Information About Kiran:

Personal Description:

A dedicated and passionate individual hoping to inspire everyone to embrace their passion in reading and writing.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in English Literature and Politics, as well as an MA in English Literature from the University of Warwick.

Currently, I am working towards a PhD in Literature, focusing primarily on women in writing and how literature has changed through the years. Through the years, I have written several pieces, with two academic publications, and three more upcoming through the year.

I possess work experience in different fields, developing a well-rounded knowledge base and skill set in a myriad of arenas. Having a creative decorum, shown through extra-curricular activities with music and drama, boosting my communication skills. In my spare time, I am writing my first academic book, with the hope in publishing this within the next year.

I am well organised, efficient and take a friendly approach to tutoring. I am reliable and hard-working, with the focus on my lessons being both enjoyable and informative.

Teaching Experience:

⬧ Voluntary work for 8 years with children between 4 and 14 to experience different people of different ages.
⬧ Involvement in usual activities within a school, allowing me to understand how this field works.
⬧ Shadowing qualified teachers in both public and private schools to ensure my tasks were completed in the appropriate manner.
⬧ Voluntary work with a children's choir (ages 4-9) to teach them the basics of singing using my own passion for this as an incentive.
⬧ Tutoring six GCSE English students, as well as my siblings, in order to help them become more proficient in English and achieve the highest grades they can.
⬧ A Level English examination marking, to understand what examiners want to see in A Level papers.
⬧ Currently working at Aston University as a research assistant (with both current students and international partnership students), creating lectures made accessible for all students, which in turn, has helped me understand how teaching English differs from school settings to university settings.
⬧ Shadowing an established English professor, and working with a second one during my university degrees, to gain knowledge to teach other individuals.
⬧ Generally, work experience has allowed me to understand the requirements and needs of other people to create a calm and pleasant surrounding.

Tutoring Approach:

There is a book or text out there for everyone. As an English tutor, I like to start there. In order to improve in a subject, one must become passionate about it. Whether you love Harry Potter or a Tik-Tok rom-com, I want to tailor the tutoring experience to every individual, to not only heighten their skills in an exam setting, but also, improve their understanding and analysis as a whole. I am a firm believer that if a student finds a subject enjoyable, then they are more successful in their learning.

Learning objectives are established in session one with every tutee, sparing no effort to create an engaging and interactive environment. I like to adjust to the tutee's learning levels and goals, in order to captivate their interest overall. Once this diagnostic assessment occurs, I produce a Learning Plan to best tutor the pupil. I maintain online contact with students at all times, so that they can ask me any questions about the work I have set (or seeking advice about work from school/university).
