Personal Description:
Hello! I am a 47 year old mum of two, originally from Edinburgh but have lived and worked in York since 2010. I have been teaching English at secondary level since 2002 and tutored privately alongside this consistently throughout my career. I massively value the creativity and solutions focused approach that tutoring allows and particularly enjoy building relationships with students and parents through shared trust and celebration of achievements, however small. I am friendly, reliable and organised and committed to building the confidence and skills of my students.
Teaching Experience:
25 years teaching English Language and English Literature at secondary level, 11-18yrs including KS3, GCSE and ALevel.
Tutoring Approach:
The beauty of private tutoring is that you can create a tailored, bespoke programme of learning, with specific goals that are driven by student needs. Identifying established knowledge and skills, areas for improvement and tackling barriers are key; using baseline understanding to create individualised plans and regular, low stakes assessment to discern next steps has resulted in consistent success with previous tutees. As a private tutor I have the freedom to make our learning fun and as formal or informal as any learner may require. One size does not fit all; the joy of one to one learning is that it does not have to.
