Susie - Guiseley tutor
Information About Susie:
Personal Description:
I am Susie, a final-year student studying MSci Natural Sciences at the University of Leeds, with a focus on biology and the environment. I achieved 3 As in my A-levels (Maths, Biology and Geography) and I am bilingual in French.
Teaching Experience:
I have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check available on the update service.
I have experience working as an Activity Leader for Target International summer camp [2024 and 2025], and volunteering as a Young Leader for British Gymnastics [2017-2020].
I am a volunteer tutor for The Access Project [November 2024 - present] and have previously volunteered for Tutor The Nation [October 2024 - June 2025] and RefuNet [March 2025 - July 2025] for GCSE Biology, Maths and French.
After completing my degree, I plan to pursue a PGCE in Biology at Leeds Trinity University.
Tutoring Approach:
For my tutoring sessions, I aim to tailor lessons to the student's individual goals, which we will discuss beforehand. There will be an opportunity for student-tutor feedback at the end of every lesson. Lessons will begin with brief starter questions to review knowledge from previous sessions. Past exam questions (and some of my own) will be the primary method for testing knowledge and understanding, going through the curriculum and refining exam techniques by reviewing mark schemes. Recall questions at the end will consolidate and reinforce learning. If requested, short homework exercises can be set.
Beginning tutoring can be intimidating for students, so the first lesson will focus on building confidence and creating a comfortable space for learning without fear of mistakes before moving on to more complex material.
