Callum - Southampton tutor

Information About Callum:

Personal Description:

I am a Chemistry Master's graduate from the University of Bath. I started tutoring shortly after graduating and I have kept it up ever since as I find it incredibly fulfilling to help students in achieving their academic potential. Outside of tutoring, I work in healthcare and aspire to be a doctor. Outside of work, I enjoy watching and playing sports as well as producing and mixing music.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 2 years of experience as a part-time private tutor, tutoring chemistry up to University level as well as maths, biology and physics up to GCSE. I have received strong feedback from my tutees and their parents for my systematic approach to tutoring where I focus on building subject knowledge and incorporating exam techniques to help improve grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I help students to better understand their subject content by listening to their own interpretation of it first and identifying their strengths and weaknesses. This helps me to understand how each student thinks and I then use this understanding to help the students improve on their weaker areas by formatting them in a way that will make it easier for them to understand. I have many readily available study resources that I have curated myself which I use to help the students I tutor.

Once I am satisfied with each student's understanding, I help them to work through practice exam questions and slowly ease them into working through each question methodically and independently. Once we have done this, I use my extensive experience of sitting exams to give them advice on how to best prepare and show the tried-and-tested exam techniques that I have learned to ensure they achieve the highest possible grades. Through my own practice as a private tutor, I have been able to identify what techniques work best for each kind of student and have helped my tutees to improve their test results by several grades, usually in a relatively short period, in the build-up to summer exams.

In addition to my approach to tutoring, I also believe in fostering a positive and supportive relationship with my tutees. I prioritize creating a comfortable and non-judgmental environment for them to learn in and encourage them to ask questions and voice any concerns they may have. I find that this approach helps to build their confidence and ultimately leads to better academic performance.
