develop their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing. I am patient, friendly and approachable, and I aim to make lessons engaging and enjoyable while adapting to each student's level and learning needs.
I have experience working with children and supporting international students in the UK, which has helped me develop strong communication and interpersonal skills. I am comfortable teaching both children and adults, from beginners to more advanced learners, and I can provide support with general Mandarin, Chinese reading and writing, conversation and GCSE preparation.
I am available for both online and face-to-face lessons in Birmingham and surrounding areas, particularly on weekdays during the daytime.
Teaching Experience:
I currently teach Mandarin Chinese at a Chinese school in Birmingham, working with primary-school-aged students. I follow the school's teaching materials and curriculum and support students with their Chinese language development, including speaking, listening, reading and writing.
My lessons are structured, patient and interactive, with a focus on helping students understand and use Mandarin confidently. I adapt my explanations and activities according to the student's age, level and learning needs, and encourage students to participate actively during lessons.
I also have ongoing experience as a homestay host, supporting international students from different cultural backgrounds as they settle into life in the UK. This has strengthened my communication skills and my ability to provide patient, practical and individual support.
In addition to my teaching experience, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature. I am comfortable supporting beginners, children and adult learners, and I am also interested in helping students prepare for GCSE Mandarin using the relevant syllabus, textbooks and exam materials.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is friendly, patient and student-centred. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, encouraged and confident enough to make mistakes and ask questions.
I first try to understand the student's current level, interests and learning goals, and then adapt the lesson accordingly. For younger learners, I like to make lessons interactive and engaging by using conversation, questions, pictures, stories, reading and simple activities rather than relying only on memorisation.
For learners who want to improve their reading and writing, I focus on building a strong foundation in characters, vocabulary and sentence structures, while also helping them understand how Chinese is used naturally in everyday communication.
For GCSE learners, I can work with the relevant syllabus, textbooks and exam materials, helping students develop their vocabulary, grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and become familiar with exam-style questions.
My aim is not only to help students improve their Chinese, but also to help them enjoy learning the language and develop confidence in using it independently.
