Sarah - Warrington tutor

Information About Sarah:

Personal Description:

I have lived and taught in Warrington for many years, and am a mum of 2 teenagers along with Bobby, our shitzhu.

Teaching Experience:

KS1 through to Further Education.
I have much experience in working alongside 'all shapes and sizes', including young people with neurodiversity (diagnosed or undiagnosed), dyslexia, anxiety, processing difficulties, poor working- memory, physical illness, and those who need a little 'tlc' helping hand to help them progress with confidence along their educational journey.
I have successfully and effectively taught primary-age children as class-teacher for 27 years- much of which was preparing Year 6 children for their SATs tests in English and maths. My next step was teaching Further Education: 16-19 year olds studying for Functional Skills of various levels as well as those preparing for GCSE English Language re-sit. Now I am again teaching English and maths to all age-groups in primary and secondary but this time as a 1:1 tutor for those who can't attend school or are home-educated, and this has involved me in teaching maths and English KS1, KS2, KS3 and preparing learners for GCSE English Language exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My joy is seeing learners experience the light-bulb moments and watching their confidence and self-belief grow.
Learning isn't linear and the reason for tuition is as individual as your child. People are unique and so will be the approach I take to your child's learning. For example, some learners at times prefer silence: 'show me then let me do it', whereas others want to be 'hand-held' at every moment. Some learners can handle abstract, whereas others at times need manipulatives (physical aides such as counters, shapes). Some learners will at times grasp a skill or concept very quickly, whereas at other times it may take much longer and possibly require a variety of methods.
Having much experience of teaching all age-groups I am quicky able to identify gaps in a student's learning; I see my role as supporting learners to track-back and plug the gaps and ensuring the the building blocks are safely in place, thus allowing the learner to move forward with confidence. Part of moving forwards is also ensuring that what has been learned stays fresh in the memory, and so revisiting is always part of my teaching.
We could look together at homework set by school, we could look together at an area of learning covered (recently or in the past) by your child's school which they feel they didn't really 'get', or we could do some pre-learning to give your child a head-start in preparation for learning yet to come at school.
All of this is done with a warm smile; and a kind, friendly and encouraging manner.
