Hannah - Woking tutor
Information About Hannah:
Personal Description:
Hi! I'm Hannah- I'm currently working as an Au Pair in France for a private family, communicating 100% in French with my children. While here, I have improved my french to a confident, conversational level, building upon the skills, grammar and vocab I learnt throughout GCSEs and A-levels. While here, I also earned C1 level French from the University of Tours.
Teaching Experience:
Currently, I am working with children below the ages of twelve, helping them with their homework and making sure they fully understand what is asked of them from their schools. In this way, I have learnt how best to approach learning with younger children, especially children still building foundational knowledge of Maths, Literature and other core subjects. This has taught me, above all, how to maintain clarity and interest, especially when I am communicating in my second language!
Besides this, in Secondary school I was part of a mentorship programme, in which I mentored a younger student in English (literature and language) aiming to pass on the knowledge I'd gained over the course of my later secondary education to a pupil just entering these crucial and stressful years.
In college, I worked alongside my Ancient History teacher, delivering powerpoint on Roman History to large groups of secondary school students.
Tutoring Approach:
I aim to employ the same methods I have found work best with the children currently in my care: start slowly, making sure the foundations are clear and well-understood, as this is where it is all-so easy to build the cycle of self-doubt and the feeling of 'stuckness' within students, before building on exam technique and how best to use the facts taught within the subject to achieve the most marks possible.
Especially with French, I aim to build confidence in the student's own grasp of the language, providing slow-paced speaking practise and grammar exercises to ensure the student feels content in their knowledge and ability to tackle the exams and the language as a whole.
I prefer an online tutoring format and provide students with a space in which they can ask any questions they have on grey areas of the course content, short recall activities to recall key facts, vocab or quotes and a slow, clear approach to deconstructing and understanding key concepts and exam structure/technique.
