Personal Description:

Hello!
I'm Charlie and I'm a qualified primary school teacher with a specialism in (and great love for) mathematics. I have experience teaching across KS1 and KS2, including preparing year 6 for SATS.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Primary PGCE with Maths Specialism in 2018 after completing placements in a mixed Year 1/2 class and a Year 6 class. I taught a mixed Year 4/5 for a year and then I spent a year teaching in PPA cover lessons which allowed me to experience teaching across Reception, KS1 and KS2.

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics lessons:

My maths lessons will centre around breaking down the subject matter and starting small, ensuring complete mastery and embedding the knowledge to give your child the understanding and tools to apply these fundamental skills to larger and more complex topics.

During my PGCE, my maths specialism classes highlighted the importance of moving between concrete aids (using counters), pictorial (drawing out bar models) and abstract concepts (mental maths). I will always start at the most basic level and progress according to your child's needs and understanding.

The first session will involve a baseline test which, along with conversations with yourself/ves and any input from the student's class teacher, will inform the structure for future lessons. Each lesson will be unique to your child's needs and I will make sure they feel some autonomy by checking in with them often, accepting feedback on teaching methods and topics to tailor the learning to them.


Music theory lessons:

Since learning the saxophone at primary school, I have loved learning about music, particularly music theory. I think my enjoyment for maths allows me to thrive at analysing chords and intervals in music.

Similar to my maths tuition, the first lesson will involve a baseline test to inform the structure of future lessons. Each lesson will be tailored to your child, ensuring any gaps in their knowledge get filled and their general understanding deepens.

• 2:1 Music BA (Hons) - University of Liverpool
• A - A Level Maths
