Personal Description:

My name is David, I have studied traditional martial arts and combat sports for over 40 years. The goal of my journey was always to find skills that would assist me in real world self defence situations, mainly due to being brought up on a tough Liverpool council estate in the 70's and 80's.
I have studied Shotokan Karate to brown belt, then kickboxing, Thai boxing, boxing, self defence for 2 years.
I have been a Police officer for the past 22 years which included over 13 years on response dealing with front line Policing. I was a member of the Tactical firearms Unit as an Authorised Firearms Officer for over 5 years,

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a Police Personal and Public Safety Training Instructor for the past 3.5 years, this role includes teaching all Police officers and Police staff in communication and deescalation skills and includes Use of force legislation and techniques including empty handed skills, baton, cuffs, are of irritant spray and team tactics

I have found over the years that the legislation aspect regarding use of force is often overcooked by combat sports and traditional martial arts clubs as they don't particularly teach with their primary purpose being from a self defence point of view.

Lack of knowledge of what is an acceptable amount of reasonable force can hinder you action at times when action is required. Also this k owledge is essential for any legal action after the conflict has been dealt with.
